I love the infotainment display, it's not overbearing, isn't required for most functions, and allows for still a majority of tactile buttons to be used over the touch screen. Very practical and a lot safer than some of the infotainment displays that displace safer buttons while driving. Have to give Nissan props for that.

I love mine, bought it last September. The 4wheel drive system does well in bad weather. I have to be honest, most of the issues that people seem to have with this truck don't apply to me. I'm not concerned about backup cameras or the most up-to-date technology. It's a pickup truck not a luxury vehicle luxury vehicle. If you want the finest luxuries get a sports car.

Nissan was almost a lost cause to me ditching all their offroad vehicles for cross overs sharing the names, and the full size thing is not for me at all, having yhe frontier go a decade with no refresh was starting to concern me as far as where nissan was going in the offroad world, this was a big step the right direction, now bring back the xterra!

I like the review (and turning radius is definitely the worst thing). But, as a 2022 frontier owner, I'm frustrated that off-road youtube reviewers don't understand the running boards. They're actually dual purpose rock rails with removable steps attached. If you're going to off-road this thing, take the steps off and the rock rail will help protect the truck without the loss of clearance.

I have the 2023 Baja Storm 4X and I love it! I had a 2002 Silverado 4x4 for 20 years and it was in my opinion irreplaceable. I was wrong, my son has that truck now and I have this. My only complaint is that there is NO telescoping steering wheel (I am 6'4"). But hey small price to pay for a non turbo charged modern V6. I despise turbos as I see them come through my shop constantly for overheats, block issues etc... Glad I was able to snatch this little beauty up. I'm almost 50 now so this will be the last truck I buy. It will become an heirloom IMO.

Really? because I have had my Ranger blasting in the mountains of Wyoming with zero issues. Personally I would never ever go back to a NA engine. I now have a 2021 Frontier. Had a 2010 frontier for 10 years. They are known for a poor turning radius. TFL did a test and a 4WD F-150 had a significantly tighter turning radius, and it tied a 4WD RAM 2500. Still love my truck. I had my 2010 off road numerous times and it ALWAYS took me wherever I wanted to go. I was tail end charlie on a group of 4x4 trucks. I kept having to stop at the bottom of an uphill to allow the guys in front of me to make it up the muddy roads, as even with all the latest tech ( I had the oldest vehicle in the 2010 ), they were spinning wheels and slinging mud everywhere. I was worried someone would get stuck in front of me. Once they got out of the way (barely in some cases), I'd kick it into 4 low, get it moving, and let it tootle on up the hill w/o all the wheel spinning. And I didn't even have the rear end locked. Surprised a guy that took that "road" regularly. I wouldn't get the running boards either. Those are for mall crawlers, not off road. I'd go with after market REAL rock sliders instead. Even with the steps off, they still reduce the clearance where honest to God rock sliders leave it almost the same. One of my son's has a lifted 2019 4WD F-150. We went elk hunting here in Colorado, and he was shocked at how sure footed that little truck was. I went places w/o question that he admitted he'd have had second thoughts about taking his truck. Never had to engage the locker. My oldest son was so impressed by my old Frontier that he bought a 2022 when they came out.

having a huge truck in the backroads is a hit and miss due to the space you need to get thru some areas with heavy bushes or groups of small trees and giant dirt pot holes and the worst: a 3ft mound with rocks that can take out your transmission. A smaller trucks light weight makes those problems more bearable, where in a larger truck youd get stuck in the mountains due to weight issues.

Love my Pro4-x, it’s a 19, it’s got the 4.0, a little less MPG. Bought it with 7k miles, now I have about 21k after about 2 years of ownership, there is a reason NISSAN stuck with the same platform for 15 years and then barley changed their motor, to make it even better. I always have said the Frontier is the average man’s Tacoma, the Frontier really gained some traction with the new 22 and put it back on the map, great video man

Great review! I own the truck and love it. I average 19 mpg, and really I drive 80-90 on the hwy so I’m sure it would be better if I slow down. It is annoying that only the drivers window is automatic, and the cameras are terrible as you mentioned. Just a pro tip? @g.donuts3551
@g.donuts3551 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexgarcia3900 Specific point? Yes, Titan makes up less than 1% of 1/2 ton truck sales. More a marketing failure on Nissan’s part last couple years. Before a couple years ago their interiors were also outdated. The Ridgeline? Great for what is(it’s not a truck), it’s a reskinned Pilot. But, if all a person needed was a light duty open bed soccer mom grocery getter, sure it’d be great for those applications.
@alexgarcia3900
@alexgarcia3900 2 жыл бұрын
@@g.donuts3551 the ridgeline can tow more, has more payload, can carry more it the bed than lots of midsize trucks and some base model full size pickups. So you're saying a base model f150 is not a pickup? The last generation frontier is not a pickup? The tacoma is not a pickup? Also the titan is a fail because the market is very competitive and the titan is ungly as hell by a lot. So why buy it? Also who cares about the ridgeline? I was trying to make a point that it's that bad that people would rather get a ridgeline over a titan lol.

