Jake took a 2022 MX-30 on a 150-mile road trip to see how the MX-30 handled highway driving, public DC Fast Charging, and overnight charging on the 120V travel charger. This 🚙 is Brilliant for these 2️⃣ reasons: 1 - City Car (errands/grocery/picking children up from school) 2 - Second car (meaning it can be a daily-driver for someone who’s job is less than 35 miles from their residence- Which is MOST people in Metro areas. Come on Folks 😀)

Agreed. Perfect for a commuter in London, UK. I commute a 34 mile round trip daily on week days. I do not go on weekend round trips beyond 70 miles max. My life is now entirely short journeys. I love the Crossover SUV Coupe design. Retirement is 4 years away. We have a Yaris super mini for those rare longer distances. This would be perfect for me / us for local journeys - and with its smaller battery, it’s as green as it gets. Home charging in London UK is an absolute must - we have 240v and even a standard 2.3kW/h three pin plug will still give me a full charge overnight.

To be fair...in the UK you can pick one of these for around £16,000 ...2021 with maybe 6 to 10k miles. I dont think that's not too bad a deal.

Excellent deal indeed, purchased second hand. This is how I will purchase an EV on a budget. The low insurance rate 19E is also very attractive - perfect for my needs. Love the premium interior and the more traditional dashboard design - instead of one giant touchscreen. I’m obsessed with the Mazda MX-30.

Great video. One question, on your final charge from 5% to 70% how long did that take and was it at 50 kwh? Again, great video. Thanks

According to the evGo app, it took 29 minutes (yay, data!) and from our memory, the car charged at 50 kWh the entire time. Was pretty quick to ramp up to that speed when plugged in, obviously slows down above 80% as any EV does.

Its one of the loveliest cars in a long time. A kind of subtle classic that grows on you. But the battery is a little too small (45KwHr would have been ok). And the price is shocking.

I'm pretty sure the paddles are just adjusting regen, they have no effect at all on the power output of the motors.

Correct, but in the ++ mode it feels a bit more sprightly off the line - just from the total lack of drag (of regen) vs the normal or - / -- modes.

One paddle enhances regen - the other induces freewheeling, allowing you to glide long distances without using electrical power - and completely removing regen capability unless you touch the brakes. I freewheel regularly in my 2008 Prius (throttle pedal has a spot for freewheeling under 43 mph).

When we charge our to 80%, we get 158km, wich is 98-99 miles.

The hope is that they'll use this as a jumping-off point for some plug-in hybrids and more full EVs with realistic range beyond city-car driving. But TBD.
