If you film @ 50fps but upload @ 60fps the resulting video is jerky no matter what we do, if you film @ 50fps you have to also upload @ 50fps in order to ensure that the playback is smooth. It’s either that or start filming @ 60fps but I don’t see that happening because it would require all broadcast cameras to change from the European standard… which would be a lot more money and effort than uploading at the same frame rate it was filmed instead of 60fps.

@@DavidMadrigalMesa I know I know, it’s merely a suggestion, just pointing out that if they want the playback to be smooth and not jerky, either one of those two approaches will achieve that.

@@DavidMadrigalMesa A good example of what you get when following those guidelines is the IMSA Sports Car Championship races on IMSA’s channel, and yes it’s technically free but there ARE broadcast advertisements (which is perfectly fine).

@@DavidMadrigalMesa Also I have an ocular condition that makes me extremely sensitive to stuff like the jerking or lower frame rates / dropped frames. I always had a really difficult time watching when they were 24fps or 30fps (I have severe difficulty tracking quickly moving objects at lower frame rates). I’m very happy most of the various series organizers (FIA, SRO, IMSA, etc) have bumped it up to sports broadcast standards though, SO very much appreciated. 😊

What rubbish is it this year that half the race is taken up by pit lane interviews - at least give a split view while conducting your all-important interviews.

I think those interviews were always there in German streams in previous years, and the English video stream would just show other things in the meantime (a car in the pits, some more onboard, the finishing straight cam, etc). I hope it was a one-off and we can go back to the old format for the English stream. At times it did feel like the commentators were watching a different feed than we were. NLS, if you really want to do interviews on the English channel as well, please do them like they're done during the 24h: not a lot of them, and voice-only. Otherwise just don't even bother, we have a fantastic commentator duo anyway.