I have 2018 Pro-4X. Yes it is designed for adventure off road but it also has to navigate the traffics of Los Angeles in this high-fuel cost post-Covid era. It is a truck that does everything well. My truck does about 17 MPG (with all the work-related equipment on board) which is rather low compared to the other trucks - but has good power and most of all, very good AC. My work colleague has 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport which we use for work - in comparison, Tacoma gets a bit better gas mileage, and has much better infotainment screes (older model has very old info system) but in every other aspects, Pro-4X is better in terms of power, comfort, and drivability. This new model is an excellent choice.

I love my '22 SV 4x4. I don't really care what's more up to date or objectively "better" now or 5 years from now because I plan on owning it a long time. If you're in the market, just go and drive options to find what you like. I enjoy how the Frontier drives with the hydraulic steering and smooth V6 power and the tech is good enough for me. I can see the appeal in other models but I just had a preference overall, some of yall are really toxic about really trivial things.

Great video, especially, the off-reading portion. I found the use of the 4L, locker, etc buttons more understandable in this vehicle than just about any of the others I’ve viewed w/all the optional driving modes. Maybe its me, maybe its hard to translate in video (despite yours & others best attempts), maybe this old school just works well, maybe even better than the tech….Nissan needs to improve the turn radius though. It’s so important on the trails to have a tight radius. Heck, in the urban jungles I navigate, the super tight radius of my 6th gen OB is phenomenal & required!

I disagree the older stuff works better. Many people fear change and simply do not understand. I live in Wyoming and I had a 12 Tacoma TRD off Road. I switched to a Ranger and the primary reason was the turbo. At elevation it does not lose power like a NA engine. Also the ten speed and torque is just awesome . I have no problem with Nissan or Toyota, but I will say there isn't a chance in hell I would ever go back to NA engine. I am legit getting 24 miles a gallon and the powertrain is just perfect. If I am paying 50K for a vehicle I don't want to buy a 1997 Nissan hardbody tech.

I’ve purchased a 2023 Pro 4x and love it. First Nissan truck but have owned several Ford (F150, Rangers) and Chevy. Being near Sundance Ski Resort at high elevation wasn’t a good place for you to test 0-60. I do have the side steps and got them because my wife likes them. She’s 5” 2in. They are fairly simple to remove using an Allen wrench… so I’m told…haven’t done it yet. So if you like the look of them or someone shorter could use them, it shouldn’t be a problem taking them off when needed for off road adventures. I also added 33” wheels which gives some additional clearance.

Solid 2-man crew/one man show video content. From my visits to Oregon mostly and some Washington State they go overboard there on stripping large sections of forest where it looks like a small nuclear weapon went off or a 5 mile wide F-5 tornado came through. Cameras: Better to have something that is not 100% than nothing. I don't remember if your 4R had a front camera system or not, but mine does not. And cresting a hill or even just going up a steep hill, you are blind. Not unlike old school wheeling days. But w/out a spotter, it is no fun. Steps: Worst thing in the world to put on a 4x4 truck of any make unless all it is going to do is drive on the paved roads. Proper sliders however, best 1st upgrade one should do if you plan on OR wheeling. I was impressed with the capabilities of this truck. Even w/out the rear locker, it managed to do something old school open diffs. would have struggled on. I had an 86.5 Nissan Hardbody SEV6 4x4 and as incredible as it was OR, there were times I desperately needed a rear locker. Off camber and I was SOL. Like you said, having a rear locker would have made that truck nearly unstoppable for the times. Which leads me to the final agreement/observation about turning radius, I tried out a 1987 extended cab of the same make and it was awful! I had exactly the same thoughts you did, feels like I was trying to do a u-turn on a single lane road in a long bed F350. And apparently, they have never remedied that problem. lol Thanks for this review. Was informative. I see I am not missing anything.

I own a 2018 frontier and to be honestly I like it better than the new one because there are a few things that the old does better in. One of those would be the ride comfort in the new truck is stiffer and the pedals are little too close, not to mention the seats are on the thin side. With that said everything else about the new frontier is pretty good. If only there was a company out there that can create an adapter plate for the transmission so I could stick the nine speed trans into my truck that would great.

I owned a 2018 Frontier SV 4x4. Really liked it but the engine had no comfort zone in the slow RPM range. It seemed the engine only existed to rev up to the next gear never happy to cruise in a comfortable steady speed. I attributed this to Manifold vacuum and cheap spark plugs from the factory. We needed a bigger truck to tow with and now own a Tundra. The 1000bls payload is amazing. This would be an excellent truck for a 3000lb camper. And all your stuff.

@@feetincheseighths agree, however in my case it would be very expensive to own in Hawaii because of fuel costs and registration fees is way higher than most states, I would love to own a full size truck but in the end it would be too impractical and hence why I went with a mid-size truck.

