I have the DCT version but personally I would probably go back to manual next time. DCT is fantastic for 99% of the riding, but after a year I still find it strange when slow manouvering like parking etc. Also, it is difficult to get used to the fact that it often changes down from second to first when in the middle of a slow 90 degree turn. Something you would never do with a manual bike !
@TonberryShuffle Жыл бұрын
It's not a manliness thing; it's a preference. I don't even drive automatic cars simply because I do not enjoy it. I hate the dual clutch cars for the same reason. It's not enjoyable. I haven't attempted a DCT in bikes but I don't think it'll be any different.

My current bike is a CTX with the dual clutch transmission - that DCT rocks! I've owned a lot of bikes over the years (9 Harleys, 4 Goldwings, a couple BMWs, a Triumph Bonneville, and others... I used to think the riding experience wouldn't be the same without pulling in a clutch lever and clicking up or down a gear... yeah, it is better with the DCT. I haven't ridden the Rebel 1100T, but doing a "test sit" on the standard 1100, it felt a bit cramped to me. This 1100T certainly has the look going for it!

I am disappointed by 3 factors from the 1100T, and 2 of them you mention right off the bat. I prefer a manual, and I wish they offered the 1100T fairing and bags as a kit for the regular 1100 (since I already have a manual). The third complaint is the seat. That thing is absolutely not a touring saddle. I could only ride for about an hour at a time before I swapped to a Corbin.

I've had the forward foot peg kit from T-Rex Racing on my 1100 DCT for a couple of months now and it is AWESOME. It attaches to the standard foot-peg slots and extends the position forward from 1 to 5 inches. I've got mine set for 5 inches forward and it gives you so much more room to move your feet up and now and no longer have knee cramps on long trips at all ! Best mod you can do in my book ! Burch, as they fit onto the standard peg slots, there MAY be a chance that you could also use them to move the passenger pegs forward too. If so then this could be done with no drama whatsover. Check them out mate. Even though I paid a fortune to have them shipped to the UK they are well worth every penny !

I'm not against this, but if you're making a touring mode you gotta do a little more than what people can do on their own. The same colors makes it feel like an afterthought and I think the frame being flat black is because they had to match the supports for the bags. I kinda prefer SW Motech's bags. T-rex racing has hard bags for the rebel 1100 with a better bar. Honestly still love it though. That batwing looks good for a touring model. They should let you get your hands on one of those scramblers if they bring it stateside lol

@raybrensike42 Жыл бұрын
Honda is really onto something here with this 1100. I would prefer clamshell bags because when you go on a trip, you may have more bags and if you stack them on top of the rear seat or on a rack, you won't be able to get to anything in the saddle bags if they open from the top. The suspension needs more travel and if it had different springs for different weight riders and adjustments for both compression and rebound dampening, everyone should be able to be happy without buying aftermarket. I'm sure it needs a better, wider, seat with more padding. The suspension fix and seat would raise the seat height a few inches though and there are some tradeoffs in all of that. Some might like it while others might not, but I really think Honda should have a long run of this motorcycle. It's light, fast, and low and even has a touring package. This reminds me of the light tourers of the past, something we lost with all the things people either wanted or thought they wanted. Suddenly they got heavy with bigger motors and all the stuff, and we lost the lightweight tourer of the past. Actually though, you can plan your trip to not put anything you are going to need right away in the side bags. They do look waterproof. I think the bags are fine.

Will Honda EVER incorporate BELT drive on a motorcycle? If this bike had belt drive I probably would have been in the dealership looking really hard at this thing. Why can't they seem to get away from that old messy, dirty, high maintenance chain drive-- I know, I know, it's cheaper, but the extra belt drive would have cost would have been worth EVERY PENNY
@arbiter6452 Жыл бұрын
Wow, I just realized my 2014 Honda Accord Sport with the CVT and Paddle Shifters and Sport Mode. I can manually downshift at any time in Drive. Sport mode it will delay shifting and will shift almost like an standard transmission. Or you can paddle shift manually while in Sport mode. The 1100 DCT reminded me of how my car handles.
@AyaWetts Жыл бұрын
except the DCT has actual gears.. The CVT is still a belt and pulley system with a lot of cars (like yours) having pre-programmed points to mimic having gears. It makes it less efficient mimicing gears like that, but they had problems with customers complaining about not having gears or the RPM staying in one place they had to trick them by making it run like a normal automatic because a normal CVT runs so different everyone thought something was wrong with the car, or it didn't feel like a car should... 🙄

