I think you nailed it. When I was test driving cars, this car just felt the most simple, the most analog, and made me feel the most like I was in a car from the late 90's/early 2000's (in the best way possible). No rev hang, great shifter, no gimmicks, a single button to turn of traction control, light and tossable, and a buttery, free-revving engine--I was sold. An exhaust and some suspension work to tighten it up, and it's as perfect of a canyon car as you can buy these days, especially for the price and how cheap consumables are for it.

I have owned two Camaros, starting in 1969, two Firebirds, a Fiero, that I bought for my wife, and, two Mustangs. including my 2003 Mach 1 that I still drive just for kicks. Also, I have a KIA Sportage Turbo that is surprisingly a driver's treat. However, once I bought my 2022 Mazda MX-5, Miata RF GT, I realized that now I get to experience the thrill of being in the world's best-selling, if not the best, most fun sports roadster. Its not a practical daily-use vehicle. However, it is a must have sports vehicle for those who want the thrill of driving a brilliant, perfectly balanced, peppy track-ready sports car on city street, country roads and the highways. If you love the thrill of driving, you will love the Miata.

Excellent review. As a young man I owned 2 MGB's, a '64 and a '66. Raced the '64 and drove the '66 daily. The MX-5 takes me back to those days. My 1st MX-5 was the 2016 (automatic) due to my age I thought. Well, I soon got over that shit and bought a 2017 manual and really fell in love with this car. When the '19's came out with the 181 hp, I traded up to that and put about 80k miles on it, then a few weeks ago, traded up to the 2023 GT. I can't stay out of it! By the way, I bought a Racing Beat Power Pulse muffler for the 1st MX-5 and have had the same muffler, now on the 4th MX-5.

Have a 2016 Club soft top with the Brembo / BBS package since the 1st week of March 2017. Daily drive in 4 season weather as my winter tires sit stacked on a dolly in the garage. Its never been a weekend toy for me. Instead it has been thru some of the worst weather I've seen in 50 years of driving being reliable as any car I've owned in the past. The ND1 has better low end torque than the ND2 but loses its power at the top end so you have to shift gears to make it fly. Great car all around - exceeds my expectations. Easy to work on & modify also. Oil changes are a breeze with the right tools. Low cost to maintain & insure !

Love these Malibu canyon roads, that's my favorite playground! Just bought a ND2 Grand Touring last week and can't wait to see how it behaves on Latigo/Stunt/Tuna... I'll hopefully take it next week if it's ready, otherwise i'll take my other super light toy :)

The front suspension is aluminum upper and lower A-arms with aluminum upright, the rear is a steel tube five link with an aluminum upright. Great cars, mine has almost 93,000 miles and is driven year round in New Hampshire. I have a set of snow tires on their own rims for that. Mine is a 2016 Sport, the base model, the only modification has been Wilwood brakes front and rear from Flyin'Miata.

Some twins are unequal as with these two. I've seen two Fiat types in my area. In talking to the owners at different times of the year, both have had engines problems during the first two years of ownership. I am now on my 4th MX-5 and have put between 45K miles and 80k on those 3. I had 78K miles on the 3rd, of which, I traded for this new one, a 2023 MX-5 GT. I've had it for about 3 weeks now and getting ready to hit 2K miles and can't stay out of it.
