Yea the lower mids seem to be lacking making things sound thin. Lower treble seems a bit abrasive as well. Thumpy loose upper bass response with sharp dropoff below midbass. 3 band eq isnt enough as you make things better and worse in other areas ie lowering the mids would help with that 1-2k excess but also make the lower mids sound more thin. Reducing those highs would help with that lower treble but would reduce that air and sparkle up at the top. WIth a 10 band and a subwoofer id probably be decent though. My next car is the GR 86 and I appreciate the test. At minimum I am adding the optional sub on the gr86. That way you can also take some stress off the door speakers and have more headroom and less distortion there.

Replace all the stock speakers with some entry Focal or Hertz, insulate the door panels with sound deadening mats, install a plug-and-play DSP amplifier and have it tuned properly, and if you have some extra $ get an under seat sub. You should have a pretty decent DIY sound system for under $1200. In many cases it sound even better than the factory premium setup, if you know what you are doing.
@vincentxtran2 жыл бұрын
Is it really that easy? Got any videos / can you send me the right direction of some one who has done this on their car?
@HeadTurnNet2 жыл бұрын
@@vincentxtran Well, yes and no, it's easy for one who knows what he is doing. The difficult and the most time-consuming part is to tune the DSP. The rest of it pretty much is just straight-forward labor. Keep in mind this approach is to upgrade your mediocre stock sound system to something 1 to 2 level up, which will be on par, if not better than the factory premium system. 1) Better speakers itself will only slightly improve your listening experience, you may hear crispier highs and a little tighter mid-bass, but better speakers usually require more power to truly make them shine. The DSP with integrated amps will offer better power (usually 45-70W rms per channel vs. 10-15W on stock head unit). 2) Sound deadening mats will help door woofers to deliver tighter mid-bass. It will also help reducing a little bit of exterior noise (if you only do that on your doors). 3) The DSP amp itself is very easy to install, as many DSP amps nowadays has direct-plug-in wiring kit to your stock head unit, that you don't even need to cut a single wire! The hard part, however, is the tuning process. The main objective of installing a DSP is to adjust time alignment on each individual speaker, so that your ears feel like the sound stage is coming right in front of you, right behind the windshield, as if you are sitting in a concert hall, with every instrument playing at the correct position and vocal at the center. This requires a lot of skills and experience. Also as most DSP has 31-band equalizer, you can tune each speaker's frequency response according to your preference. 4) Under Seat Power Subwoofer: This kind of sub is not intended to rock your neighbors or rattle your windows like the big o 1000W 12" sub in the trunk. Its' mere purpose is to supplement the lack of lower-frequency (60-120Hz ) bass on most 5.25 - 6.5" speakers. With the help of the DSP's RCA outputs, you can conveniently plug the sub to the DSP without complicated speaker wiring. All you need is just wire the power to the battery, and connect an RCA cable between the sub and the DSP amp. I don't have any specific examples to show you unfortunately, although I did it on my SUV with exactly these setups and the result is phenomenal! But if you go ahead and use keywords like "DSP amplifier installation car stereo" there should be some videos showing you how to work on it. Feel free to bring up more for discussions though.

Great and helpful video. Will you be also planning a comparison between the 6 speakers and 8 speakers system. According to Toyota, it "should" be an improvement, however I think a comparison between the two would help in finding differences, if there are 😀

I'm from Sweden and I know I should focus on the sound but I keep getting distracted by how americans drive. You have more than two lanes in many parts of the US and still people are hogging the left lane, I would get so frustrated driving there
@joelau34042 жыл бұрын
Indeed. Many Americans aren’t taught how to drive properly or any traffic etiquette. Ironically, the right lane is in many cases the fastest lane because they avoid it like a plaque. They are somehow under the impression that the right lane is just for merging in and out of the highway, and the “cruising lane” is the second lane, which doesn’t make sense at all.
