I'm 6' 7, 265 pounds. I have 2" risers and 1" lowering pegs wind shield at maximum factory height. This is the best mod ever on a '22. Made it a whole new bike.

Good job explaining this Tim. Totally agree. The bike is a keeper now. I always thought the fuel mapping was way off. The bike is so smooth now. I feel totally relaxed riding with this mod. I will never go back to stock setup.

I ordered the 3DCycle plugin. Should be here Monday. It was pretty cheap, so if I hate the mod, I won't be sad to take it out.

Great video. I need to wait now till decent time so I don’t disturb neighbours, however keen to get in workshop and try this this morning.

I was curious so I did the mod about a week ago. For me, and my style of mostly road, urban commuting, it made the bike so much smoother to ride. The abrupt on/off throttling was gone, less engine braking at higher rpm but just better for city stop and go traffic. I used a 15amp mini fuse, instead of trimming the prongs I used someone else's recommendation of just twisting them 90 degrees. Fit and worked like a charm.

After watching video this morning performed mod on my 22 KLR. Benefits were as stated in the video. Thanks again and I do recommend. Did a temp job and ordered the plug and play from 3D cycle.

Brilliant mod- completely smoothed the erratic deceleration and took the bump off acceleration. I’m not reversing this one.

Thank you so much. The abrupt engine cut was the only complaint I had with the entire bike.

I as well. When I was standing and backing off the throttle fast in low gears, felt like I was going to go over the bars. LOL

Thinking about making this a switch for jake-braking coming off the highway... will loosely cobble something together and see if its worth building out.

Thanks for the video. I took my 2023 KLR out for a ride yesterday for the first time, and I found that the snatchy / abrupt throttle is absolutely ridiculous. I am doing this mod asap! I have owned and test ridden a lot of EFI motorcycles, but the KLR is the worst for snatchiness that I have ever experienced. I absolutely love the bike otherwise.

@@2talltimadventures You are definitely correct. I did the mod Wednesday and I took my KLR out for a ride yesterday, and what a difference. I just hope that the mod doesn't have any long-term effects on the ECU. I came across a couple of KLR forum entries about that.

Just out of curiosity, has this mod still been working problem free on the 2023 ? No ECU issues ?
@SigmaSheepdog
@SigmaSheepdog 2 ай бұрын
@Fulltimedad90 I have had the bike for about 13 months now, and with a little over 4000 miles, I have not had any problems with the mod. I am thinking about making it switchable because there are times that some engine braking is needed. Doing this mod does eliminate some engine braking.

I love the mod. I almost sold the bike after owning it one week. I don't understand why Kawasaki installed the annoying engine braking clutch switch. Maybe it had something to do with meeting federal fuel consumption regulations. Whatever it was, it does not make sense for safe riding. I almost went flying over the handlebars several times while throttling down.

Great Channel & Videos, very helpful. I just bought a Gen 3 KLR. would Like to get your opinion on why you chose the T-rex Bars over the Tusk Bars? and also why the T-rex center stand over the Happy Trail Center stand? i'm lookin at purchasing the Tusk bars and happy Trail center stand. curious if there is any reasons not to go with those two choices? thanks
@2talltimadventures
@2talltimadventures Жыл бұрын
So on the T-Rex bars I just thought they offered more protection and more cross bracing than anything else on the market. I feel they are the most durable most well designed and probably the sturdiest ones there are. On the Happy trails center stand I will not give that company any more of my money. I think they have deceiving business practices they hold your money hostage while your stuff is on back order for months and months. I regret giving them the money that I already have. I think they make fine products I just don't like their business practices. And that Casey Ralls that runs the company now or is the face of the company is a snake in the grass. I was disappointed in the service I received when I ordered my products and when I disclose my dissatisfaction with my service they simply blocked me from their social media outlets.

@@2talltimadventures thanks Tim, I appreciate the reply. Those are all understandable reasons. Good to know. I live in Idaho and just found out yesterday happy trails is based in Boise. So proximity wise it would be advantageous for me. But not if I’m going to wait on it for months and receive terrible support. Love your channel and videos. 👍👍 thanks again.

@@2talltimadventuresahhh, I’m not the only one. They did this shit without any warning for their extended shift lever. I ordered it and once I paid, it suddenly wasn’t available for a rough estimate of 3 months…. And I found a thread on some site where the exact same thing for the same lever happened to someone else with the exact timelines a year ago. So it very much in my book was the company being okay with not warning customers that they wouldn’t get their part for months. If it’s been happening for years and people are complaining, most companies would notify the customers on the product page or something… the response I got when I complained was a very un-concerned one from Happy Trails… they didn’t even acknowledge my complaint. Just refunded me.

The point would be when it runs out of ass when merging into traffic it shuts down until you shift or back off. My gen 2 did not do this. I guess when they deleted the tach you get a rev limiter.

I am really confused.... That made such a huge difference. I hated the fact that my KLR felt like it had a Jake brake on it, now that I bypassed it, it is like a new bike, so much smoother. I guess it would be kind of interesting to rig it up to like the pass light momentary switch for those times you do feel like having a jake bake on your KLR HAHAHAHA. Has anyone figured out what Kawa was trying to do with this? I can't think of any reason you would want that much engine braking on a KLR, when I first got the bike I thought something was wrong with it. Ohh what I wanted to say, Is there any reason I would want to put like a rubber plug inside there to prevent corrosion? is there any scenario in which I would ever want to plug it back in?
@2talltimadventures
@2talltimadventures 4 ай бұрын
It's a fuel cut to reduce fuel consumption. With it bypassed you eliminate that fuel cut. So fuel efficiency it the main reason they do it.
@nikhayes3396
@nikhayes3396 4 ай бұрын
@@2talltimadventures huh, I guess that does make sense. I think it was a bit dangerous because on a downshift the rear tire would slide a lot easier. almost like when you are trying to pop start a bike. I guess if you match rpms instead of dump the clutch it’s probably not the same but I went from a 2 stroke to that thing and it felt really wacky.
