As a mechanic this is the truck to buy. Ask yourself this, when a turbo fails it’s going to need to be replaced. I guarantee you that you will have to replace extra exhaust stuff since bolts and studs will be snapping off. Going to replace the intercooler too. My favorite 3 trucks that I would buy: 2nd gen tundra(facelift model) 2nd gen titan(facelift model) 2nd&3rd gen frontier.

When anything fails, it’ll need to be replaced. And often it’s a good idea to replace associated hardware like nuts or bolts when doing so. Not sure what is behind the thoughts on intercooler though.

Turbo failure is very rare. It’s not the 1980s. There are actually more failure points on the V6 (50% more valves, 50% more plugs, twice the cams, twice the head gaskets, twice the exhaust manifolds, twice the valve cover gaskets, twice the heads). It is a direct injection only engine which will carbon up the valves. Toyota uses port and direct injection. The rear seats on all midsize pickups are useless for passengers. This is why I own a Taco with the long bed and access cab with utility package. I have the legendary 2.7 2TR-FE, but I’m not afraid of the new turbo engine which is superior to the V6.

People buying these fancy trucks now a days have money to burn - they are mega expensive. And those buying bottoms of the line are for work and in many cases don’t care about repairs as they’re a write off. So why buy this mediocre truck with (my opinion and sales numbers) which is hideous… this is not the best it’s not even the mid it’s basically a Nissan ridgeline

Its just that if you want to compete with the big brands, you have to stand out. Paying the same money for a simple (see "outdated") vehicle, its impossible to convince ppl to part with their money for "less" truck, especially for horsepower and torque. The bronco proved this against jeep.

This is a tortoise and the hare situation. The Tacoma is the hare. The Frontier, the Tortoise. The Tacoma has all the flashy goodies, but at the end of the day, the engineers overbaked it. The tortoise wins the race because it's just right. It keeps plodding along with its big V6 and not overcooked looks. I think it's a great looking truck. I wish Nissan would do three things to this truck: add ProPilot, adjust the steering feel (way too heavy), and add a panoramic sunroof. If those three things were addressed, it'd be in my driveway now.

Considering the direction Toyota is going and what Stellantis has done to Ram, at this point I'm almost shocked that Nissan hasn't brought back the Titan. They were not great selling trucks, but it was American built and at least still have a V8. If they did a Titan series that included the original and XD models with some proper HD models they'd have an opportunity to dog walk Ram at this point and eat away at the Tundra's numbers, granted they price them low. Both companies are suffering from not having the V8 under the hood of their 1/2 ton trucks. I'd go back to Cummins and get the 6.7L I6 for those larger trucks and fix the issues with the V8 (single turbo like the I6, better injector wiring, etc) and put it back into the XD with a tune for a bit more power. Cummins has the 2.8L I4 diesel, and that would be a nice option for the Frontier. Make it into an I6 for the regular Titan, and take the 5.6L gas V8 and up the displacement and power for larger trucks. They'd be set to go if they can get the emissions nailed down.

I will be buying a truck in the next couple months. Picturing 2024 pricing on the Frontier and Tacoma, I should be able to get a "base" Frontier Pro4X or Tacoma TRD Off-Road for around 45k or 46k. In theory. Or I can get an F-150 in STX trim with naturally aspirated 5.0 V8, 4x4, towing package, and a relatively plain interior, for 56k. For a truck that I plan to keep around 15 years I'm very tempted to spend the extra 10k and get the F-150 with a much bigger cab, more payload capability, and more towing capability, yet with about the same miles per gallon. Given this comparison I would not spend 50k on a mid-size.

The sound of the truck is good to as said in this video. This truck has what you need if you want a good reliable truck. Glad to see the Frontier getting the attention it’s deserved as of late. Have a feeling these will be on the road a lot longer than some of the competitors. Nissan did a solid job on the refresh, esp keeping the v6 power plant. $50k is a pretty big jump in price from the prior year with just an infotainment upgrade and bumper change. Had a 2012 Frontier SL Crew Cab, 4x2, long bed. That truck was utilitarian compared to the new Frontiers. But, it was bulletproof for 160K miles before trading it in on a 2024 SV Crew Cab, 4x4, long bed with convenience and technology packages, spray-in bed liner and utili-trak system. Fully loaded SV. Unless you're taking your Frontier out for more serious off-roading, save your money and get the SV trim. If you're reading this and considering a Frontier, here's my experience with my 2024. Engine and transmission are silky smooth, effortless with more than enough power and giddy up and go. The ride is smooth with a quiet interior. If your wife will be diving the truck, it won't let you back into anything. 😂 Automatically brakes. Great option. Knobs and buttons. Thankfully, analog speedo and tach. There are a lot of menu options, but those are set once and forget. 15K on my SV so far and expectedly, zero issues. Great truck. If you're in the market for a mid-size truck, don't overlook the Frontier. The V6 alone is reason enough to buy. Who wants a 4-banger in a truck?

Get base or close to it, if you’re spending top trim price just go get a mid grade competitor as it’s likely a better screwed together truck and definitely better specs. My mother in law just bought a 24 hardbody and I have fallen in love with it. I work on vehicles and dread modern vehicles coming to me even for simple maintenance. These trucks are comfortable and simple. I would absolutely buy one it I was in the market for a midsize truck.

I still say that the frontier pro4x is still a bang for your buck!! Considering that the pro4x competes with the trd pro/ trail Hunter or the ranger tremor both are in around 55-64 id take the frontier and save roughly 5000-15000 and then use that for upgrading it as you see for and add you can afford it! But i get it most buyers want it coming from the factory with everything already installed are the same ones (tommy!!) complaining OMG why does it cost so much! What i would get is a frontier sv with a rear locker get a 2.5 in lift kit ( around $750) upgrade the tires just a bit better($1200) and you can have a very capable off road truck without murdering your bank account!

The Frontier is a solid choice, and if I did not have my Gladiator, I would have purchased the Frontier well over Ford, Chevy or Taco.......JEEP BABY!! Since 1941......Great Video, Many Thanks.

My frontiers bought at graduation was one of the only vehicles you could still buy for under $10,000. That was the 1980’s. It was pretty much a stock truck with AC and the XL cab. If you could get a modern equivalent for 25k, that might be a good buy.

I just started looking into getting a truck again after driving a crosstrek for the last half a decade. The prices have skyrocketed so badly that honestly, I might just put money into my crosstrek and off road that instead lmao.

The only issue I have with the frontier is lack of a lift. 4x4 needs to came with a 1-1.5” lift. The pro4x needs to come with a 2-3” lift from the factory.

I used to work at Autozone on Saturdays delivering parts. I did it for 6 years. We had a few of the previous Frontiers. We would thrash on those trucks. They took a beating. Besides normal maintenance. They gave us no issues.

You are absolutely right about the price, sub 50k they got me! im sure there will some nice rebates offered (hopefully) but with the ranger offering the 2.7 ecoboost in the ranger under you really gotta think what means more to you, bang for buck or unwavering durability.

I drove the non Pro 4X Frontier, and the powertrain and ride were great, but the interior wasn't representative of a 40 k plus mid-size truck. The interior of your truck looks very different in a good way. I ended up buying a 2024 Tiran Pro 4X because of the size and great price being used with only 3800 miles.

The power is underrated with these. 280 lbs of torque might not sound like much but the 9 makes up for it. It has very low ratios for getting off the line. Even lower than the new 10 speeds in the ford's and chevys.
