Thanks for the review. I've been on a 2022 base model for 1200 miles now and spent some money on accessaries that I'm reluctant to mount. I bought them because of other reviews. I wish I'd watched this review before spending that money! One thing that has worked out great is a windshield riser from 3D parts. The wind now goes right over my head and the general wind protection is really great. One drawback is that to look down at the road immediately in front of me I have to look through the windscreen.

Got this shared to Black Hills Off-Roaders(love the Black Hills) and Ride Baja which friends of mine from the Black Hills group highly recommend. Good video, everything is solid on the bike after my measly 100milles. reviewers complain and install new junk because they care more about being KZbin famous than the truth. Having said that, I’m replacing the pegs with same thing I had on my KLX250, love them.

Honestly, one of the best general review. I owned a Gen 2 and DR and preferred the DR. Now that the Gen 3 is fuel injected it got my attention. Long story short, I ended up getting a African Twin Adventure Sport for my style of riding. I still believe the Gen 3 is the best bang for buck. Must mods are wants and not needs. For me, engine and plastic protection is a need. Mirror and DooHicky is a want. Battery tender lead and phone mount for me is a need. For others maybe a want.

Thank you so much for the kind words. If you look back at some of my other videos, I too had the Africa Twin, it is a great bike as well. I loved mine and I love this bike I have now just as much just in a different light if that makes sense. I so agree on the needs and wants, we are all a little different and I agree my list of which is a need versus a want is very similar to yours as well. Well said my friend. I was talking to a young man the other day, and he and I had used the same word about marriage, I explained to him our expectations if often a precursor to disappointments. That applies here as well. Thanks again, I love this little bike and it will do all I need it to do. I just finished a 2500 mile multi day moto camping trip and this bike paired with the garmin gps did not disappoint, it was a blast and I got to color in some more states that I have riden in now as well. I completely Understand and I hope you love your new bike as much as I do. Yes sir, I will tell you this, I had the gen 2 and I did the doohickey, it didnt need it. It had roughly 10,000 miles on it and had some spring left, and worked. By the time you tear into you might as well change it, so that is what I did. The actual doo-hickey is fine, Kawasaki fixed that many years ago, The spring could potentially be an issue, like I mentioned, the older spring on the 08 KLR i had, still had plenty of spring life left. I will make a video on your question soon, but know this, I am not planning on doing either any time soon. Maybe a couple to a few years down the road I will look back into it, But i dont see it being a big deal in my mind. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed weekend. Sir, very good review. You are completely right, nothing wrong with this bike. I just bought my 2022, and like you, did my research on it, and bought it because I like it, and it does the job I'm needing it to do. There are always going to be people who nit pick a bike to death, and can find nothing right about it. Always negative. I ride a Harley too, and the sport bike riders never cease to compare a Harley cruiser to their sport bikes and it always falls short in their minds. I think Kawasaki did a good job on this bike, and I've had several Kawasakis, and never had a bad one...ever. Appreciate your honest review!

Hi Dale … Regrets if you covered this and I missed it … Your thoughts on changing the front sprocket to incrementally reducing RPMs on the highway ? … I really appreciate your pragmatic approach to helping me judge this bike
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport Жыл бұрын
James, that is an excellent question, I have put some thought into it especially after making a couple of long runs. My thoughts are this, I think you will give up something in return and for me, what I would give up is too much to justify the added benefit up on the high end. I enjoy the back roads more often than the long road trips if that makes sense. If it helps at all, I will be replacing the sprockets front and rear as well as the chain in the next week or so on mine, I am going back stock sizes on purpose. Again, if a guy was commuting a long way every day and or not doing the backroads as much as I like, then it could potentially be better for the high end speeds. For me, I will stay with stock. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend. Dale

Yes absolutely thanks for the review, I have finally ordered a new Klr adventure It has taken me over a year to order this bike due to all the misinformation out there I come from sports bike background and have had many smaller displacement duel sport bikes. The Klr had such an allure to it ,I can totally understand why it has an almost cult like following to it , for me it had just got a feel and look about it like nothing else, I love the look of the klr more than anything else I have see and believe me I have done my research, infact I don't think I have ever studied a bike so much infact I have never researched a bike so much as I have done with the klr It just seems to be able to do almost anything I'm very excited and counting down the days her in a Australia it will be spring soon Thanks again

Since you have a background in sport bikes, (I do as well). You will adjust to this bike much better. 1, you know it will not be a dual sport, however you can run it up and down gravel roads and still pack it like a mule to have all the camping and moto camping gear with you. I think so many folks buy this bike, think its going to run like a Sport bike on the streets and a KTM in the dirt, it is not and will not. It will however, take you from one side of your country to another. I will be posting a 6000 mile review here soon, I just got back from another week long solo moto camping (most of the time solo) (I met up with two other riders up north) this trip was again over 2700 miles round trip and to be honest, this girl just keeps on doing what she was designed to do. I made a long ride yesterday, it was 750 miles to get home and I did it in 13 hours, start to finish, but realistically 12 hours riding. I took a lunch break and dinner breaks and stopped about every 100 miles or so for water breaks etc, et the bike cool off etc. Thanks for sharing your new purchase with us and I hope you have a blessed week. Be sure to keep us posted on your bike and how it is going. I am sure you will be as pleased with yours as I am in with mine. If you do FaceBook, join our group, Gen 3 Tribe on FB, if you don't do FB, I get it some folks dont, its just another place to share ideas and potentially meet up with other riders in your area as well. Again, thanks and have a blessed week. Dale

If you asking me from someone who has owned one, as well as took many moto camping trips and back road trips as I could with my DRZ, i will say this. This is a more comfortable moto camping bike. It is easier to do the longer routes with out the need of a Rott-Pack or extra fuel cell. Both bike are in the end very similar, the DRZ is just so much better on the single tracks and rougher terrain. This is a great bike as well, just in a different light if you will. To me that makes it worth it even if not in the mud. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend. Dale.

