#CoupleCarReview
This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross small utility. Toyota is known for building crossovers that people love and I expect this budget-friendly Corolla Cross to be just as popular. The Corolla Cross has a 2L 4-cylinder engine matched with a CVT, 169 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. FWD and AWD options are available. The AWD system delivers up to 50% of engine torque to the rear wheels and completely disengages when not needed for improved fuel economy.
Built in Huntsville, Alabama, the Corolla Cross rides on the same platform as the C-HR, the Lexus UX and the Corolla sedan and hatchback. It has more ground clearance than all of them at 8.2 inches. The Corolla Cross is comfortable, versatile and practical offering excellent overall cargo capacity. This crossover has a modern exterior design that is unique to this model. It comes with a black grille with black accents throughout, 17” steel wheels are standard on the base trim, 17” alloy wheels on the LE and the top trim comes with 18” wheels. Where does it fit in the Toyota lineup? Right between the C-HR and RAV4. The Corolla Cross is longer than the C-HR by almost 5 inches and shorter than the RAV4 by 5.4 inches.
Overall cargo capacity is impressive getting between 65.5 - 66.8 cubic feet depending on whether you choose FWD or AWD. Where the Corolla Cross falls short against the competition is in second row legroom. Although it offers a little bit more than the C-HR, it has less than the Hyundai Kona, Jeep Compass, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taos and Subaru Crosstrek. They all offer between 2.6 - 6.3 inches more legroom. If you are looking for a vehicle with extra ground clearance, the Corolla Cross provides 8.2 inches, more than the competition except for the Compass, which has the same and the Crosstrek with 8.7 inches. There are three Corolla Cross trims available, the base trim comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, a 4.2-inch multi-information display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 6-speaker audio system, heated front seats, manual driver and passenger seats, cloth upholstery and Toyota Safety Sense 2.0. The next trim up, the LE model comes with an 8” touchscreen, blind spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert. You can add the LE package for $2,100 CAD for the moonroof, wireless charger and roof rails. The top XLE trim has a 9-speaker JBL audio system, Softtex seats, 4-way power driver’s seat, 7” multi-information display, ambient lighting, a leather wrapped shift knob, wireless charger and power rear lift-gate.The Corolla Cross is slightly shorter than the Subaru Crosstrek but longer than the VW Taos, Kia Seltos, Jeep Compass and Hyundai Kona. The Crosstrek offers the most front legroom with the Corolla Cross coming in second amongst the competition. Second row legroom in the Corolla Cross falls short offering 32 inches of legroom, less than these competitors. Space behind the second row is not best-in-class but beats the Crosstrek. The Taos offers the most, followed by the Jeep Compass. The Taos and Toyota Cross have the most overall cargo space, the Corolla Cross offers 66.8 cubic feet for FWD and 65.5 Cubic feet for AWD. The Taos has 65.9 cubic feet.

important note: this has a DCVT not a regular CVT. It's designed by Aisin and has a physical first gear which removes the bulk of the torque and stress from the steel cvt belt resulting in next-level reliability. Aisin is the only maker with this patent... Toyota uses them because they are of course superior to the typical CVT that lights up the dash at 60k
@alvinsimba734
@alvinsimba734 2 жыл бұрын
They also have a CVT in 1.8 litre in the corolla sedan which has been in use since 2013 corolla, the cvt but the engine of 1.8 litre has been in existence since 1998. Only the 2.0 litre comes with first physical gear before cvt. In corolla cross its only one engine which is the 2.0 litre, but in sedans the L, LE, XLE come with 1.8 whereas SE and XSE come with 2.0 litre.

As always, great content Andrea and Zack. Makes perfect sense for Toyota to leverage the Corolla nameplate. Much along the same line as Ford has done with the Mach E. Despite the competition, this will be a top seller for Toyota. It may not have the power or styling of its competitors, but it has unrivalled quality, reliability and value for the money!

We just got ours last Thursday. So far, we like it. The price was right for Toyota quality compared to that 2015 Chevy Traverse we sold to CarMax that had neverending transmission issues. We got the LE front-wheel-drive version as there is not a whole lot of need for all-wheel drive here in Tucson Arizona. It was already being built in Huntsville to be shipped to our local Toyota dealership. So when my wife inquired, they said if we wanted to reserve it, we just needed to leave a $500 deposit for when it got there. Apparently they sell real quick. If I could make one change, I would make the back seats with a removable system just to take off some weight & have more space when its only 2 peeps in car.

The current plug-ins are nearly worthless. 25 mile range and only ev under 25mph. I guess it works if you are always in bumper to bumper grid lock but other than that, they have a long way to come.
@Kindness808
@Kindness808 2 жыл бұрын
@@audreywilliamson2301 Actually, the RAV4 prime, Hyundai Tucson, and Honda Clarity PEVs all get around 35-40 miles electric range…(Research says average American drives 35 miles a day) and if you go beyond that or take a trip…the vehicles just switch over to a fuel efficient hybrid engine getting 35mpg. If you happen to be at home again for part of the day…or have access to charge at work…it takes a much shorter time to charge than charging a larger EV battery (2.5-4 hours approx. depending on your charging situation.) I think they’re brilliant. And for vehicles like the Prius Prime hybrid that gets only 21 miles electric before switching to a hybrid, that’s all some people need. If many of us switches to 20 miles electric in our daily drives just imagine the positive environmental impact. I tend to have the mindset of the “starfish story”…every little bit helps, matters. Have a great day!

