You are correct!! Toyota has Destroyed their reputation of Reliability and Resale. These Turbo engines will not be reliable or go the distance of a naturally aspirated engine! The prices are Crazy!!! 🤦‍♂️

They already have gone the distance.. plenty of Lexus vehicles have turbo charged engines.. it’s a manufacturing issue not a design flaw. With 30k or more parts in a vehicle it’s not gonna come out perfect immediately. The 5.7 is a great example of that. It had plenty of issues.

They should have used the 2.7 4banger, I have no idea why they went with such a small displacement. Beyond that you guys are just tweaking out, basically all diesels are turbos and are incredibly reliable. Sure they seemed to have screwed up, but turbos are amazing if the engine is built correctly around them.

You are correct sir. My 2022 Gen3 Tundra blew up at 28,000 miles. They finally put a recall out for over hundred thousand trucks due to defective engine blocks. Toyota is trying to cover it up by saying it’s debris in the engine block but that’s a bunch of BS. The 2022, 2023 and 2024s are still failing. This includes the Lexus SUV that’s made in Japan with Japan made engine blocks, go figure. Stay away from the sequoia too, it has the same defective engine.

You're correct it is NOT engine debris. You can't have engine debris from the manufacturer that's been Building engines longer than I have been alive for several years straight in both the United States and Japan. They probably hired the same engineer that put the plastic oil cooler line in the 2012 engines.

I actually think that Ford did better with their turbo truck engines. Was the Tundra V6 turbo an upgraded 3.5 or was it designed from scratch, a new engine meant for a turbo? That is what Ford did, they didn't convert an existing engine. I wonder how Toyota did theirs.

My truck has the 5.7 V8 and my wife's Highlander has the V6, both naturally aspirated of course, thus zero issues. Please people, do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy this new garbage. I've had Toyotas for decades. The first one I bought was the Corona circa 1970s. I currently have a premium 2018 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road. It's been a flawless vehicle just like my previous, 2011 4Runner. I've gotten my daughter and grand daughter Corollas and Camrys. It's a shame what has happened to the Toyota brand. Besides the engine downsizing they are making them in Mexico. I'll stick with my 2018. I hear they are also putting this four cylinder turbo engine in the next generation 4Runner :( I was looking at the new Land Cruiser but the cost (71K+) and it's engine stopped my interest. It looks like I'll have to check out Nissan (Datsun) when I'm in the market again. At least Nissan still offers a V-6 without a turbo. Thanks for your video Mo. :)

I am currently driving my 1999 Tacoma 4cyl with a 5 speed manual transmission. I paid $11,000 for it new from the dealer. Wish I had purchased two looking back on it. I picked up a 2003 Tundra 2yrs ago for $5,000 with 170k miles. Still driving it. I am very disappointed with the newer Toyota trucks after about 2010 because I can't afford them. I am always on the lookout for a deal on the older models. Wish they would get it together. They have priced themselves out of the market. I don't think it's a debri issue with the engines. It's an engineering issue. Turbocharged engines a notoriously hard on the crank and rod bearings, plus throw in a lack of sufficient lubrication to the bearings.

The ONLY two good things about the new Tacoma are that it FINALLY got the improvements that the EVERY Nissan Frontier has had for 20 years already (since the 2005 MY), namely: 1) A rugged FULLY-BOXED ladder frame, and 2) Rear DISC BRAKES. No more cheap-ass weak open C-channel rust-prone flexy frames and cheap-ass inferior drum brakes of the 1st, 2nd & 3rd generation Tacos! Yay! I can't say anything positive about the turbo 4's longevity. Too bad for Taco buyers. Nissan still holding the torch with their tried and true V6, which revs all the way up to 7,000 RPM...something any Taco can only dream of....😢😮

Thanks Deb and Mo, I wouldn’t drop $50k on a Tacoma or any vehicle, I and many people simply can’t afford it. The turbo worries me since it’s unproven right now. The back seat room is tight and not enough space, they should have made the back seat 1/2 or an option, I’d rather have it empty for storage or only 1/2 seat. But yeah the Tacoma is a disappointment, it’s price is too high, I’m not sold on the turbo 4 since it is more maintenance and it’s reliability and longevity is questionable and the back seat doesn’t work for me. We’ll see what Toyota does about both trucks in the next few years, Toyota has a major problem right now. I wouldn’t buy either one of them. I hope they’re listening.

Toyota has lost their marbles for sure. Went from having a couple of the best trucks on the market to having a couple of the most overpriced trucks on the market and with the Tundra engine issues unreliable trucks also. Most truck buyers would not buy the turbo powertrain if given the choice. With Toyota it is the only choice. Nissan Frontier will be the be big winner and can thank Toyota for voluntarily deserting the top spot by making an incredibly stupid blunder. The old saying " if it aint broke dont fix it" would certainly apply here. The 5.7 V/8 and the Tacomas V/6 were pretty much indestructible, now they are history.

Standard warranty probably good for three years, if so then you’re on your own after that, unless there’s another recall.

2007 5.7 crewmax 293K. I will be looking for a 2021 5.7 crewmax in a couple of years, if I can't find a 5.7 tundra, 6.6 used 2500 HD with no AFM or DOD, I'm my own mechanic, I know the Chevy transmission might not last as long, But what else is there, just continue to drive my 2007. Turbo charged motors are not bad, the problem is EPA emissions and a lean air fuel ratio. I'm about to twin turbo a V8 chevelle, but it doesn't haft to meet EPA standards, richer fuel will keep it cool. Bring back the 5.7

@@MassReelFishing Yep. and those prices won't go down either. Inflation is here to stay. Other than that, and the CAFE regulations, consumers are the idiots responsible for the high prices as well. People want their cars faster so they can get to the next red light faster and more powerful, even though they don't tow. They want their goofy, distracting infotainment centers, blutooth and power everything. Don't even get me started on automatic transmissions. If the majority of people weren't morons and were just ok with simple reliable vehicles, the prices would be at least 20% less across the board.

My coworker bought a brand new '24 Tundra TRD Off-Road 4x4 in that really nice blue color back in late October 2023. This was one of the first of the '24s to hit our local dealership at the time when he was there. Beautiful truck I may add. But he traded his '21 Tacoma TRD Sport which was a very nice truck, fully loaded with all the options including the sunroof. Well, not even a month and a half ago at the time of me typing this today, his brand new Tundra blew the engine with literally just under 9k miles. The junk couldn't even make it to 10k miles. Funny thing is, we all told him to hang on to his Tacoma because he was without his new Tundra for almost two months....while paying his $1400 monthly payments on it. Boy did he ever regret buying that Tundra...and he is so pissed at himself for getting rid of his Tacoma...live and learn.

I was considering a Toyota but I do my research.... no way!!!!! Had the market locked and they got greedy and lost their rep. They have never been the best looking and still aren't it was the reliability and affordability that made them appealing.

X Series is a Southeast Toyota product and not offered by Toyota. For those that don't know Southeast Toyota is a private distributor with rights to distribute Toyotas to certain Southern states. They essentially have a monopoly on the market in those states.

To me, Toyota lost the storyline when they made their truck hybrid powertrains for power and not gas efficiency. Rav4 hybrid/ PHEV are more powerful and fuel efficient than the ICE version. Why not the trucks?
