Fun fact: it actually doesnt have the standard subaru CVT. It has a planetary gearset “eCVT” that was taken from the toyota prius. To me, that is actually a positive, as that means it does not have any of the (theoretical) concerns about the standard CVT’s belt slipping or failing.

Those are pretty bulletproof apart from the 1st and 2nd gen priuses. Those tend to burn though their electric motors at 200-250k kms.

This was kind of a "two way street" between Toyota and Subaru. Toyota gave Subaru their hybrid tech while Toyota got AWD & VCT tech plus the joint development of the BRZ/ GT86 from Subaru.

And they’re doing it again with the upcoming Crosstrek HEV (already released in Japan).

Dang didn't know they made these! As much as I don't like crossovers/SUVs for a personal driver, this would be tempting for me. That blue ext, stitching and interior accents are sharp. Appreciate the video Zack!

I've seen a few Crosstrek PHEVs. They're rare and have some compromises but seem like good commuters anyway. I always liked that PHEV-exclusive blue. It would be nice if Subaru would work with Toyota again to get into the regular hybrid game.

They made them. I wanted one. They are still pretty expensive compared to normal Crosstrek too
@tails3003 күн бұрын
There’s a new Crosstrek HEV coming with an updated hybrid system from Toyota if you decide to wait. It’s not going to be a plug in though.

The acceleration isn't impressive? Well, DUH! You recently posted a review of a 1969 Super Bee. As I recall, you were so impressed with the acceleration of that vehicle that you let the owner open it up for you (And I don't blame you one bit).

148hp is no longer acceptable in 2024. We are in a time where your cheap economy cars (Mazda 3 for example) now have 200hp in their base trim.

If Subaru elaborated on the Bz4x platform and made the solterra a hybrid with a D4S flat four powertrain with Toyotas battery technology it would sell!!!

As far as I remember, the hybrid side including the battery are all Toyota parts, with the battery even just being a Prius Prime battery part.

I like the Crosstreks. Never knew they had a hybrid. Love the color and color scheme on this one. But I would take a regular one over the hybrid cause I need cargo capacity. 😊

We also had these in Canada. I'm bummed the new Crosstrek hybrid won't be a PHEV.

That's definitely not dog crate friendly. Too bad... I like the idea of a hybrid crosstrek without Subaru's regular CVT.

Yeah, packaging is gonna be tight with everything that has to go into the car. No wonder Toyota chose to make eAWD systems with the rear axles powered by electronically.

148hp? Nah, we can't be doing that in 2024.

@r5LgxTbQ8 күн бұрын
@Dankcatvacs 35-45 mpg depending on the conditions. pretty peppy 0-30, manageable in suburban areas but on the highway it really needs the gas on or it feels unsafe

More stuff to break ontop of a death sentence (CVT) Can't they just make a normal car with a manual, maybe even an auto, and a NA engine anymore?
@tails3003 күн бұрын
This car doesn’t have a traditional CVT, it has an eCVT. This drive train isn’t even a transmission in the tradition sense and makes this hybrid Crosstrek more reliable than its ICE counterparts. I’m not going to explain how it works though, I’ll let you research how they work it’ll be informative for you too.

I saw one in mi college a few days ago in that same colour. Too bad that they aren't really worth it, Teslas are better EVs and Mitsubishi's are a better value for a PHEV.