Real winner coming up. Cross trek targets outdoor folks better, like me, but this puppy is gonna hit a lot of shoppers, if they can get over the engine. Later HRV. Matrix reborn. Can't wait to try one. Madam giggles, would this work as a family vehicle? Zack would a mountain bike fit inside and still carry driver and 2 passengers? Curious if that green will return with others? Would love the funky green teal from the early 90s to return. Well done team.

Toyota is practical, simple and thus reliable. Less is more in some cases. Toyota doesnt use turbos as others. This engine has 169 HP more than the comps with same 2.0. Turbos wear out 4 cylinders and can be troublesome. More wear and tear. I prefer no turbos. On the review of small backseat, this is first review I've seen that suggests it's too small. All others give it thumbs up. The ceiling is raised for more headroom and theres plenty of knee room. It's perfect giving more room in the cargo area hence. Great job Toyota, it's a winner.

As a Toyota owner I'm cool with Toyota building appliances that are not best in class in any department. However if resale and reliability are your thing then Toyota is the car for you. Toyotas generally speaking break less than other products. Side note...Interestingly my new Camry gets waaay better fuel mileage than this CC tho. Both the Camry and the CC weigh about the same but the Camry has far more power.

small engines and heavy weight is a recipe for garabge fuel economy and highway cabin noise, but in the city this CC 100% beats ur camry's mileage im sure you can agree, ayways these lifted subcompacts are good for 17 years old girlss they're just garbage and boomers are the ones buying them the most its so weird

For corolla cross, japan market uses a completely different front grille than the rest of the world from day 1 at launch in 2020. It doesn't even have a toyota logo/badge on the grille and uses a big 'C' badge instead(in japan, 'corolla' itself is a brand or at least sub brand under Toyota, not simply a model line).

It will be an absolute hit! I am very impressed. From afar, it looks like a mini-RAV4. Which I guess is good. But I’m not impressed with the idea that Honda Civics and Corollas are suddenly approaching $35,000 (loaded). These used to be cars that were affordable, even with a minimum wage job. Now? You basically need a decent income... or two. And for those who finance $35 grand over 72/84 months... they’ll end up paying well over $40-45 grand and forever be upside down... for a mediocre Corolla. Will it be a hit though? Absolutely. Because after all... its a Toyota. Thanks for the video.

4% interest with zero down a $35,000 car will be $39,650. Still a lot and your right likely upside down through the whole loan. Minimum wage jobs cannot even support a used car factoring fuel, insurance and other costs. The new reality…..

I like the regular Corolla, especially the hatchback for versatility, but the headroom in the Corolla is not so good because of the 'lowered roofline' in that design. So to fix that problem the best solution is to go for the front-wheel-drive Corolla Cross, and get winter tires for better winter stopping ability. (FWD + winter tires is actually better at accelerating than AWD + all season tires)

Yes, this is definitely a slam dunk, just like when Toyota and Pontiac brought out the Matrix/Vibe twins, which, we are looking to replace. Two comments and one question. 1) it is beyond me why Toyota does not have the plastic appliqué ALL around the wheels (on this and the Rav4). Missing behind front wheel and in front of back wheel. So vulnerable... 2) passenger height adjustment should be a must (also missing from my civic hatchback) 3) Question: is the transmission in the Cross the same as the one in the hatchback? Consumer Reports just downgraded its recommendation of the hb because of tranny problems. Thanks!
@alvinsimba734
@alvinsimba734 2 жыл бұрын
The transmission is the same as the one in the hatchback but again a 2.5 litre will be perfect for the size of the cross but that will affect Rav 4 sales as well. For the current engine size of the cross, rather get a sedan which has better rear independent suspension whereas the cross uses torsion beam. As for the wheels to each one and own. I prefer steelies due to long term ownership and the winters here in Canada

The Big con hear is the CVT Transmission , they are trouble after 150,000 miles and cost around 4,000. To replace. Surprisingly we found out that just about every SUV and SUV crossovers have them. Make sure your next SUV,Crossover SUV or Compact SUV has a Automatic transmission!

The CVTs in toyota have less problems in general anyways. In my opinion for a sedan the CVT is fine but in a SUV especially for towing that will be the main concern.

This vehicle came to my attention recently and as someone in the market for a new family vehicle.. my interest was peaked. The 2015 Focus is still working good but my wife is going to take my head off soon with the difficulty getting our 3 year old in the car seat 🤣 Secretly.. I’m buying time until Ford releases this new Fusion station wagon. This 80’s kid is going to bring it back old school and make station wagons cool again.

Please double check to see if this Corolla Cross actually has adequate rear space for child seats as I suspect you will be disappointed. In regard to station wagons, they NEVER went out of style in Canada. We simply cannot get them anymore because of overlap with the US market where they are despised.

The ones from 2020 and above especially the L, LE trims are more quietier than the SE trims due to tire size alone. The L uses 15 inch, LE uses 16 inch tire and the SE is 18 inch tire. One big difference from the last gen comes to rear multi link independent rear suspension, makes it very quiet on the road and you feel less bumpy but then the sacrifice comes in the backseat for some people. I'm 5 11 and it works for me but for some people they might find an issue.
