This is absolutely the best mod. Completely takes the annoying surging and bumping out of throttle response.

I've done the mod on my bike and I feel the bike is much smoother. It had kind of a lean burn run-on and jerk felt mostly when canyon riding and slowing down and then hitting the throttle. It also has taken away a lot of the compression braking which isn't a bad thing but either way that is easy to adapt to. Over all for me the mod makes the bike run better and is definitely more enjoyable to ride.

There will be folks that think the stock bike has perfect fueling. Then there’s a whole lot more who know all about the abrupt On/Off Throttle and extreme engine braking. Both of which are caused by Closed Throttle Fuel Cut. Modern bikes should not behave like that. It makes riding the bike more difficult. One has to compensate for this behavior like you did by modulating the clutch at lower speed. Or if you don’t completely close the throttle to slow down then you’re fine. The Clutch Switch Bypass disables Closed Throttle Fuel Cut. Which in turn makes the fueling much smoother. There’s no need to modulate the clutch at slower speeds. It also eliminates the extreme engine braking. For those who don’t notice nor care or are so afraid of starting the bike in gear, don’t do this mod. For others, we love this mod.

I did the mod on my 22' Adventure and definitely made a difference. Smoother engine braking for sure. Much smoother with the mod and made it smooth out like my old CBR 954 felt when fully letting off the throttle. For those questioning the "tinkering" that's what most cyclists do with any bike they own. Buy a cheap plug and play or make one and it literally takes less than 30 seconds for you to be able to decide for yourself. As for starting the bike, imo you should never crank one without the clutch in anyways.

The reason I'm considering doing this "mod" is because when I'm decelerating from the interstate and completely release the throttle then try to give it just a little throttle to get me to the stop sign or lights it gets all herkey-jerkey on me. When I'm riding really aggressive I don't notice this at all...but 90% of the time I ride like an old man and in town or coming off the interstate when I need just I teeny-tiny bit of fuel, then the bike wants to go all out on me.

You make riding with stock performance look easy, like most of your videos. Just did mine today. So much better for me. Way smoother on decel, no more decel pop with my after market pipe and can start my bike in gear. Any bike I’ve had where I can’t start in gear I’ve ditched this safety feature which is dangerous in my view if your bike stalls for whatever reason in traffic and you gotta find neutral to start it back up. This mod was better for on road application than offroad. Offroad benefit would be starting in gear on the trail if you stalled and get going faster. I ride my KTM 500 more than my KLR so maybe I’m just used to riding faster than fiddling with the sluggish KLR.

@@SwankyCatProductions yeah instead of dicking around to find neutral just drop it in first and start it up with the clutch engaged. If you stall your bike on some crazy trail and you’re all off balance it’s gonna suck trying to find neutral to start it back up.

I put 1100 miles on my '23 KLR before I implemented this mod so that I would have a real sense of whether it did anything for me or not - and I've been riding for 30+ years for those who want to claim 'tinkeritis' or 'novice'. I saw noticeable improvement in performance in terms of the bike not overreacting to a closed throttle, the herky-jerky BS that is induced by the bike thinking it knows better than me. I also think it shifts more smoothly after the mod, which I don't believe Ben noted one way or the other. You do you, boo - it cost you nothing to try it and you can easily go back to stock if you don't think there's any change or you don't like the change. Ride safe!

I did the same thing on mine and tested it out as well and to be honest I didn't feel much different, and if you pull the clutch in all the way with it plugged in and you just barley let the clutch out the engine RPM comes up slightly and I personally like that especially for slow moving on a trail or on the street, you can just let the clutch out slowly and not even touch the throttle and it won't die, it will just creep along and wait for you to get on the throttle, that is what the clutch limiter is for, it's so if you have to maneuver the bike slowly you don't even have to touch the throttle just let the clutch out slowly and you will hear the RPM's come up slightly as you release the clutch slowly the bike will start to creep forward then you can just release the clutch and it won't die on you. Try doing that with it disconnected and you will kill it almost every time.

I did this mod because I have the Warp9 levers and they wouldn't allow the switch to disengage properly. After doing this, its much easier for me to start the bike on trails since I have short legs and a lifted bike so now I don't have to keep swapping legs to put it back in neutral. I definitely noticed the smoother throttle, especially at slower speeds where you don't want a jerky throttle.

I disabled the kickstand and clutch switch on my 2019 ktm 690 enduro r. This was done because i figured i would break the switches and be stranded. The side effect of disabling the clutch switch is that that also disabled the quickshifter. I like that because i preload the shifter before shifting and the quickshifter would cause a premsture shift. I have experienced no negative effects from disabling the switches.

I’ll be running the mod until someone can fix the fuel mapping through tuning, I have been riding this through the abrupt fuel cut by adjusting my throttle cables and modulating the throttle more smoothly. But drivability wise I prefer the mod off road due to being bounced around, and on highway. In town I like the hard engine braking. Once my warranty is up I will install a switch to toggle between the 2 positions though. There is also a very fine range with the tps on these bikes and some are out of speed causing the fuel cut to come in earlier and harsher. My bike had the throttle body replaced due to this, and my dealer tech worked closely with Kawasaki on this issue.

