Not a fan of the touchscreen, UI design, lane assist bugging you, lack of rear climate control, and the weird touch "buttons" on the steering wheel. I wouldn't consider this car, it's just an expensive version of everything I dislike about certain modern vehicles. I'm sure it drives great, but the interior experience would bug me too much. I currently have a '22 Genesis G70, and while it's not as nice or expensive of a car, it has physical buttons where they need to be, a non obtrusive touchscreen, and great steering wheel buttons. Genesis does a great job with things like that. Companies like Ford and now Mercedes do not. I feel like they are trying to attract non-tech people with flashy tech that looks cool, but it is more form over function. Someone who is into cars and tech would probably be disappointed with how the interior is set up from a driver's perspective.

The last generation S Class had a superior design to this both interior and exterior. Sure, the tech in this is more fancy but you could tell the old one apart from the 3 LED strips in the headlights was an S Class, now it just looks like an A class from the front and all the rest of the models. The interior of this one is frankly a step backwards with gloss black plastic and a screen integration that doesn't flow smoothly at all with the rest of the design contrary to the last gen model that had gorgeous quilted leather stitching across the dash.

People always do this when new car generations come out. I’ve already seen a surprising amount of new S Classes considering supply issues and seriously doubt that their sales will be impacted because people online think it’s ugly. I for one love the looks of the new S-class. I wouldn't call it an upgrade but rather MB going in a different direction. The older seemed more luxurious and minimal while this is pushing the aggressive styling pretty hard especially on the interior. The good news is buying a used last-gen S-Class for 45k will be an amazing deal if you are able to capture a warranty!

Great POV review as always! Currently own heavily optioned 2015 S550 w/77K miles (low miles because of Covid) and not sure I am ready to go to this new generation or try for low mileage 2020 S560 with the much better looking interior and still real buttons and knobs, etc. Have driven new S580 for short test drives and not a fan of capacitive controls and piano black plastic everywhere. But I like the new tech - my generation S does not even have Apple CarPlay. Waiting to see and drive new 2023 Genesis G90 (previous gen not impressive enough) and 2023 BMW 7 series. Even looking hard at 2022 MB E450 4Matic with updated tech and interior like my current S550 (not as luxurious). Wish Mercedes would move away from piano black and capacitive controls everywhere!

This car leaves me disappointed, doesn’t feel like an s class, it feels like a step backwards. The new 7 series although hideous outside makes up for it inside. This however just looks cheap. I understand Mercedes new design direction but it simply is not s class worthy. It’s amazing on the c class blowing away the competition but the s class seems as though it lost it’s identity. Throw the Eqs and gls into the mix and the entire s class lineup feels extremely far gone from what was known as the s class.

These cars just look cheap. The predecessor was way better. That one looks small and not as elegant and luxurious. The Open wood looks like Ikea and „piano black“ plastic is an absolute no go. It puts fancy screens and tech and light all over the place but imagine you took that out. What would remain? Sams goes for the new 7 Series btw although there it’s even worse. Just drove a W220 S from 2000. A car like that can never reach that. Not in a million years. All it does is screaming „tech, tech, tech“ but where is the class and luxury? Its just sad.

This is going to sound so dumb but I love all the tech and stuff with the recent Mercedes, but I can't with the UI

Definitely an impressive automobile that is truly hampered by the fact that it is a disposable gimmick machine for the wealthy.

This is why people with these cars get involved with all the crashes we see on the roads today. They spend more time playing with all the touch controls than actually paying attention to their driving.

A good car to own for about 3-5 years, then dump it before it becomes the inevitable money pit.
