I really wish there was a way to make it so you never had to press the stop stop start button, so basically shut it off for forever in that when the ingition is restarted , that function wont come back on. Pressing that button every time while easy enough is a pain in the rear. I wonder how these CVT's will hold up.

I must say. Every review said the Cross was sluggish, and although it is no speedster I frankly LOVE my Corolla Cross! I have been teaching my friend how to drive in his Mazda cx-30 which has amazing pickup as well as I've tried other more zippy cars like the Civic, and honestly I never thought I would.think this way, but the Ride in my Cross is so much nicer. I love the pick-up on other vehicles, but after driving a 4.5 hour road trip to NY, my back didn't hurt, I didn't feel exhausted from feeling the road all day. Honestly the car has forced me to Lower my speed closer to the speed limit, I feel like a safer driver, and it is a comfortable ride. Plus, the car may not be "zippy" but it is more than sufficient for highways. If you were on The 5 in LA, okay, I get the issue. But honestly my car did fine in Boston, Manchester NH, all major highways in New England and NY and it drove great!

I’ve had my Corolla cross for 6 months now and it’s an excellent car, high quality, and comfortable. I disagree with your opinion that the engine is hopelessly slow. I find I have no problem around town, it’s adequate. As for highway, I also have had no issues with merging or passing. I know this is subjective. But just wanted to give you my two cents owning this car for 6 months and used in various situations.

Test drove many subcompacts before choosing the Cross. For the price, quality, horsepower, cargo space, gas mileage, comfort and ride - it was the clear winner. Test drove 2 times before deciding on the LE AWD. I love this car. Was hoping for years for Toyota to come up with something smaller than the Rav4 for city driving. I don’t find it slow at all. I would say it is perfect for a good majority of people. If you are an aggressive driver, this may not be car for you. Even my husband, who drives fast, finds it just fine. He decided to push it during our test drives and had no problem merging or keeping up on highway traffic. He also tried throwing it into manual and we zipped along no problem. The power of the engine is the only thing that's preventing me from buying one. Thank you so much for doing a review of this model! Have been curious. So glad it’s back to basics. I prefer the older model RAV4 and Highlander. Don’t like the newer models AT ALL. I OPTED FOR 2018 Outback instead of RAV4. I’m looking at Corolla Cross to replace my Outback. Agree lack of zip is a drawback but I don’t cover much distance. The hybrid version would be PERFECT. We bought one, an FWD LE. I like it overall, but not a big fan of the headrests. I wish the seat bottom on the driver seat would move up & down because I like to sit higher up when driving. And from what I've seen, the muffler looks a bit restrictive, a big barbecue pit type muffler. I ponder the idea of replacing this one with a freer flowing muffler to maybe help it "get up and go" more, but then again, I'm not looking for any louder exhaust system noise & I'm not about to eff with a brand new car under warranty. But it sure is a hell of a lot better than that 2015 Chevy Traverse we got rid of.

I really like the Corolla Cross. I really the exterior styling, was glad to see it didn't have the obnoxious grille that Toyota has seem to be stuck on for the last few years on the sedans. Driving one feels like a bigger Corolla. Very nice ride and quiet and solid feeling. It's a good around-town vehicle. It's definitely pokey slow on open roads and highways. I've never liked any version of the Corolla CVT and this is no exception. I can understand Toyota's logic behind using the Corolla drivetrain in this, but like you said, the 2.5/8 speed would have made this a lot more competitive and enjoyable in the small crossover market.

33k seems steep for a spec’d model.. I’d go for a lower trim personally, or a lower trim Rav. In my experience it’s always better to go for the next class of vehicle at a lower trim level than a lower class at a higher trim level. I do like the styling of this better than the Rav though. Most Toyotas these days are hideous to the point where I won’t buy one just because of the looks. This is a big step in the right direction.

Good review. Slow or not, it will sell in big numbers. Two other compact awd crossovers that sold well from the begining and still are in demand are subaru crosstrek , Honda hrv and to a lesser extent, the mitsubishi rvr( the stubby one ). All three of those vehicles started out with just barely adequate engine power and were in the 0-60 range of about 9.5-10.5 seconds. Evenetually both the mitsubishi and the subaru offered a slightly bigger motor with a 170-180 HP . That made the vehicles a bit faster, around 8-8.5 secs and the mpg did not suffer much. The only hold out was the honda hrv with it's one and only engine of around 145 hp. Customers still bought them because they did not need or want a ''fast'' vehicle, they were looking at good mpg, functonality, roominess for a compact crossover, reliability, day to day driveability, a dependable commuter/ small family car or a first time young buyer/ older retiree who wanted something affordable and basic. I think toyota will offer the hybrid in the corolla cross, but it will still be all about getting the best mpg and really, maybe the 0-60 might achieve only 8-8.9 seconds. Which would still be very very acceptable for most new car buyers in this category.

@@moeanthony9308 , ya, i understand needing a new vehicle now and then. Sometimes ne has to break open that piggy bank and get something new/safe/reliable/something fun or that suits their daily needs . I have had about 3 new vehicles in my 36 years of driving history. But i lie in a city with crappy, stagnate wages and very very high costs of living. I do not want or cannot afford to get buried in car loans when there is a struggle to pay rent/food/monthly expenses. I'm good with buying 7-10 year old Japanse , averaging about 5-6 years before i get bored and move onto another vehicle. I maintain my vehicles very good mechanically and also with the interiors, so i usually sell my vehicles pretty quick as most buyers are impressed and agree my price is very reasonable for what they are getting. Actually , just tonight i had two cousins over and they really loved my 2006 nissan Xtrail , commenting on nice shape it is in. One of them said if i want to sell it, he has a buddy who needs a vehicle for his daughter and my suv would easily sell if i'm interested. Probably is, i sell it for $4k-8k....i go spend even more for something old and high mileage . Probably just wait it out and drive my truck .
