@TheYotaChannel6 ай бұрын
The V8 is proven and tested, so it's easy for me to go with the V8. But what i will say is that the new twin turbo V6 is not a bad design at all. If you look at the design of the engine itself, it's pretty much a 2GR-FKS motor, the same motor you'll find in the previous generation Tacoma, and other various models that's equipped with the V6. The only new thing they change on the motor that's really causing the issue is the main bearing plate setup, i talked about it in the first video i made regarding this engine. Toyota said they have addressed the issue with the bearing plate. If that is the case, then this V6 is just as reliable. The internal makeup is not much different.

I agree on the long term, the depreciation is probably going to level out to normal, but for the short term, next 2-3 years, trucks coming off lease and people buy lightly used, it's definitely going to take a hit. Over time people will forget, especially when it's down to a nearly flat deprecation curve 10+ years from now.

Thank you for sharing all this information with honesty. Like you said, you need experienced mechanics to do these short block replacements. I think Toyota is asking for more problems by just replacing the short block. There are too many critical parts of the engine to be scattered across the Dealership for days while being repaired. There is barely enough room in most service departments to handle normal operations. Now I might have to trust them to scatter my Truck all over their floor. Toyota should at least simplify the process a little by supplying a complete new engine without debris in it. Toyota also should be extending the warranty on this engine for everyone. As long as you change your oil regularly there isn't any reason for that engine to fail. I've heard most Toyota engines run well past 300,000 miles. All I know is I bought a Sienna at 94,000 and traded it in at 127,000 miles on a 2024 Tundra. Thank you again. I enjoy your videos

Do you know what’s that recalls on the first generation Toyota Tundra?
@anthonyr58695 ай бұрын
That’s basically a rebuilt unit
@philhenderson35165 ай бұрын
I warned y'all about this engine even before it launched on the new Tundra. If you go back a couple of videos of the LS500 I commented very profusely about it. The same issues you're seeing in the Tundra have been reported since 2018. The difference is, the LS500 isn't as mass produced, so most issues weren't reported online, especially since the LS500 clientele is an older crowd that's not necessarily interested in reporting stuff on the internet. People tried to shut me down and called me a Toyota hater and now here we are... Was I wrong this whole time!? I don't think so. There are even multiple threads on the Lexus forums of LS500 engine failures. This recall is now PROOF to those Toyota fanboys who think Toyota can do no wrong. And mind you, this "voluntary" recall came only because the NHTSA decided to open an investigation on it. Otherwise, Toyota would've just simply ignored and dug under the rug, just like they tried to do with the self-accelerating cars from a decade ago!
@alvinsimba7344 ай бұрын
The self accelerating was a different issue then, people were not looking at their driver mats when they get in the vehicle which is why they now have clips to clip your mat so that the mat won’t move, even my 2005 matrix which was made in 04 even had clips to hold those mats, the acceleration issue was reported in the media back in 2006, so let’s not compare that issue to what’s happening with the tundra issue. The tundra issue is more serious one and they also had oil pistons issues in the Corolla for their 2.4 litre engines which later got discontinued. In other words, every car brand has recalls and issues, it’s how the issue is dealt is what’s needed
@philhenderson35164 ай бұрын
@@alvinsimba734 Excuse me but the issue was never the floor mats. Toyota blamed it on the floor mats initially as an easy way out, but it was a software glitch in the ECU all along. The NHTSA was able to replicate it in a Lexus ES350 that accelerated all by itself. And yes, the issues are entirely different, but the corporate strategy to diffuse and deflect is still the same. People need to stop venerating corporations, they really don't give a damn when things go wrong.

When you take second time to dealer,they should open case for Toyota representative go over and check it. If your car is leased,don’t worry about drive until lease is finished and give them back. Once you take dealer and they make work order and drive the car in the shop and they say it’s normal,don’t argue,they have your vehicle is the system,anything happens after that, that’s their responsibility.. . @@stevemorris6270 If Toyota was up front with what the cause of the engine failure was, the customer would have more confidence in the short block repair. By Toyota not being transparent with this information it just looks like they are throwing parts at the problem and hoping for the best! Toyota just tell the public what the cause of the failure is and what was done to remedy the issue, it's very simple.
@stevemorris62706 ай бұрын
@@wayneanderson991 I couldn’t have said it better. You are spot on! I believe the engine is going to a work horse once the problem is corrected. Personally I think it the new cradle design for the mains is the problem. Let me rephrase that the design is good but the clearances are to big. So basically it going to come down someone measure wrong. I saved for years to write a check to pay my truck off when I purchased it. Plus I added close to 20k in suspension,wheels/tires,bumpers,skid plates,intakes,turbo inlet pipes,charge pipes,steps,bed cover,light bar, spare tire bed mount, Alpharex headlights, and interior mods. All I am asking for is a straight answer what the problem is.
@wayneanderson9916 ай бұрын
@@stevemorris6270 I agree the new cradle design is the issue but I have a different opinion on the cause of the failure. I think the cradle and block materials are not expanding at the same rate causing clearance issues with the mains. I suspect the mains have a tight tolerance base on recommended oil. Thus the bearings are oil starved a bit until engine is properly warmed up if the engine is worked hard before thermal expansion takes place. Excessive heat and wear takes place for a short period of time on every cold start if the engine is not warmed up before a load is put on it. End result is main bearing failure. If you Toyota has a different spin on this theory please enlighten all of us and stop the speculation! No matter what the cause of the failure is at this point it still boils down to an engineering issue weather it is in manufacturing or assembly.

I would trust a reputable tech to do the work as you have done, but I would still not trust the engine itself, no related to the techs work. Until toyota comes out and gives an official reason, I wont trust this new v35a-fts. I trust tech and have. My sequoia had its frame done in 2015 along with other things under recall. In the salt belt, the trucks with the frame done are MORE valuable than those without, same with the 2az, I would buy a rebuilt one only. I feel like if it is a manufacturing defect, toyota would have already identified and fixed the issue in accordance with kaizen principle. We should not see 24 year truck failing. I guess its a inherent design that has a low failure rate, so they simply send a short block. If they in the slightest said that theres something wrong in the design, major class action lawsuits would come.

Im sure Toyota will give us more info in the future. If you look at the V35A--FTS engine, the internal makeup is the same as the 2GR-FKS motor found in the previous gen Tacoma and other various models that came equipped with the V6 The only difference is that the new V35A main bearing setup is different than the previous v6 design. Toyota said they have addressed the issue, im sure more details are coming our way. But once the main bearing plate design is taken care of, i see no reason why this engine wouldn't be as reliable as the 2GR.
