For group ride talk, we use discord. We have a voice chat group we all use, doesn’t matter what setup your using.

That's a good tip! I've used Discord a few times on rides for comm's and file sharing. We used it on the Scooter Cannonball Run for rider location updates and emergency track notices (e.g., rider down, bike down, road closures, etc). Unfortunately, Discord is internet-based, and it only works when you have a good 4G/5G data connection. It's not a problem if you're traveling mostly on major interstates or near larger cities. However, there are lots of rural highways and vast stretches between states that can have spotty (or zero) mobile data. Dedicated bluetooth or other line-of-sight radios are the only reliable option in those cases. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

The Rebel 1100 is a fantastic, fun machine! The few problems that I've experienced with my Rebel are the exceptions rather than the rule. The oil leak issue seems to be fairly common, but Honda is aware of the problem and they are working with owners and dealers to resolve it. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

I love these videos. I've been putting them on in the background while I do other stuff, it's really relaxing. I do want to let you know, streaming platforms have banned people for having chat up from their streams while driving. You can stream but you just cant read chat or mess with the phone. Twitch has come down hard on people. I don't know about youtube streaming but I'm sure it's similar. Just be careful.

That's good info regarding some channels being banned or flagged for comments while driving. I considered installing a small ruggedized tablet on the scooter behind the windscreen. That could allow me to tap to read comments while riding and still keep my eyes forward to the road. That's still dangerous, so I decided against that risk and complexity. I'm tentatively planning to bribe or hire a comment moderator that can help me with the livestreams for a few hours each day during the rides. I'll try to be online and streaming all day, but the live comment interactions will be coordinated for a shorter window of time while the moderator is available. I'll probably use StreamYard or Zoom to handle those sessions so other guests can join into the stream as well. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Thanks for watching! I have ridden the Suzuki DR200 and VanVan a few times. They are reliable, no-frills machines that are great under the right conditions (e.g., trails, gravel, and sand for the VanVan). Neither of them are very fast, so it can be challenging to ride them very far from home... much like the mini-moto's from Honda. My choice for a small dual-purpose bike would be the Yamaha XT250. It's not a stellar performer either, but the extra displacement and engine power let you ride highways easier, and the suspension is better than the small Suzukis. The XT250 is the only dual-purpose bike (to my knowledge) that has reasonable seat height... 32" is very approachable for shorter riders. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

That's the RiderScan Blindspot Mirror: amzn.to/3nJjXLp . It really helps situational awareness in traffic because the view is over 180° wide. There is a learning curve to using it because of the double-convex shape, but it becomes second nature after a few hours. There is a learning curve to use it properly because the image is distorted by the mirror's convex shape, but it becomes second nature after a few hours of riding. Howdy, Emily! I guess that depends on your idea of "long distance" and how you like to tour. The Rebel 1100 is a surprisingly athletic bike, much more than the HD Softail. The Rebel 1100's engine makes less HP and torque, but it weighs a whopping 150 pounds less. The difference in handling between the bikes is night and day because of the lower weight and the Rebel's massive 35° lean angle vs. the Softail's 28.5°. The Rebel 1100's seating position is more sporty than most cruisers and bobbers. The forward reach to the bars can be troublesome for shorter riders, and the mid-controls can be too cramped for taller riders. The sweet spot for rider height seems to be 5'4" to 5'11". If you're interested in the DCT version, it's light years beyond the HD Softail. The ability to twist-and-go just can't be matched, and it suits the cruiser/tourer attitude. Both the manual and DCT versions have throttle-by-wire with 4 ride modes, ABS, traction control, and built-in electronic cruise control. It makes a superb back road cruiser. However, it needs a few add-ons to be an excellent touring bike: - setback handlebar risers - touring windscreen - footpeg extensions or forward controls - more comfortable seat - rear rack or saddlebag supports to carry luggage Some manufacturers are making forward control kits, so you stretch out your knees and hips. You might shop T-Rex Racing ( www.t-rex-racing.com/2021-Honda-Rebel-1100-Products-s/2229.htm ) and De Pretto Moto ( www.deprettomoto.com/en/250-cmx1100-rebel-2021-22 ) for those options. MadStad Engineering has fantastic touring screens that are adjustable and quick-removable ( madstad.com/collections/rebel/products/honda-rebel-1100-2021-up ). Memphis Shades also has some excellent options ( memphisshades.com/collections/honda-fairings-and-windshields/honda-rebel-1100-2021 ). The only other issue is the Rebel's soft rear suspension. The factory shocks are passable for lighter riders, but they are under-damped and need a lot of spring preload to compensate. The rear suspension can beat you up after a few hundred miles compared to other cruisers and proper touring bikes. Cheers, and I hope you find a Rebel that works for you! 😉👍 --QM

