The Toyota Corolla is one of the best-selling cars of all time, and over the years, #Toyota has tried to expand its reach by offering variations on that traditional 4-door sedan Corolla shape that we’ve all come to know. Their latest attempt to shake things up is this #CorollaCross utility. So, let’s see what this Corolla-flavored SUV can bring to a very crowded small utility segment. #ToyotaCorolla

It never ceases to amaze me when I stop to think how I've been listening to John Davis' mellifluous voice reviewing cars for 40 years! The automotive world now is so different from what it was when John started, yet he keeps soldiering on taking it all in his stride and doing a great job reviewing cars; may he continue for many more years to come.

Just like the RAV4, Camry and Highlander, the powertrain to get is the hybrid. Toyota has worked so hard to perfect this system over the years, it’s really the better choice for most, if not everyone in these segments.

i have the corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 49 MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG.

I got turned on to the Corolla Cross when they first made the announcement that it was coming. Toyota quality, I believed, would more than outweigh that typical "avoid brand new car designs because they haven't worked out all the bugs yet." I started comparing it with the Subaru Crosstrek Sport and thought it was going to be a tough decision. Unfortunately, no matter how many websites showed this vehicle being in stock, I could never get my hands on one until the local auto show, by which point I had bought a RAV4 XLE instead. The Crosstreks had a long waiting list and these Corolla Crosses seemed to be as rare as can be so I had to jump on the first RAV4 I could find. The whole supply chain issue is going to hurt new entries like this no matter how good they are as I'm sure there are a lot of people like me that just had to settle for the next best option available at the time.
@CalvinHikes
@CalvinHikes 2 жыл бұрын
The whole supply chain thing has been frustrating for a lot of different reasons! Especially in the automotive world as you well know. You can't just see a car you want and then go buy it.

I was lucky to get one since a dealer in upstate NY ordered 12 of them early on. Took me 45 min to think about it, 10 were sold, so I took the Blue one that was left. The car is great, but I would love to upgrade to a RAV4 when the lease will be up. I want an 8-speed transmission as opposed to CVT, and stronger engine. I would like to note that the rear seats do not recline, I had 2 separate complaints from passengers about it, it would be a nice feature to have. I am curious to find out how the RAV4 drives? you like the ride? Does it feel like it moves easily? People complain about the Corolla Cross Engine that it is too weak, I find it slow to accelerate but while you are rolling at 30 MPH plus it moves nicely but still probably does not match the Rav 4 power to weight ratio.
@tomlester5291
@tomlester5291 2 жыл бұрын
@@gregashlag8790 I conveyed this same thing on another YT video and a woman replied that she got lucky very early on like you did but actually had to travel from NY as well to the dealership right by my house! Crazy car buying times, for sure. As far as the RAV4 goes, it's been great and I really don't have any regrets about not being able to nail down either the Corolla Cross or the Subaru Crosstrek. The increased room doesn't come at a cost surprisingly as I average almost 31 MPGH in mixed/mostly non highway driving. That 8 speed/2.5 liter powertrain is VERY smooth and gives plenty of power with no concerns over compexity of turbos and CVTs and their associated issue(s). The ride is very smooth. I have an XLE and although I admit I would've liked a moonroof, I cna't complain about ending up with this vehicle. Prior to the pandemic, I was an Operations Manager for Hertz so I had a chance to test drive lots of different cars and the this new gen RAV really stuck out as a perfect mix of everything. I'd definitely recommend one.

Really skeptic about Toyota's advertised 169hp with their 2.0 engine. Acceleration is weak from their sedan to this crossover. Not reflecting what is expected from 169 horses.
@oldtwinsna8347
@oldtwinsna8347 2 жыл бұрын
They were testing the top trim which weighs in at a hefty 3325 lbs. That gives it a 19.7 lbs/hp ratio. Combine with a sluggish off the line CVT configuration and the acceleration figures are consistent with the power rating. More so, there is only 151 lb-ft of torque @ 4400 rpm so this is quite a bit of workout for the 2.0 engine. An enlarged 2.4 engine would have done wonders here but dramatically reduce gas mileage. A turbo would've raised the price too much.

Expect an absolutely NUTTY 55 mpg Yaris Cross to round out their small CUV lineup as soon as production can be ramped up for a model that is RABIDLY popular overseas. 😉 Getting back to the Cross, the newly revealed Hybrid makes the more spacious, powerful and fuel efficient RAV4 Hybrid look better and better.

Test drive this, then test drive the car this is trying to copy - the Subaru Crosstrek. You find it easy to determine which car is better for snow and which is a pretender. The power on this dates back to the wonderful 1970s acceleration figures. Added: even worse, a tester now took this car and the Subaru Crosstrek off road and in the snow - the the Toyota failed massively. It is truly a pretender, not a good car for snow or off road. See here: 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross vs Subaru Crosstrek AWD Off-Road and Snow - KZbin

@@Flying-Fox19 I dare you try that on the Meritt Parkway in CT with a 500 foot ramp. You will get rear ended and totaled trying to do that. @@Buc_Stops_Here Clearly there is a problem with speed demons not yielding to incoming vehicles. Why would you rear end someone? Now that idiot has to drive a rental from insurance, repair or find another car and his/her premiums goes up. All he/she had to do was slow down and yield. This person could be changed with recklessness/death of others with vehicle for not slowing to let others into hwy. If many drivers know that section of hwy has a short ramp then do the needful. A lot of idiots like I said.

I leased LE AWD, Sticker price was $32,900 as dealer using current supply issues to raise the price so with current pricing there is no good value. I moved from a 1.6 Liter Kia Soul, so the car does not seem slow to me. The ride is very good, visibility is great, feels much larger than it actually is. Easy to get in and out. I have no problem merging into highway traffic, you just have to step on it a bit, the biggest problem is the drivers with BMW X5 or Porche Meccan that think that merging into highway at 4o MPH is safe or maybe 400 BHP is not enough to merge, or better yet gas got to expensive for them so they coast into the highway impeding traffic. This car is not fast but has a good of pull from 40 to 105 plenty for every day use, if I would want a harsh ride an sporty feel I would get the Kona N. I am getting 34 to 36 MPG consistently at 55 MPH, 30 MPG around town. Just great all around car. And no I could not keep in traffic playing with a new BMW M4 last week, I just did not have enough grunt to follow him when he floored it! Lol

@gregashlag8790 2 жыл бұрын
@@scottvickery2057 Yes there is no end to how greedy they are. I think that all the car reviews that we are seeing listing the prices are irrelevant right now. A Corollas Cross is great value at $27k, a little less at $33k, I really wanted an Accord LX, but after sitting with the dealer for 3 hours here in NJ, I gave up, they wanted $4800 Down and $505 a month to lease it, or $39,000 to buy it on a car with a sticker price of $26,900! So they are exploiting the market now, but what goes around comes around. Let's just wait and see what the prices will look like in a year from now. I would like to upgrade to the Rav4 AWD because of it's 8 speed as opposed to CVT but I saw the price on those and they are even crazier!
