2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness Review - Better Than New??

Like the look of this generation more. It’s distinctive, whereas the new one looks like a lowered last gen Ford Explorer. The near universal death of physical knobs and buttons is also annoying - especially with outdoor oriented vehicles, whose users might be wearing glovers, dirty hands, that sort of thing.

The Subaru Forester is the perfect do-everything vehicle to for me. They are roomie, comfortable, decent on mpg, and best of all, super easy to work on.

Thanks, Zach! Neat to see Gen 1 to more current Foresters recently! So funny, thought the Forester Wilderness got the 2.4L turbo like the Outback Wilderness. I love the fuel efficiency of the basic 2.5L with CVT (I LOVE me a stick shift, but more into saving fuel and emissions). I'm looking at a used 2017-2018 Forester, but now this new knowledge is making the think twice. An SUV with extra clearance, skid plates, etc without a big hit at the pumps. Hmmmm! Thanks Subaru for making such amazing, no NS and practical cars!

The Wilderness is the best trim. Love my Crosstrek Wilderness. The tires are just amazing

You can def still buy these brand new. I just bought one. In fact Subaru dealers are discounting them and Subaru is offering 1.9% financing for 72 months.

@@iko3 35k before TTL with option package 22 + wilderness package. You should try using the costco automotive program to find a dealer and then shop it around to other dealers who are also in the program.

Forester if you want tons of headroom, Outback for every other dimension

Having driven both and currently owning an Outback, it depends. The Forester is more upright and feels airier because of the massive windows. The Outback is lower and longer. I can fit my bike completely in my Outback whereas with the Forester I'd have to take off the front wheel. If I carried tall stuff, I'd probably prefer the Forester. Other things, the Forester is faster and handles better because it's lighter with a shorter wheelbase. It has more wind noise and engine noise. The Outback rides softer because it has a longer wheelbase and is heavier. The 2.5L in the Outback is slow but adequate. The Outback has better insulation and better materials. For the most part I don't mind having everything on the touchscreen because I leave the climate control on auto.