@@dellkajiwara5377 The new Frontier seems awesome by most reviews. It would not be cost effective to make any changes here for me. The ridiculous prices being asked by dealers are probably undercutting sales numbers expected by manufacturers. I'm still struggling with why a bank would loan on numbers way over MSRP. economist are expecting thousands of vehicles to be given up in repossession as owners struggle with the cost of inflation. People selling big ticket items and contractors feel like they are entitled to make their whole monthly budget on your sale alone. Arrogance and greed as got us were we are today and less about inflation. That's what happens when the government bails out car companies and home mortgage banks. They feel entitled and free to do whatever they want with pricing. It doesnt help when the United States has no working government.

First: great review as always, but I wish you would spend more time on how the back seats configure for a load. Those of us who want to put dogs or ice chests back there want to know. Also when giving EPA mileage could you also quickly add some competition ratings? "Frontier 4Pro-X gets XXX and the Toyota TRD Pro gets XXX. That context would be helpful. Second: Nissans have always been "old school." Which I like. But sometimes stuff gets left out that would be helpful. (Fully adjustable steering wheel for example). The idea is to go for value, but then add on a bunch of fluff for the dealer to mark up. Burt, you get it if want it. (BTW the side steps are removable, leaving just the rails.) In this case Nissan mostly succeeds. It looks great, but I wish you could get the the Pro4-X with a 6' bed and a smaller back storage area (no "crew cab")

@@johnnyreb9398 US buyers are obsessed with crew cab trucks. Nissan is simply offering what the vast majority of buyers want. If they offered the king cab pro4x, they'd probably only sell a few hundred a year, so it's just not worth it for them. Also, the Canadian market doesn't get 4x2 models, so Nissan is streamlining their offerings in all markets to cut cost. Nissan is still struggling financially and can't afford to do the things other more profitable brands can do. That's why the Frontier only got a heavy refresh instead of a full redesign.

As a Nissan Frontier owner buying a $48,000 Brand new Frontier is not worth it neither buying Tacoma or Ranger or Colorado or Ridgeline on the same price range. It's absolute nonsense! When I got my 2018 Nissan Frontier Pro4X Kingcab 4L V6 6 Speed Manual Transmission I only got it for $29,600 with taxes and everything all brand New zero Miles it's a steal! Nowadays midsize trucks cost 48 to 50 grand it's so crazy. Not worth it! Take my advice and recommendation folks. For 48 grand you folks might as well buy a fullsize pickup truck either a basic or mid level trim Toyota tundra, or Nissan Titan, Chevy Silverado 1500, Ford F-150 or GMC Sierra 1500 or 2500 with a big V8 engine. OR! Get a Ford Maverick it cost much less $18,000 or Toyota Tacoma 2.7L 4cylinder or GMC canyon with 4 cylinder engine. Otherwise you folks gotta think 🤔 1000 times before buying a pickup truck, think and consider "What the hell do I need a pickup truck for?" Do I really need it?? What do I do for a living?? Or Do I just wanted it for fun and to show the people how badass I am but don't really needed it?? Hey folks owning a pickup truck is a very serious thing just like owning an Electric vehicle this is not just like a walk in the park y'all.

Why does every single truck channel keep putting the Pro-4x against the TRD Pro when it’s meant to be a direct competitor to the TRD Off-Road and NOT the TRD Pro? That’s like comparing an F-14 to a P-52 and then gushing about how much better the F-14 is. It’s not an even match up!

Tacoma is good for low speed or off road. Just had a Tacoma TRD for a rental and trying to get that truck up to 80mph was a lot. And it didn't have the power for driving up and down mountain highways. And is uncomfortable for someone that is over 6'. I personally like the 4Runner more, but it needs to have the powertrain and transmission updated.

The reason why i brought up the TRD PRO is the Nissan Pro 4X actually sits in between these 2 from Toyota. Some options the Nissan has as standard only comes on the TRD Pro like 4 wheel disc brakes for 1 example. Anyway yeah in 2019 we bought a new crew cab Pro4X with Premium Pack for $31,400 the Toyota Off Road was $45k so yeah not the same price AT ALL.

@@eppyz the 2019 was cheaper because it was essentially the same truck from 2005. The tacoma had a redesign in 2016 with crawl control and multiterrain modes. Something the frontier still does not have. All trucks in the segment and even full size trucks and crossovers have. Consider this the pro4x costs the same as the trd offroad but offers less. At that price the trd offroad is the better value. I bought my top off the line trd offroad for 46k. The TRD pro does not have 4 wheel disc brakes. The only upgrade is the fox shocks, springs and now control arms. The TRD pro offroad modes are identical to the TRD offroad.

Honestly I love this, but there are two really simple things that drive me insane. It really should have a telescopic column, its a simple cheap thing that can have a big impact on comfort as well as safety. The other is the lack of a 4WD system with an auto/full time setting, very nice to have driving through a storm where road conditions are changing without having to move in and out of 2High-4High. That said if I was looking to buy in this segment at the moment this would be my choice.