Well done, at this time I own a 21 BMW 310 gs I like the bike but on the freeway I get blown around a lot, am thinking it's too light it only weighs 425 pounds, I'm getting 85 mpg mostly back roads.

Thank you for the kind words my friend. It could be too light, I am not certain, I know my DRZ was on the light side, at that time, I lived in Oklahoma and it was not easy to ride with a side wind, so I understand more than you may know, I think the way the fairing on this bike is made as well as the extra weight from packing the saddle bags up etc, truly helps. i wish I was getting 85 MPG on the fuel, but 50 is not too shabby for an actually older designed motorcycle. Thanks again for sharing your experience with us and I hope you have a blessed week my friend. Dale

I have the cheap ones made my IMS I think is who they are or maybe the tusk ones, they were cheap, I left the factory rubber mounts in. I did buy the tusk kit to make it a solid connect, but I didn't use them, they work just fine for me, SO in my mind, they are better than stock being a hair larger and works out just fine. Vibration, I dont think there is a dimes worth of difference, the difference in my mind, is, traction whether my feet are muddy or wet and that was why Changed them. vibration, man I dont think so, some may argue there is a tiny bit more, I dont think my boots are that sensitive? I am enjoying the bike even more, because I am learning this area of the state each time I go out and ride. I knew my way around Oklahoma due to growing up there, so this has been a huge learning curve for me not knowing where anything is unless I stumble upon it. Good dirt bike? Getting my endorsement in a few weeks. Only ridden a kx250F previously. Want something as a commuter and a backroads bike. Nothing crazy. Feels like it’ll be a good match. What’s the maintenance like compared to a dirtbike? I’m sure it’s less crazy since your not riding it crazy hard, but then again it’s a lot of higher speed riding and many miles…
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport Жыл бұрын
Comparing this to a true lightweight dirt bike, it will feel heavy, really heavy. For back roads, commuting and general riding, this bike it the perfect weight, you won't get blown around while commuting like a light weight dirt bike would,. It has all the comforts of an adventure bike so the travel will be smooth and fun. It won't be fast and you won't win drag races, but it will get you there and get you there safely. Maintenance is incredible for a bike, I change the oil like manual says (around 3000 miles) and I keep up with the chain maintenance. I will be doing some more videos on both subjects soon. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope the answers help you in your decision. Its a great bike, it is perfect for me, but I know I have had a lot of bikes and I too have changed over the years as well. This is a nice laid back way to explore and that I really love. Since it dont cost $12000-25000 if you do fall over, on some rougher back roads, who cares, pick it back up and keep on going. It will be just fine with out the worry of dumping a really expensive adventure bike. (I know this personally ) Plus if you are like me, you will find yourself trying more difficult stuff, simply because it won't matter if you fall over it that makes sense. So it will go further in my book. Have a blessed week Dale

Thank you so very much for not only the kind word as well as subbing our channel. Weight wise. I’m 200ish with riding gear heavier. The bike has preload for the rear which is easy to adjust. Depending on your riding. If you using it like me and going on adventure or day trips on east back roads it will more than likely carry you fine. My buddies I am riding to Michigan (the current series) those two guys are probably really closer to your weight and are running the bike just fine with stock suspension. If you decided to do BDR or rougher back roads loaded with camping gear I would say you would be happier with a spring upgrade. You don’t need new full shock systems, spring rate changes are typically much cheaper than full suspension upgrades. I hope this helps and I will try to do a video on this question as well. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed weekend. Dale.

The Newer KTM 790-890 are probably the only motorcycles that do not have the top heavy feel due to the way the tank is designed up front. With that said, the KLR in my mind does not feel as heavy as it actually is. It is easy to roll around etc. My AT I had felt much top heavier than this bike. When packing, try to put heavy gear as low as you can in the saddle bags as you can and close to the bike as you can. If that makes sense. I have done a lot of moto camping over the years and the biggest trip is to try not to take too much stuff. Make several trips, figure out what you need and what you don't need and go from there on packing for the next trip. I still probably pack more than I should, but in my mind, it is still way less than I used to pack. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. I do have a video coming out soon, that goes into more details on what I am packing for a trip and what I am not packing. Some of it is KLR 650 specific and most of it is just general Camping Gear. Thanks again and have a blessed week Dale

If you follow along on my channel, The video that posted today, show a few clips and or photos of of of the ladies on my bike with me. I typically load my bike for color moto camping trips, so typically I dont have a lady on the back, but with the new and improved adjustable rear shock it makes this much more possible than the suspension in year past, you can go in and adjust that rear shock, I will go more in-depth for the riders review on this topic in my upcoming video. @@rameylewis7730 Yes sir, i understand completely, I will say this, when I was a kid, I won a turkey shoot with a daisey BB gun, your comment reminded me of it, so in short what I am saying, if a guy is on a budget, he can make the stock tires work. I didnt have a great BB gun, I learned how to make the BB gun I had, and make it work for me. So many folks who own a KLR are on a budget and if you want to make memories, the stock bike can do it, Are there better tires for offroad, Heavens yes, But can you still muddle through and make a video, make a memory, with the stock heavens yes.
