Wow, thank you very much! Everything was exactly as you said. Saved me about $270. Difficult but not horrible. That one screw in the rear just very hard to get access. Hard for an old man to get up on that engine to get to it😂. Anyway, really appreciate what you have done!

Amazing job brother, I don’t know your name, you really took some effort to show how to access air filter, I am not sure I will be doing, Mercedes made it so difficult intentionally so their service team keep busy…I found oil filter is in a tight spot in this car …air filter is even worse….thanks a lot brother

It’s a bear. But with time. You can do it.

Just finished doing this and would like to add a couple of suggestions. Those clips underneath the air box were very difficult to remove on a cold engine. Couldn't budge them, so I took a blow dryer to heat them and make the plastic more plyable. Sure enough they slipped right off once warmed. I also applied a little silicone grease to the o rings in hopes it'll make removel easier next time. My filter was about as dirty as yours and mine had 16500 miles on it. I personally wouldn't go more than 20k miles without changing it.

I'm having a heck of a time getting the clips off. It tried using a heat gun, but they still wouldn't budge. I was afraid of damaging the plastic so I didn't heat the cup for long. How long did you heat them up?
@nickplenzick26028 ай бұрын
@@andyleo8418 I wouldn't use a heat gun. I used a blow dryer. Really didn't get them really hot, just warm enough to make the plastic pliable. It takes a little knack to get the hang of it.

I struggled for a half hour to remove that bottom cylinder plug/clip, no place to grab and so stiff, I was about to give up until I saw your suggestion and 20 seconds with the hair dryer was the trick to unplug that stupid part. Why they could not split the airbox in 2 and have the curved part stationary and the cover for where the filter as a removable lid is probably the fault of the cost accountants looking to save money by making it a single and difficult piece

1.5 hours to replace an air filter is ridiculous. Mercedes makes it difficult on purpose to discourage DIYers. Dealers want their $500+ Service B intervals from owners. Thanks for the video.

It’s truly unnecessary how they built this. Didn’t need to be this difficult. Keep their mechanics employed for sure! Take your time and save your money. It’s not too difficult. Just a little time consuming !!

K&N is a good brand...but personally, I gravitate to the filters that are most like the OEM. Or are of very good quality. I usually go with MANN, MAHLE, WIX, Premium brands. or try to get the OEM from a 3rd party or eBay. what kind of car do you have?

@@jaimeramos2340 that’s interesting for a later model but not impossible. I would have someone check all the engine mounts and braces on the engine. Might be something as simple as that and not mechanical at all.

in all my years of working on cars NEVER saw such a BS design for an airbox and the difficulties to remove it to replace the filter. MAJOR FAIL MERCEDES

@@talkingwithcars My previous W203 was a piece of cake 6 torx screws to take the lid off, Our other car Mk7 Golf is also 6 torx screws and a 5 min job. Even worse however is a Porsche 981 Cayman or Boxster. Took me almost an hour to change the filter in my C300 Wagon. And if the sensor plugs were difficult, the coupling of the airbox to the turbo at the C clip was also a pain separating the pieces and later putting them together to line up the grove so the C clip holds them together as the coupling between the 2 plastic parts is very stiff
@talkingwithcars4 ай бұрын
