If the brake lights lit up on the center screen of a Rolls Royce, you'd call it 'attention to detail.'

@kevinjohnson7142
@kevinjohnson7142 4 жыл бұрын
@@CorkyBravo I agree. The adaptive cruise uses a lot of engine braking when possible, so the brakes on the display are there to tell you when it's actually using the brakes. If you turn the adaptive cruise control fully off then the car doesn't show up in the display at all.

Agreed as an Outback owner he didn't quite get the whole package on why this vehicle is EVERYWHERE and I mean I'd believe they gave the car out at the DMV here in Colorado! You can adjust the tires on this outback and there is nothing it can't do, just about. Off road it does much much better than people want to believe! I rescued by brother in law on a closed/snow-packed trail in the mountains! I mean REALLY I was able to get to a jacked up F-150 Z74 or something like that. I even had guys on 4-wheelers remarking....wait you made it out here in THAT?! On jeep trails you get a LOT of looks when an outback comes strolling by but it does the job. Now there are places it cannot go! (Blackbear pass is an example) BUT it can do 99% of what I need it to and I have driven in a blizzard her w 65mph winds and 2in a min accumulation. Car handles FINE!!

@@timfoote6919 I agree with everything you've said related to their prevalence in CO. And the low cool factor is a large indicator that Doug does not spend much time around outdoor enthusiasts (hikers, mountain bikers, skiers, etc.) Among those people (myself included) this car is Gold. I'd give it a 10/10 cool factor if it came in a manual option, but without a manual I can't be fully on board so I'll give it a 7/10. Still, I consider this a great, very cool car with bonus points over many of its competitors for the balance of off road capability, fuel economy, and its longer, wagon shape makes it much better for sleeping in.

That's funny, I literally just got an XC60 after planning to get a 2020 Touring XT for over 10 months. Volvo was a bit more in cost but the luxury features beat the Outback handedly. Gas milage is around the same but the real clincher was that infotainment system. It's just garbage on the Outback, which i had overnight, sub-menu after sub-menu and laggy response. The 'Sensus' system or whatever Volvo calls it is one of the better and most-responsive systems I've ever seen. I know Geely owns them but they're still Swedish and seem to be mostly left alone, they're a lot more luxurious than they were just a few years ago and seem able competitors with the German brands to me!

Doug, I like watching your videos, but you missed some big things with this one. First, the car you had was the Onyx Edition which as others have mentioned have a dual X Mode in it. also you didn't highlight the Water resistant interior that is on that edition. I am assuming it was because you bounced back and forth between two different trim levels. Another thing you missed was the roof rack and rails. You have to pay a premium on most vehicles to get the rails and the outback tucks them away on the rack so they are there when you need them. We just lost our Honda Odyssey minivan and had to make the choice, now the kids are gone, do we become part of the SUV crowd. Well the outback fit the bill, we like wagon's /minivans and SUVs to us felt like trucks so this was a great fit. Look forward to watching more videos.

That way you know people behind you can see your brake lights if adaptive cruise is slowing you down. If its very very slowly decreasing your speed the brake lights aren’t turned on. Also the mirror lights are door handle/puddle lights and work extremely well! They automatically turn on when you get close and it senses the key. Plus the rear seats recline!

@@4RT1LL3RY We have a 2019 outback. From what I understand, the 2020 infotainment system adds another processor. That being said, there are a significant number of things wrong with it. I assume all to be still true. Can't change volume after start for about 10 sec, only one USB device can be active on the system (ie if you have mass storage and a phone plugged in, one will kick the other off), difference in input levels, failure to remember last input upon restart and on and on and on! I love Subaru but seriously WTF!!! my pioneer NEX 7000 from 5-6 years ago runs circles are this junk! I wish there was a aftermarket headunit that would replace it....

Doug, your critical insights are valuable to someone considering his first Outback! I'm going to need an extended test drive to see if the laggy touch screen functions are minor annoyances or deal breakers (I have heard that Subaru may have a software update in January 2020j. It is strange that its front camera does not come on automatically, as it does in my 2018 Camry XSE when it senses proximity to forward objects. The lack of a birds-eye camera is a miss, also. Again, thanks for pointing out this stuff and not being a shill, Doug!

The brake lights on the dash screen is pretty useful. When my car is slowing down in adaptive cruise control it lets me know if it's doing it's CVT equivalent of down braking or using actual brakes. It's nice because it lets me know if I'm showing my brake lights to a car behind me vs just slowing down. It's good for when I have to make a tight merge and adaptive cruise is on. The brake lights in the dash is even on my 2016 Ouback. It's funny though because in 2016 the picture of the car is a Subaru legacy regardless if you have a Legacy or an Outback.

@T R Outbacks are worth their reputation. There are lots of places in CO where you see the Pilots and Rav4s parked miles below the official trailheads but at the top you see pickups, Jeeps, and Subies. I put a 2" lift kit on mine and I've made it up Imogene Pass where 4runners and Wranglers reign, and at the same time I can get 30mpg on my daily work commute with space to haul stuff in the back. Completely was worth the purchase.

J Thorsson. I’m failing to see how SUVs can’t properly off-road? Particularly since my 4Runner has been a beast and utterly reliable in everything I’ve thrown at it (40,000 miles on logging roads, seasonal roads, off-road, etc after driving to worksites).... I can see your comment making more sense if you were referring to crossovers and the like, but a body on frame SUV is just as capable off-road as any pickup of the same model year. Plus, you can sleep in the cab with your gear, dogs, etc.

If you want to drive it and have fun, find some snow. The first winter in my Outback in Indiana, and I enjoyed watching everyone else slide around white knuckled. I watched the neighbor fighting for an hour getting out of the driveway. I backed up, hit ice and spun. When back forward, added power, and pulled out and went to work. Watching him rest on his shovel as I drove by. Best car I ever bought. Good gas on the highway when I don't need AWD. And AWD when I need it, with the ground clearance.

Outback actually has more at 8.7"; current RAV4 is 8.4". I've had fwd family sedans with 6" clearance on snow tires and all seasons up mountain roads in blizzards; anything more is really not needed; unless you are actually offroading or very rural, if you get stuck, it's your fault.

The approach lights in the mirror light up as you walk up to the vehicle when you have the fob in your pocket. Additionally it lights up the door and the ground.
