Yup. Drove it and I have the same experience. I also drove Chery tiggo 7 pro and it sucked. Hill start assist is not good, and acceleration from traffic is not smooth. I like Geely Coolray way better. As Caco said, I believe the Azkarra is also good. Apparently, chinese cars are only good because of their features. In terms of driving experience, they are way behind Japanese cars.

I honestly don't see any pros choosing this over the MG ZS given that luggage space isn't really remarkable and most of the features you get on this is available in the ZS. Regardless, awesome review still best in the business!!

Excellent and very useful video. I completely agree with that jerk when you are stuck in the traffic - not very helpful to be honest. As you rightly said, you have to straightaway put your foot on the break too after accelerator. Hope one of the other driving modes can sort out the issue. Just subscribed to your channel too. Kudos to AutoDeal for the transparency on this review. That jerkiness is typical of DCT transmissions. I hate DCTs. I believe Ford Ecosport has it before, when it's transmission is still DCT. And in the past, I believe some Volkswagen models has DCT issues as well. I just can't believe James Deakin is endorsing this vehicle. And he did not even mention the jerky transmission on his blog.

DCT of ecosport is worst and used a dry clutch which had a seal problem prone to water ingress and that explains the jerkiness and total malfunction of their dct. The new generation DCT is a wet type clutch to avoid overheating of clutch lining. The jerkiness of this new dct can be attributed to the initial tuning of the clutch. Just like any computer controlled transmission, the dct or any standard a/t will adapt to the type of driver (how hard or easy the driver is on his acceleration pedal), road condition, etc. It is called adaptive learning which is pretty common in car parts like throttle body on its valve opening, etc. So in theory, the engine transmission computer should be able to correct this as the tcm adapted some learning values as the car mileage increases. But driving a dct equipped car has a different feel compared to a smooth standard a/t with torque converter which smoothens the jerkiness since it acts like a properly tuned slipping clutch. On the other hand dct is not a normal a/t, it is an automated “manual transmission” (not autotrans) that’s why there’s a feel of like “may atras” when you’re driving from a stop at an inclined road (that’s why all dct have autohold brake function to avoid this), and the small jerkiness at a crawling traffic or backing up when parking. It’s a matter of practice to get this jerkiness away and hopefully the adaptive learning of tcm might help. I am speaking out of experience on this.

Yes protect Caco! But why do I feel that James Deakin suddenly became a villain because of his MG HS purchase? I was actually expecting JD to get the new HRV when he said he wanted a compact SUV. And he picked MG over HRV. I have already driven the HRV Turbo and it was quite amazing, ang smooth s crawling traffic and yet pg open highway na, ang responsive ng throttle hndi mo iisiping CVT.

I don't know man I feel like the back roll should be a non issue. Every driver should expect back roll on incline no matter what car you use. AT or MT, with hill assist or without all drivers should act as if their car will roll back on a incline during traffic. Also confidence in your driving skills is definitely more valuable than confidence in your car. No hate tho still a great vid

I gotta say, I do like the overall proportions of this vehicle, despite the out of place bucket-like front seats, but Caco says it makes sense for the suspension so it is okay. MG should option manual transmissions on their SUVs, but well majority of people who buy these just wants to go from point A to B so no sense for them to option a manual transmission. It's a shame really, for me.

Thank you for this review! As a female of a regular, Asian height, if it isn't too much to ask, maybe you can add if the driver's seat has height adjustment in your videos? I always thought it was a common feature and found out recently that it isn't. Not comfortable having to sit on a pillow or leaning so close to the steering wheel because I prefer a more relaxed sitting position and still being able to see over the steering wheel :)

Yes it has a height adjustment on driver's seat. My daughter's height is short, and I raised the seat right to the top, and she is very comfortable with the height now, no need to use pillow! Its the horizontal button on the side of the seat, that you just push up and it raises the height of the seat. Hope it helps

that "rolling back" thing could be the DCT disengaging its clutches and trying to either shift down or shift up. They need to retune the system behind that if that's the case.

JD bought this car because of the brand car covenant some sort. I had high hopes before the launch of the car. DCT works well with let's say GTR35 or the Evo X GSR. I just don't understand what happened with MG's

It's a Hyundai Venue with turbo in a Tucson's body. We're at a time in the Philippines when diesel is more expensive, HEV's are getting better, and EVIDA will soon render ICE's pointless unless you drive on SCTEX/TPLEX at 230 kph for work. I would get this in a heartbeat 5 years ago, but I don't see why anyone wouldn't get a hybrid with gas prices at 80 per liter.

Toyota's non hybrid cost 1.2m hybrid version id 1.6/7m. Granted, the engine is more powerful but ask yourself, how long before you can get back that 4/500k difference? Considering that hybrid still using gas. Do the math.

@@johnp.g.2146Nobody in the market for an HEV should count the difference in fuel costs against the difference in MSRP (unless you're 12 and have no idea how auto loans and family budgeting works) because you're looking at different standard deviations from constantly rising fuel prices, a vehicle's financing terms (Php1.2M MSRP na ICE nga pero 20% down + 6 years to pay naman, kung di tanga baka dukha lang talaga), difference in maintenance costs during a vehicle's lifespan (granted Toyota guarantees 8 years battery warranty for hybrids), to the idea of EVIDA actually lowering importation costs of hybrids and full-electrics in the future. A lot of those looking at full-hybrids would have lapdanced for a Nissan Leaf if it wasn't P2.8M just because of the nature of full-electric vehicles so full-hybrids make perfect sense for those who can actually afford a car and understand why some cars are worth more than others.

I think in your first impressions video of this car, you mentioned the delay when shifting to a different gear, e.g. from D to R...and now this. Plus that sliding you mentioned, that shouldn't happen "usually" in an automatic, well at least not in a traditional AT where it would "hold" you at certain (reasonable) inclines after depressing the brakes. For DCT, I'm not sure though. I mean, it shouldn't be as advance as a Hill Hold Assist, but that right there is a safety concern. To sum it up, I think it's safe to say now that it's transmission system overall is sub par. Which brings me to another point - that no matter how much tech you slap in a car, it's STILL the BASIC things that matter, like the responsiveness and reliability of it's transmission. Maganda pa naman sana siya. 😊

Its actually due to the transmission being a DCT. DCTs are not known to be the best kind of automatics in stop and go traffic due to their jerkiness and type of application, because DCTs are more for cruising or trying to go fast in a race track. Thats why most cars with a DCT are sports cars like the porsche 911 and Nissan GTR because DCTs are meant for fast car applications. Thats why a lot of mass production cars come with either torque converter automatics/Normal ATs or continuous variable transmissions/CVTs because they are not jerky like DCTs

@@EmjayDTube yeah did some research on DCT. Particularly for the HS, you may want to keep auto hold enabled to prevent rolling back. Now I see why Geely opted to include a mild hybrid system for their cars with DCTs. Mild hybrid gets you going at low speed (compensating for the weakness of DCTs). I guess either a "normal" auto or a CVT is the best choice for conquering Manila traffic.
