I had a 2016 new body style Tacoma TRD Sport V6 4x4. The engine and transmission match was horrible. It roared nicely when you started it, after that it was very frustrating engine/transmission match. It downshifted on flat highway. Sold that Tacoma and bought a 2012 Frontier with the 4.0L engine.. I was so much happier. That old 4.0L V6 made circles around Tacoma's new 3.5L V6. I can't believe there are not a lot more discontent with that engine in 2015-2023 Tacoma.

As a 2022 frontier owner I agree with a lot of what you said. However, I don’t understand the take on getting a Tacoma. I test drove all the mid size trucks. The Tacoma didn’t drive nearly as nice as the frontier. The transmission didn’t feel smooth in the Tacoma. I also didn’t like that I couldn’t adjust the seat up and down (Tacoma SR) like I could in the frontier (sv). Im glad you talked about the cab noise on the frontier as it was hands down the quietest mid size truck to drive around. The Frontier it’s such a great value in my opinion and I hope it is built to last 200,000 miles.

Good review. Thanks. I’ve owned 3 Toyota products for a total of 39 years and I kept up with the regular maintenance. Now, Toyota products needs some price controls! I hope the new Frontier has the reliability and longevity of the Toy products. I’m definitely considering one.

2022 Frontier vs 2022 Tacoma, I would take the Tacoma. 2024 normally aspirated V6 Frontier vs 1st gen 2024 turbo four Tacoma, I'll take the Frontier hands down.

Sorry but this trucks sweet spot is far more than just young drivers. It has good 4X4 capability for light, and medium offroad and good in snow. It also is far better on the road, better tech, and better comfort. The Tacomo is only slightly better in Heavy off roading and is significantly more expensive.

Living in the northeast I would definitely get this in 4wd for dealing with the snow. That being said, I'd drive a tacoma if I could fit in one comfortably. Hopefully the interior space/seating position gets improved in the next gen taco

Pedestrian detection with emergency braking is standard on the Frontier SV as well as all Frontiers. Also the back seat folds up giving complete access to the two storage bins underneath. There's a handle on the side. The steering is hydraulic power steering. Love the precise feel as compared to electric. I own a SV 4x4 crew cab. I need it for occasional use such as snow driving, sleet, ice. I would not give up all the positives you mention for the sub-par drivability, feet straight out driving position, indecisive transmission, much worse NVH of a 3rd gen Taco. Drove a 4x4 in both, the Taco was no Comparision.

The problem with Tacomas is the crappy seating position. As a 5'6" driver (using my friend's 2022 Tacoma as an example) I can not for the life of me find the sweet spot where I can actually see over the massive hood of the Tacoma without feeling like I'm going to be damaging my front end. maybe I need a phone book or something to sit on...I don't know. But until Toyota changes the seat design of the Tacoma, I'm out.

It might surprise you that not everyone in the US is at the same socioeconomic level. There are kids in high school driving Porsches. Just because it doesn't work for you, doesn't mean its not an option. I had a job and bought a new truck on a loan at 19. It was important to me. It happens.

You will struggle with two-wheel drive on boat ramps, and also, there is more chance of staying stuck in the snow, mud, etc., so the extra for 4x4 is worth it. Why get a truck if the purpose is not being used as a truck. Maybe for the rear locking rear diff., Tacoma may be better. However, there is no Toyota dealer exist who will not gouge the price. Look at the invoice, and they will add $5k as a 'market adjustment ' price or some bs to rip you off, while you still can find Nissan dealers who won't!

Get the 4wd.if your 6 ft plus go with frontier.major room compared to tacoma.going off road.go with tacoma.frontier faster.reliabilty tacoma.what they're known for.new frontier hasn't been proven yet.frontier is bigger in general

The Tacoma is a 2010 truck with some 2020 upgrade. No one should buy a new Tacoma, not until Toyota actually makes a new truck. I want the new Frontier so bad, buuuut I want to see what Toyota does with the new model/hybrid.

I had a Tacoma 2020 it was horrible .bad seating position,tranny programmed like shit,drum brakes ,shuddering issue from axle flange being under spec but they refused to fix due to 2019 Tacoma's having that problem but my 2020 shouldn't of had it so they wouldn't even check it ,I had to myself .I also had rumble strip vibration They put new leaf springs with a shim to fix issue yet it didn't solve the whole issue.they replaced drums and shoes and shudder issue didn't go away .all this on a new vehicle .I also had a drone from 40-50mph while cruising in traffic .plastic bed shook in the wind.i wanted to love that truck but it was horrible .spent ally vacation going to 4 different dealers.some saying "it's a truck live with it,some trying remedies that didn't work all the way,some telling me it was a transmission issue ON A BRAND NEW VEHICLE . I traded it for a 22 frontier and couldn't be happier ...anyone who wants a Tacoma really needs to go on the forums and research.fan boys will ignore issues bc it looks cool 😐 I ran into someone who just bought a 22 Tacoma and he was furious he had most the same issues I had .I'd stay far away from Tacoma's right now .maybe the next gen will be better but this current one is a disgrace to the Toyota name .
