I really liked seeing Lee hand in there so well. He even kept getting better with each match. So, It was a little heartbreaking to see it go down hill because he got tired after winning 4 or 5 matches in a row. After all, there's warm up shots, etc beforehand, and Lee's older too. Young or old though, maybe there should be a 30 minute break if someone wins that many matches in a row ?
@ZephrusPrime2 жыл бұрын
That fatigue is no joke. Mental and physical.
@LancasterArcherySupply2 жыл бұрын
So that's part of our game. In any other tournament, Lee would not even get the chance to shoot his way up the finals ladder. He came in to the finals as the 7 seed and was able to shoot his way up to third. In our format, the lower seeds have the chance to win it all, but they have to shoot through the finals field to do it. The key is to attain as high a rank as possible. But short of that, you still have a chance to get to the podium as long as you get into the finals. If you ask the archers who compete here, that's why they love our format. All they want is a chance at the title....

I know that Bottom-up format is great for the public, but it is not a fair format for the archers. Technically the last shooter comes out fresh and takes it all, when another may have had 6 matches before and shot 72 arrows. If anything they should have put Demmer at the start, defending till the end, if he's the favorite.

I know in other sports, 2 (different) competitors will be paired up in a process of elimination until there is only 2 left, it speeds up time drastically compared to the way it was done here. Is the way the tournament is currently structured open for debate? Is there other types of bow tournaments done differently? I may lean in that direction before I bought a barebow. Thanks for any input

Lee, you won the tournament in my opinion! Maybe next time you won't draw first position, Koodos Bro!
@pjreilly39972 жыл бұрын
Just as an explainer because there seems to be some confusion about our format. Lee didn't "draw" his position that led him to shoot first. The archers are ranked according to how they shot the previous two days before the finals. So the top-ranked archer....that is the archer who shot the best scores the previous two days.....gets the No. 1 slot. The other archers behind him are positioned according to their rankings based on score. So Lee started out in the first match because he was ranked 7th among the top 8 archers. Under most tournament formats, Lee would have no chance to finish better than 7th. Our format gives archers the chance to shoot their way up the ladder. So we start with 8 vs 7. The winner advances to take on No. 6....the winner there shoots against No. 5 and so on until someone shoots against No. 1. But each archer earned the position they are in based on qualification scores. There is no randomness to the ranking.

My father and I both use finger tabs while hunting. This year is the first year my bow has even had a peep sight. We both use a single pin. Not alot of people shoot without all these gizmos and gadgets nowadays. We have enough to make sure we hunt ethically but its fun without having all the high tech gizmos. This competition is really appealing to me. Im literally a single pin away. When I was a small child I had a play bow I would go out in the woods and play with and it had a single knock and the arrow just rested on the riser. Love this stuff!

The archers are seeded for the finals based on their scores in the qualification round, which is not televised (it's boring to watch). The qualification round is generally considered to be a better metric of skill than the final rounds (more arrows makes for less randomness). The most consistent archers who score the highest in qualifications have the least work to do in the finals. This way, you can only be pushed down one place from your qualifying mark, and each match you win after you defend your place moves you up one spot.

The archers who rank higher in qualifying have less work to do in the finals. The qualifying round is generally considered to be the better metric of skill (more arrows means less randomness), but it just isn't televised because it's boring to watch.