I like to shake the feeling back into my throttle hand during my commute, its an hour one way to work on the interstate. The only thing i hate about this bike is if you even let go of the throttle for a second it drops you 10mph with engine braking. So my hand is stuck holding 3/4 throttle with little to no wiggle room for relaxing. I get to work and my hand is dead. I tried clutch in coasting for a hand shake and this thing is so heavy it just bogs right down (not as fast as engine brake). I didn’t want to mod it but im gonna try.

Never drove a bike that knows when the clutch is pulled. I have, perhaps a few times, tried to start my xj1100 standing next to it and it lurched itself forward off the kick stand and it fell on me. Would have been nice to have there.

I tried the mod and really missed the good engine braking. I don’t find the stock fuel mapping to be choppy at all.

I actually tried it again recently since the engine breaking mixed with my pipe was getting annoying. Now I like that aspect, but the lowered RPMs when crawling through the woods has me feeling like I need to ride the clutch to keep the motor turning lol.

The plus side is that it richens the fueling throughout the rpm range. So, when you remove your snorkel and add exhaust leaning out the bike, you richen it back up with the bypass

I think this would've been a 3D printed mount that I needed to heavily modify to make work. I'm running the 3D cycle parts windshield risers with the built in mount and a buzz kill now. Here's the video on it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gabKc4GYaJKDecU

Seems like viral Facebook silliness to me. Started by someone that didn’t learn proper clutch and throttle control and spread to people easily convinced to look for this “issue”.

For people that have ridden their whole life like everyday as a child the bike becomes an extension of the body. Anything that artificially interferes with that connection can be annoying. As the creator of this video says u will naturally learn to live with it as i did almost immediately but that natural connection with the bike should be the default not the other way around.

I've did this mod when I first got my gen 3. On a few occasions, while off the throttle at low speeds and once just as I was about to take off from a stop light, the bike dies. It seems like the idle for a split second goes to low and it stalls, I simply hit the button and she fires right back up and I'm off. I may rehook the clutch switch to see if that may be causing the slight issue and also to verify that It's a viable mod. Keep rockin the KLR!

Thanks for the video. I tried the bypass and found no significant deficit, difference or benefit with the mod that effective clutch and throttle control and coordination didn't provide for a smooth comfortable ride.

You have to decide if you're a airhead or not. So Here's something to think about. If you BROKE YOUR CLUTCH CABLE, you cant start the bike. because of the cutout switch. In cars they put clutch cutouts on the pedal for the same dimwits who start their in gear. But if you trash the clutch with the cutout bypassed you can start the car and get home in first gear. The solution is to put an on off switch so if the clutch cable breaks to can flip a switch and get the bike started in gear and get home. You only need the clutch to get moving. can shift without it between gears . And will the bike push start in first gear. or is that messed up too. computers in cars and bikes were never a good thing. its all the EPA trying to elimate simple gas vehicles and carburators . that wont stop running .
@SwankyCatProductions
@SwankyCatProductions 2 жыл бұрын
Yeeeeaah, you would still be able to start the bike if the clutch cable snapped. You'd have to pull the non functioning lever in, but it would still go just like it did when I pulled out of the garage.

I am a firm believer to NOT modify the safety switches on the KLR650 or my Versys X300. All the modifications and accessories added my X300 (see my channel) I've not hacked any of the bike's wiring. No hacking of any part of the of the bike. But that is just me. I've seen some horror stories on the X300 owners, mostly in far away countries, that just look like a bad idea.

The KLR is the king of "if it's not broke, don't fix it" they continued that with the 3rd generation. There's a reason to have that clutch switch. You pull that switch, now you're giving the potential of debris and crap getting where it's not suppose to be. I think most of the people getting work up over this, are novice

In the industry we call this type of modification tinkeritis. Tinkeritis is simply defined as a rider that assumes they are smarter than the OEM engineers, or a rider that invents solutions to problems that don’t exist, and cannot leave anything alone. Most timkeritis sufferers then post the rubbish in an attempt to validate their wasted time. Tinkeritis sufferers also try to make others go along with them. They often use terms like, they say, they all have this issue and on the forums everybody has this issue….. The best one though is …The manufacturer knows about the issue and they are covering it up….As a professional tech I’ve seen and heard it all, and it gets worse daily. I have the same bike and it is great, I’m not a new rider either. Like many things in life that are new one must learn to use/adapt to the platform. Thank you for the content and the laughter.

Haha yeah it seemed like people were really getting into a frenzy about this online. Then one guy said he didn't see the big deal and he got ripped on for not knowing how to ride a motorcycle which seemed extremely backwards to me since he was saying he didn't needed to modify his bike to ride it... Haha.