Started watching your videos because I was interested in your experience with the Rebel DCT and was considering selling my 2014 CB1100 Deluxe for one but as of yet I haven't pulled the trigger but your videos keep me interested in the bike. I wanted to say I agree with your comments on group riding. I've experienced the same issues you state in your video. I've ridden for many years but haven't put up significant miles so I know my limitations and find I don't care to ride with more than a few others in a group ride. How difficult can it be to ride at a reasonable pace that everyone can enjoy? My biggest peeve these days are the riders that try to instruct other riders when to pull out at an intersection or when there is an opportunity to overtake. Don't need anyone trying to impose their questionable riding decisions on to other riders thru their intercoms. It's not a race so if that's what they want to do then be considerate of others and don't be part of the group who are out to enjoy the ride.

Thanks for watching and leaving feedback, Charlie! Group rides can get dicey, but we are a relaxed bunch of riders... no speed antics or crazy maneuvering in traffic. The Rebel 1100 is a great cruiser for riders under 6' tall. If you're taller or long-legged, then the Rebel might be a bit cramped. I'm planning to install a set of De Pretto Moto forward controls and a set of mini floorboards on my Rebel eventually. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

@QuasiMotard I'm 5'9" so that's not a problem but I would like to occasionally ride it with the wife and not sure she would be comfortable for something over an hour. I'm intrigued by the dct and I would have preferred it to have been belt drive over the chain and the Africa Twin engine has the opposite appearance to the CB1100's inline 4. I'll sit on the fence for now and enjoy your videos, thanks for the reply.

Howdy, Ryan! I think the new Rebel 1100T would be a good starting point for someone who has already decided on a Rebel DCT, but they don't want to source their own fairing or windscreen, saddlebags, and other add-on accessories. Honda didn't really change anything to make this a "touring" bike, other than to add their accessory batwing fairing and a new set of hard panniers. Otherwise, it's the same bike with the same suspension and fuel capacity as the previous Rebel 1100 DCT. I wish that Honda had upgraded the suspension and added a larger fuel tank... that would have been worthy of the "Tour" badge, in my opinion. Unless someone is really set on Honda's batwing fairing and hard bags, I would recommend prospective buyers to save a bit of money and go with the non-Tour DCT version. Then they can add the touring accessories that suit their needs. My personal preference would be a MadStad Engineering adjustable windscreen, a Mustang seat, the OEM (Honda/SW-Motech) soft panniers, and maybe some footpeg extensions. Those accessories would cost less than the $1300 premium of the "Tour" model, and they would transform the Rebel into a better tourer. That's just my $0.02, anyway... different strokes for differrent folks. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

I use the Quad Lock case and mounting systems on all of my motorcycles and scooters. The phone was mounted with the rear cameras forward (toward traffic) and I used StreamYard to broadcast the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYTMhJmZqN9nrKM My Cardo PackTalk was connected to my phone via bluetooth to provide the audio for the live stream. Unfortunately, the phone camera doesn't have any video stabilization when used in webcam mode, so the video was very rough and hard to watch. Connectivity for the live stream dropped in and out several times and varied between 5G/4G/LTE. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Well, I guess it's all subjective about what's "interesting" or "fun" for you. These events usually focus on the meet-up and hanging out with friends, and less on a structured group ride. It makes more sense to me if the event lasts more than just an afternoon... 2-3 days duration makes the long trip more worth the effort. I treat these as "destination events" because they are usually across the country from me. The ride to and from the destination is mostly a long, fast highway slog, so there usually isn't much "fun" in that part of the journey. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
