how to change your oil and filter on a 2021-2022 kia sorento 2.5l. this process is the same for all Hyundai/kia 2.5l motor. be advised some naughty language has been said in the making of this video. enjoy!

Dude is pretty much spot-on. Mine is a 2023. Shroud has 4 10mm bolts and 2 push pins. Could not get one push pin back in and had to replace. Used a Purolator "One" PL11752 filter which comes with a replacement drain plug for the filter container (which i chose to use) and a replacement washer for the oil drain plug (which i chose NOT to use). Oil is Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy Full Synthetic Motor Oil 0W-30. Both Oil and filter were purchased from Amazon. Oh, one nice little trick is that once you get the bulk of the engine oil drained, you can unscrew the plug from the oil filter cap and drain into the same pan, if you position everything correctly. This wasn't the fastest, but it was the cleanest change I have ever done.

***Updated filter # is 26350 2S0001. The plug at the bottom of the filter that you can remove with an Allen key is larger than the 2S0000 and that's the only difference. I followed this video to do our 2022 initially and I like this guy no bs antics just straight to the point. It's an oil change not an engine overhaul.

Thanks for the detailed video. Just got the 2022 Sorento a week ago and was wondering how’s the oil change since I would do it on my Honda Accord easy. Sucks that it isn’t a spin on filter. But oh well. Looked simple enough.

Thanks for the vid. I’m looking at getting the wife a 2023 Sorento and was just wondering the oil change process. We used to have a 2009 Scion XD which had one of those canister filters. I wasn’t crazy about em but it is what it is. I bought replacements for it at Walmart. The whole skid plate thing looks like the biggest pain in the ass. Had one of those on my old 2007 Colorado. Never understood the point of a plastic skid plate on a truck I should’ve just left it off but always reinstalled it 😂

Speak for yourself. I’d rather do it in my own driveway on a Sunday then have to miss work on a weekday and sit in the waiting room with all the soccer moms but you do you. 😆

That tab on big O ring pointing up is critical. I had a recall on my daughters Kia so i asked them to change oil while it was there because i was busy. They put that o-ring in upside down with that tab pointing down. It took awhile for me to find because the vehicle was leaking oil from the recall part so i wasn’t sure if they hadn’t fixed it or what. Eventually i found it and the dealer had put it in wrong. Guys it’s so cheap to buy the right stuff with this with the new washers -even with the one on the main drain plug. You’ll only get so many times and it will leak. He’s done it and is kind of being lazy -I’ve been lazy too but there’s a cheap whole kit with all new washers and filter and drain plug for in filter cap. If your kid drives it do it right. His takes more oil than mine which is weird. I think this is one of the easiest vehicles to change oil on. I’ve owned 50 cars and this is in top 3 easiest. I had one where you changed it up top. Anyway i have 3 different hellcat vehicles right now with the Kia and the spin off filters are an SOB to get too and loosen and tighten -no filter tool fits in there right. So this little cap is a joke and easy and you can do quick oil change every 3000 without taking filter out-just undo drain hike in filter cover and drain. Then at 6000 i change filter and oil.

Lake Speed Jr., a lubrication specialist, on his channel the motor oil geek recommends changing the factory oil as soon as possible and no later than 500 miles. The oil weight his daughters a Toyota uses isn’t even available in the USA yet so he had to go a step heavier.

The Sorrento has has a canister style filter at least since 2012. It used to be on top. Why did the move it below?

They want you to have to go back to the dealer so they can charge you $ 90.00 for an oil change which could cost you oil ...$ 30.00 on sale at Canadian Tire and a filter @ $ 15.00 dollars if you do it yourself !!!

Not all. I have a 2016 Sorento with the 2.0 turbo that uses a can filter that screws on from underneath.

Usually for coolant and transmission fluids I will go to the dealer and stick with OEM, but I think Prestone pink asian coolant will be ok.

Definitely check with the dealership parts man, and get the one he specs for your make and model KIA. I was just there and currently there’s 3 different color coolants according to the counter man. There’s the green that was for my 2016 2.0 turbo, a pink like in this video (maybe a hybrid?), and I think one other color but I forget. Mine came pre-diluted for around $13 a gallon.

Looks like a petty simple job but for me where would I dispose the oil? For not much more I can get my fluids topped off, my tires rotated and all oem everything for $50 more? I'm not against doing it yourself but for me I go to the dealer.

You can dispose the oil at any autoparts store.

I have a 2017 Sorento that I took to the dealership for a free oil change that came with the vehicle purchase. It started leaking oil after about two weeks and I took back to have it looked at. I was told that the mechanic put the seal on the wrong side so based on this video I guess it was upside down. A few days after the oil change I had to take it back because the splash protector wasn’t properly secured and fell down while I was driving on the highway.😞

Always been a habit of changing the oil on a new engine between 500-1500 miles. When the motor breaks in a lot of metal shavings come out, obviously the filter catches most of that. Not sure if it really makes a difference but just something I do.

to clear out any metal shavings - ive done the same on a new car than do it every 6mon 4k miles or so with syntrghetic

The metal gasket goes on the drain plug. On the OEM Kia filters they include it to replace everytime. Usually if it still looks good I will reuse it for a few oil changes. Always change the o ring on the filter housing every oil change.

@@3wheelan I'm 56 years old and have always done my on oil changes and I have never been provided a drain plug washer when I bought a filter.