It they offered the 1100T in manual with belt or shaft drive, I'd own one by the end of the month to replace my '03 Road King which has just become too much to manhandle around town at my age with my medical conditions. I'm looking for a bike for that purpose, but it must be shaft or belt driven (preferably belt), fuel injected, liquid cooled and preferably between 550-600 lbs wet weight (we have frequent high wind in my AO).
@jamessouthworth1699 Жыл бұрын
You can setup your standard Rebel like the touring model on your own. I love all bikes and I recently equipped a Harley Dyna with bags and windshield that are nearly identical to the Touring Rebel. For the bags I used Viking Lamellar Vale bags (universal fit) and Memphis Shades Batwing (yes they make one For The Rebel too). I had to move my rear foot pegs forward to clear the bags and there are several aftermarket relocation kits that are probably cheaper than the factory brackets. Of course my relocation kit won't fit a Honda but the price was under $100.

@feloniousmonk3049 Жыл бұрын
It's not an automatic transmission... it's an auto-manual transmission. That you can shift it on the fly with paddles makes it manual. It has a manual mode, also. Honda needs to ditch a chain and sprockets on a street bike and at a minimum go belt drive. They also absolutely need to build this with a one piece step seat with pillion, to hold you in from sliding off the back when you get hard on the throttle, and have at least a 5 gallon fuel tank. Honda is really entering Harley Davidson Low Rider ST or the older Sport Glide territory with this lite touring model. They need a bit more travel front and rear, about 5 to 5.5" if they want to make a comfortable touring bike. They also need a bike that can be comfortable for someone besides a midget to sit on and ride. I looked hard at the 1100, but at 6' 5", there was just no way I could make a new bike like this work for me.... Ended up spending 12k on a used low mileage fully loaded with goodies HD Sport Glide that was a garage queen. Sometimes wish my HD had a DCT transmission.

Give it belt or shaft, the CHOICE of standard or DCT and they'd sell many more of them. Chain drive "tourer" is ghey.
@xxARAtaixx Жыл бұрын
Totally with you on the shaft drive. But it's not going to happen. Honda has used this motor and final drive in multiple models and that's how they are keeping their costs down. Design, RnD and developing a shaft will probably add around 20% to the retail price of these bikes and not very many will buy the shaft-ed bikes over chain driven ones for an added $3000. And it's a shame they didn't design the bike with that in mind.

Honestly, it’s probably a more “sporty” bagger than the Harley ST baggers? 1100cc should be plenty to tour on, and I don’t have any complaints about the size of the bike. The fact that it’s DCT only is a hard pass for me. I ride a ‘21 Harley LRS and I’m adding a second bike sometime this year, and this bike is OUT. Not because I don’t like it or even because it’s DCT. It’s because I will decide if I want a manual or automatic, not Honda.

i guess we are lucky in Canada as we get manual and DCT. I can see a market for new riders etc but dct to me is basically a scooter. in saying that.. I didnt like the look of the stock rebel 1100 but the bags and fairing is a 10 out of 10 ..

Honda needs to do something about the saddle bag look. Other than that it looks pretty sharp. What do they offer for aftermarket exhaust for that? Or is that not available yet?
@AyaWetts Жыл бұрын
several options to have much better lower straight pipes that can work with saddle bags. I have a Coffman's Thunder on mine, with some large Viking saddle bags (custom made mounting, they don't support the Rebel 1100 normally). I have larger better bags, and a larger fairing on mine making it a lot better for touring than the T model... if I could just somehow replace the stupid chain with a belt.

That black one kind of reminds me of a vintage WWII Harley 45 or Indian Army bike. Now if they would just make O.D. paint as an option...

Very interested in the bracket solution to move the passenger pegs forward a bit. I was able to get a decent bag solution to work for mine, but my wife has similar comfort issues that your gal reports. If you have it handy, would you post a link to where you found the part and cost information for that? Sometimes I suck at internetting.... Thanks for all the videos BTW! Watching your videos helped me make my decision to get the Rebel 1100 last year. Cheers man!

