2022 Success? Resolving to make a handspun hand dyed sweater

We're all familiar with the tradition of making a resolution for the brand new year that is moments away. Have you ever considered making a crafting specific New Year's resolution though? In this video, I give you a recap of my 2022 resolutions and what I'm planning to do for my 2023 resolutions. Hand dyeing handspun yarn for a custom knit sweater was challenging, but I think the difficulties I experienced gave me good reasons to focus on improving how I allow others, and the world, to treat me.

Congratulations! This is my goal someday...spin enough for a sweater, dye it, and knit the sweater. I understand the anxiety of dying handspun. You have many hours invested in that spinning!!

You may want to look at what Andrea Mowry is doing with her handspinning and her knitting designs. She is doing another Spin It To Knit It .....the current Knit Along is using her Weekender sweater pattern and people are first designing and spinning their own yarn for it. She does a Friday KZbin video called "I'll Knit if I Want To" where she has talked a lot about this project and shown her own work and ideas and frustrations with creating her own yarn specifically for this pattern. You may want to check this out. Today she also showed her new spinning journaling method and how she does this. I hope these suggestions will be helpful.

I love the color of the yarn that you died, it's absolutely stunning heathered navy. I don't really understand the function of the cables though as when you stood sideways the back cables start smack dab in the center of your bust line which is the very widest part of the chest.

Thank you! I also think the yarn turned out well. I'll explain a bit more about the cable block in the pattern recipe notes, but I started the setup around the shoulder blades but didn't start the cable twists until I was lower than the widest part of my bust. The twists are where the knitting gets pulled in so I aimed for that effect to begin around my underbust line. If I had had help with back measurements, I could have shifted the block slightly, but the knitting in this case was very forgiving. I often have to take my own measurements (as I suspect many other crafters do too!), so I think I showed off how flexible this structural block is. My mom loves eagles (she's a wildlife photographer) so she'd enjoy your profile picture. 😉
