The Toyota Camry has long held a reputation for offering excellent comfort, refinement and reliability, as well as a rather aged fanbase. But as these customers have either expired or moved on to SUVs, Toyota has realised that the Camry has untapped potential in a younger, more energetic audience and has retooled their big family saloon to match.
Now powered by a Dynamic Force 2.5-litre engine along with a host of other refinements, does the Camry have what it takes to not only defend its title as Malaysia's #1 D-segment saloon, but also fend off competition from Honda, Volkswagen, Hyundai and Mazda?

I love my Camry.....I don't get the comments on performance.....who buys a Camry expecting a sports car? It has great pickup when you need it....looks good and gets great mileage......A to B is why anyone buys a Camry....

Going to book mine. Waiting period is 1 year but I rather wait for this than accord or mazda 6. Accord NVH is no different than a standard proton or perodua.

How do you compare this to Mazda 6 that you reviewed earlier? Which one you prefer?
@MalaysianMotoring
@MalaysianMotoring Жыл бұрын
The Mazda 6 is more dynamic, and if you want to stand out that's the car you want to look at. However for everyone else who would want greater fuel economy, better driver assistance systems, and arguably a more refined and cossetting ride, the Camry is the new standard bearer in the segment.

Sales man told me need 1 year to get this car :( I find the accerlation is very very slow, and the pedal doesn't move the car so much in the beginning? Am I correct on my feeling? I thought it's 2.5 engine

How would you compare this against the Passat ?
@MalaysianMotoring
@MalaysianMotoring Жыл бұрын
Compared to the Passat R-Line it isn't as powerful, and it definitely isn't as pointed a drivers' car. But the Camry enjoys a sense of fluidity in its dynamics, and the predictability of the N/A engine is quite a treat compared to turbocharged competitors. Our Editor would prefer this over a Passat.

Hey, nothing wrong with Uncle Cars. :) But honestly would positioning the Camry based on driving experience garner more sales? I would expect that the Camry's typical clientele would not care too much about the drive. ;)
@MalaysianMotoring
@MalaysianMotoring Жыл бұрын
They're opening up to a different clientbase. Their traditional clientele have moved into SUVs like the Corolla Cross. So this has to appeal to people who are, in our current climate, still looking at saloons. So this seems like an intelligent repositioning.

Didn't you test drive it before you bought it? Still has a power advantage over the Accord. And a better reliability & aftersales service rating...

@Driving_Somewhere Жыл бұрын
Agree...Extremely rough sounding engine...One of the roughest in the history of Camry. Do not buy if you drive spiritedly and like to full throttle for fun. Sounds ok below 3000 rpm but beyond that . . . it's horrible and painful to listen to. Even diesel Hilux don't sound so bad. Toyota's 8 speed is very over-rated always hunting gears and manual mode is rough and slow vs ZF 8 speed in the 10 year old BMW 5 series F10. But this really really saves fuel and the car looks good.
@nigelchong9160

@@Driving_Somewhere dude no offense first of all people who buys camry isn't looking to have spirited drives. We have our weekend car for that. I usually take my camry for work because it is comfortable. Second, you are comparing it with a BMW 5 series. Japanese and continental cars are two very different cars in terms of tech and characteristics. The 8 speed is meant for comfort. Who tf cares if it sounds bad and painful to listen to. It is meant for comfort driving.
@Driving_Somewhere
@Driving_Somewhere Жыл бұрын
@@nigelchong9160 No offense taken. Yes don't buy if you are a spirited driver. As the gruff engine sound / roughness at higher rpms is quite unacceptable to me. Gearbox also abit jerky and slow to downshift vs 12 year old BMW F10 ZF 8 speed. Other than that it's a comfortable car indeed. All the best.

The only brands that currently have sufficient ready-stock are for models nobody wants. :) The shortage of parts, chips and labour have affected the automotive industry equally.
