Subaru's current range with the XV / Forester / Outback are very underrated here in SA. We love our mountain passes, national parks, but also want family cars that are safe, and nice to drive on our open roads, and in city traffic. The three mentioned models give you all that in spades. Nice review Ciro.

@lungimgaga71792 жыл бұрын
@@honeybadger1656 but still even if they were cheap, South Africans will tell you of shape and looks which is what we buy. No matter how much Subaru can convince us. South Africans will never buy into that. Many good brands have left South Africa because they were not supported. I still don't know what Suzuki did to get black township people, perhaps it the Uber revolution.
@honeybadger16562 жыл бұрын
@@lungimgaga7179 Suzuki and Renault provide good affordable and very fuel economic vehicles. The current state of South Africa is making car buyers rethink their choices. We as South Africans are very loyal to certain brands like Ford, Merc and BMW. If you can find one, take a look at a 2015 CAR Mag and look at these manufacturers prices. Yes there has been inflation,.but, currently the prices are way over the inflation rate. Ford still offers the ecosport with a ridiculously small screen while being priced over 320k! Merc charges people for every accessory, and doesn't even have a car in the 400k bracket. Manufacturers like Renault, Suzuki, Haval and now Chery are providing affordable and fuel economic vehicles that already have tons of accessories. Toyota also needs to up its game and start providing cheaper cars.

I've just got the Outback Touring in Australia. The only difference with our Australian Touring model is it has heated and ventilated front seats (Driver side also has adjustable leg bolster), and the rear seats are also heated. I've had mine for a week and already driven over 1300km in it. It is by far the most comfortable car I have ever driven. Its perfect in the city, as not only is it comfortable and easy to drive, BUT the vision from inside the car is amazing (You really dont have any bad blind spots). This makes reversing into trafiic, or turn through blind corners so easy to see what is ahead or behind you. I drive 50,000km per year and having the adaptive cruise control with lane keep just makes the highway stuff so enjoyable, its such stress free driving. And to top it off, this car is wickedly good in the rough and muddy stuff. I particularly got this car, because not only is it comfortable and easy to drive, but the other two selling points for me is the amount of room in the car and it's offraod capabilities. I love photography and wanted a car that could take me to places other cars couldnt get me to, plus I wanted a car that I could also sleep in overnight. In the Outback I can lay the back seats down and I have approx 1.8m from the back of the car to the back of the front seats, so there is room for me to sleep inside the vehicle (Here's my set up kzbin.info/www/bejne/epLYZaeYj52CldE ) And the cherry on top is the All Wheel Drive with X-Mode. This has already saved me once from a difficult situation. I was driving down some random dirt roads looking for a good location to take photos, and found one narrow dirt road that headed down towards a lake. When I got to the end of the dirt road, it turned it to a muddy marsh area. I put the Outback into X-Mode with Deep Snow/Mud mode activated, and it allowed me to get the Outback turned around in this slippery mud. It handled it easily actually with mud flicking up everywhere. So all in all, my first impressions are its a super easy car to drive with it's fantastic vision, its an incredibly comfortable drive with the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in and oodles of room (which is great on long trips). All the controls are easy to find and within easy reach, and the Outback can take me places where other cars cant. It's a vehicle I would highly recommend for people to look at if they are in the market for a new car with good room and with a comfortable ride.

Loved the review Ciro. All round a fantastic car. As the owner of a 2013 XT with CVT I have grown to respect the gearbox. Agree with you on changing your driving style a bit. My fuel consumption indicator agrees. Personally what I feel is missing is the 2.4T XT Outback model in South Africa. Would love to see that in the Forester too like every other Subie petrol head in the world. I think the Outback is a fantastic car. I believe the 2.0 Diesel Outback a few years ago won the best tow vehicle under R500K against tough competitors like the Fortuner. The only thing I would change (apart from adding the 2.4T) is to give it a bit more of an off road stance like the Forester to shake the station wagon feel. Probably the last or close to the last of this generation of Boxer petrol motors before the electric revolution....

Great review, one thing to note though. The Outback is not a SUV it belongs to a segment which can only be described as a lifted wagon/estate. The only thing it can be compared with is a Volvo CrossCountry or Audi allroad and those cost an arm and a leg. And a kidney. X3 or RAV4 is a competition for the Forester. The Outback is quite unique vehicle.

What a great review. And after I had look at the car at a Dealer I can identify with your views. I am a Subaru fan and owner from 2000. Never had an Outback, but I have ordered my one for early next year. Perfect for the SA roads as I am travelling a lot… the spare wheel and nice ride quality on all our very poor road surfaces are the selling points and the modern tech and connectivity, compared to some big and very popular SUV’s. And its big enough and well priced. And you wont know what I am getting rid off, a fairly new Prado which frustrates me a lot.

Our 2022 Outback with 8K miles had the windshield spontaneously crack across the drivers line of sight without a rock chip or any damage. We got a bill for 1400$ even though we have the windshield warranty and it wasn't a damaged windscreen. After researching the issue online and with friends, I have come to the conclusion that ours cracked because of the defective black strips that serves as the defroster. It is an issue with glass that is too thin, and the Subaru windshield is too thin. There needs to be a larger class action suite for the newer cars with Eyesight windshields. This is the last Subaru I or my family will ever buy, based on the crappy customer service at our dealership.