I really don't like these companies coming out with uneven bags. Harley, Indian, Honda..... I want as much storage as I can possibly get on a road trip.

----- different strokes for different folks - for my tastes, those would be difficult to ride with the mandatory bag over my head so nobody I knew would see it was me

I have a 2022 MT rebel 1100 that I've put 5,000 miles on. It's top speed being 100 MPH isn't a big deal to some people, but something to keep in mind is that if you're going 80 mph (standard freeway speed here in the CA bay area) you are getting 30mpg, and riding balls out. The fact 6th gear is barely longer than 5th gear is a huge turn off for me. The rebel having a 6th gear is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. Obviously, the rebel had stability issues and they covered it up with short gearing. Either way, they look even cooler in real life and feel great around town, but I'm going to be selling it when I get the pink slip next month. Unless you're sold on the looks, you're better off with something else imo.

Put some Metzler Cruise tec tires on it and the stability issues are gone. Search on KZbin "Honda Rebel 1100 Metzler" and watch a few videos, and you'll find out the stability issue is tire related. One guy did track day on his rebel 1100 DCt recently and was killing it. No wobbles.

I'm 65 years old and still riding Harleys. Why? I stay in shape and I'm not a Schlumburger. IF a Harley ever became just to cumbersome I'd consider this bike. It DOES look Harleyish but who cares? If you don't like it don't look at it. The bag above the exhaust is cut just like the Harley Heritage Classic. The exhaust on this bike, well? I grew up on Sesame Street......... One Of These Things (Is Not Like The Others) One of these things is not like the others, One of these things just doesn't belong, Can you tell which thing is not like the others By the time I finish my song?

that is a good looking Rebel. Except, the bag brace could have been done different, like separate brace for each side, why DCT? manual is what makes riding a bike fun. that is a great looking ride, how about the bars? do you still have a forward lean to reach the bars? is there enough room to add a sound system in the fairing? and Honda must know people are going to change exhaust, hence the brace for the bags. lookin for your next review of the Rebel T.
@rpontonjr Жыл бұрын
The DCT is plenty of fun, and sooooooo much more comfortable and convenient in traffic. If you're munching miles on a straight freeway, you're not shifting much anyways, and it really helps to have a hand free. You can still get a manual Rebel for twisties and burnouts, but DCT just makes sense for a touring bike.

Honda, Make an even bigger rebel. We need a 1400-1600 parallel twin the size of a m109. I want to tour on my 1100 but it just isn’t big enough to stay comfortable and stretch out on!

I think it looks great, and I would love to get one as an upgrade from my Rebel 500 for longer distance. But unfortunately as long as it is only offered with the DCT and has a chain drive, I'm going to have to look at something different. I took the Rebel 500 on a long distance ride but having to clean the chain every 600 miles was a pretty big pain. A bigger gas tank would have been nice too, but I can look past that. The chain and DCT? Not so much...
@howiethehowitzer7398 Жыл бұрын
I understand DCT being a deal breaker. It is for me, but chain drive isn't a deal breaker. Less power loss and a lil maintenance won't hurt.
@jordanspencer1934 Жыл бұрын
@@howiethehowitzer7398 Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I do like having a chain on the 500 in general. And the maintenance isn't bad when I'm just going for rides around where I live but for longer distance, like the 1100T is going for, it's a pain to have to clean the chain every two days. But maybe that's on me, because I'm wanting the 1100T to be something it's not. I feel like the 1100T is a "sporty touring cruiser" and for my needs I just want a touring cruiser. Don't need a ton of power or performance, just something I can get on and go for a while.
@mikeb8342 Жыл бұрын
If you keep your chain lubed, you don't have to clean it every 600 miles while on a road trip (especially staying off dirt roads). It might wear a bit more, but not that big a deal. I have 9200 on my CTX700 DCT and I've had very little wear..... and I maybe have cleaned it 5-6 times since new. I do typically keep it well lubed. To be fair, I haven't toured with it.... that's what my K1600GTL is for.

It blows my mind that Honda puts out a touring bike that doesnt look have bad but decided to not include a radio and all the nice things a touring bike has.......
