Nice work and thanks for sharing! As a side note for anyone interested in being able to return to stock in the future I recommend pushing the two pins out of the male connector and sliding the pointed end of the exposed wires into one another. Then heat shrink to keep the moisture out. Place the male connector (empty) back into the female sidestand connector and remove the switch from the mount down at the sidestand. Put in a place you can find for future re-installation.

A cable on the side stand to operate a remote switch - not surprised you removed it!

All about reliability on the trail. I also only ride vintage bikes without side stand switches so I'm well trained to put the thing up lol

@@BrickHouseBuilds , the original cable and switch just added another point of failure. A bike I have has a warning light for the stand being down. A friend had a go who was used to only riding bike which had a side stand cutout. They looked worried, and when I stopped to ask they said they thought there was something wrong with the bike as on a right hand bend there was a grinding noise!

Thanks for your Service. What to do when there are 3 wires? My kickstand switch has red, yellow, and black wires.
@BrickHouseBuilds6 ай бұрын
You would review your wiring diagram to determine how to disable it
@randallsmerna3842 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with just cutting it and soldering them together. However, I would strongly suggest that you cut the wire more in the middle so that should you ever want to reinstall that switch you'll have enough wire on both sides to make that connection.

But I won't ever put the switch back on. I took it off for a reason.

'06? looks exactly like mine. :D. Will follow this on my bike, like to get rid of that as well. Thinking of fabricating a metal cover in place of that cheap plastic one. What brand is your table lift? Speaking of plastic, I replaced the choke cable system with an all-metal plunger mounted directly to the carb. The old plastic one always rested on my gas tank when the bike was at kickstand rest.

I like the idea of it being an eliminated potential failure point. My table is a black widdow brand

I am confused by the setup on my '88 KLR, which i got used about a year ago. There is no jumper attached to the white 4-recepticle plug. It is just zip tied against the frame. Yet, the bike starts and stays running with no issue....Until, after riding in heavy rain, I ended up having to spray wd40 into the white connector to get the engine to turn over and start. Any thoughts on the 'no jumper' thing? Thank you for the video!
@BrickHouseBuilds Жыл бұрын
That I don't know. Being an 88 it probably has a slight variation in the wiring but only your diagram could tell you. A bit of time with a multimeter would give you the answer though

Did you delete all the vacuum tubing and charcoal canister stuff? My 03 has a three nippled little canister that uses the same mounting. Thought about just keeping the mounting off and just zip-tying the canister onto the frame of the bike but I'd like to know if you can all just be deleted I'm kind of tired of that crap.
@BrickHouseBuilds2 жыл бұрын
The charcoal canister is a California specific model trait. Mine does not have that

So basically just remove all the components from the kickstand all the way to the plug and then loop the wires and plug it back in? That easy?
@BrickHouseBuilds2 жыл бұрын
Pretty much yea. I just did more explaining so people would understand how the system functions and where it may cause an issue
@rolliecarso2 жыл бұрын
@@BrickHouseBuilds Does it matter if when you install this mod that you have the kickstand up or down? As in, will the switch for some reason "remember" which position the kickstand was in when you pulled the plug and then plugged it back in ? Or does the wire loop just bypass that all together and it doesn't matter?
@BrickHouseBuilds2 жыл бұрын
@@rolliecarso Id watch the part where I test it again to understand what the switch does and what the wire does. Pretty simple system

My motorcycle does something similar but when I get in first gear it automatically dies but when I have it up on the back stands and put it in gear it rolls not a problem but when I put the kickstand back down and automatically turns off and jumps

@@BrickHouseBuilds but when I I put my hand on the clutch and hold in and put it in first year I should be able to roll the back tire. It feels as if the back tire does not want to budge. But when it's up on the lift in freeplay first- gear it rolls without a problem. I rebuilt this bike but this is the last thing I have to figure out why it's doing this I will replace the kickstand switch

@@jaredstottler1813 I'm a bit confused as you seem to be describing two things here. One is the confirmation that you have a functioning kickstand switch as you say you lower the stand and it dies. OK. Next you say if its on the ground and you go to first it dies but free spins in neutral. To me that scenario sounds like stuck clutch plates. What type of bike is this?
@jaredstottler18133 жыл бұрын
@@BrickHouseBuilds the motorcycle does not die when I put the kickstand up or down when I put it in gear it dies.could it be Clutch safety switch? The back tire wooden freeroll lifted up on the back kickstand so the bike is up off the ground period but on the ground in neutral it turns on in first gear when I change it at automatically jerks and dies
