It was in love at first sight. I had the 2011 Speed Triple but was pissed to find out that the 2012's would have the R offered. I love my 2011 but when I learned the 1200 would be offered in the RR version I wasn't going to miss out. I don't care how comfortable or not. I bought it. Crystal White just like your test ride. Have added more carbon fiber. Heel guards, scrolling led indicators, rear hugger, Evotech tail tidy, Evotech radiator guard, Powerbronze tinted screen and just last week SC slip on titanium exhaust. Absolutely love this bike and the looks are stunning. It sits beside my Thruxton RS Ton Up in the garage. Behind them is my Daytona 765 Moto2 and 2012 Tiger Explorer. Fan boy yes indeed! I'm afraid the comfort is even a step below Thruxton R to me. My neck, wrists and knee bends don't work for me now, maybe 20 years ago. Your right about the BMW R9T Sport was a torture rack but a real beauty. I love the looks of the Speed Triple RR and the engine but the comfort not the price will keep me away.

Exact same for me. I test rode the RR whilst my ThruxtonR was being serviced and the riding position on this RR is just too extreme for me with my ThruxtonR being just about OK for me. Its a shame as I love the look of the RR, maybe the RS is the one to have.

I ride a BMW, (R1250R), can ride it all day. I once had a Suzuki GSXR750. After an hour had to get off as my neck and wrists ached. Never got used to the bike.

That bike with it's doubtless 160mph+ ability and best part of two hundred horspower is just perfect for loading up with soft panniers and riding to the N'ring and then a quick run down to Barcelona or southern Italy.

I sat on the one at the bike show. The nice triumph lady asked me what options would I like. I said a pillion seat cover, apparently I was first, she asked me why I wanted a seat cover, well I said who in their right mind will sit on the pillion

This bike is something special and special things are pricey, like MV Agusta, you know you ride a motorcycle art. It's not everything in HP, there is so much in styling and appearance. Though, this white color takes away some of it's lines and makes it plain. Silver would be much better. I am glad Triumph produces sth like this, and feel really sorry for discontinuation of 675 Daytona. For those who complain about neck pain etc, men became such a girls nowdays, buy scooter then. I tour with R6, everything falls apart after the ride, but I love that pain, it is part of being a biker, sport bikes aren't designed for comfort.

I'm 60, I'm not in the market a brand new bike anyway and I find myself increasingly drawn to the retro end of the market. For me, triumph are chumming the vanilla end of the bike spectrum, very nice but not my jam... swift but not particularly practical. Having said that, I enjoyed your review (as always). Your videos are crack to an homesick ex-pat.

Nice video. I don't think bike manufacturers worry too much about competitive pricing at this end. The chinese have that market nailed shut. These are trinkets for people in their 50's like me, that could buy a cheap casio watch, but wear an expensive swiss watch instead. More money than sense? Yes possibly but 'buy cheap, buy twice'' quality costs.

True. I do think it's a got a lot to do with euro regulations, and in particular euro 5. Making a beautiful exhaust with those regulations would be more costly (I think) most aftermarket are not euro 5

Don’t get me wrong! But I think Triumph are Barking up the wrong tree! Yes it’s a lovely looking bike yes it’s super fast! But I personally can’t see the point in producing yet another fast machine when there are so many speed restrictions now days? Your never going to get the full power of this Legally on our roads! & it’s £17k! I personally believe the days are over for the super fast bikes! Why don’t Triumph produce a really good mid range bike instead(or at least up grade wot they already got?) I think they need to rethink there strategy for the future! Interesting review tho!

As much as I’m a fan of a half faired bikes and some of triumph’s motorcycles I cannot stand few things. The headlight mount and size looks really odd and clashes with the awkwardly shaped fairing, nothing like a classic looking same area of thruxton R. The bikes also looks quite bmw way bland. The other thing is the price and questionable comfort… By the time I will be able to afford it petrol bikes will be on the way out sadly so happy for those who can enjoy it.

I call some of these designs as Corporate Designer's Selfishness to please themselves. Like the BMW R9T Racer, who is this bike for? When I set on the Racer years back, I knew that no one in his right mind would buy that thing. If they did, it would sit in the Garage or would be traded for a more usable daily bike within days. This is a Sunday Morning Starbucks run bike. Just like the Racer, Designers sold the idea to the Boardroom and it became a production bike. Only the time and sales figures will show the truth. I'd take any other Triumph over this one regardless of the price point. As a side note, as of late Triumph fits and finishes became very high quality. The paint job is as good if not better than the HD.

Controversial- but this bike reminds me of a bmw 4 series car - beautiful car ruined by a hideous bugs bunny lookalike grill and for me the speed triple is ruined by that fairing. In fact it’s never regained its best looks since they dropped the round double headlights as per the mission impossible film early 2000’s

Not a Triumph fan at all but this piqued my interest. I adore the concept and look of MV's Super Veloce and this comes close in my eyes. The RR would seem to be just as 'premium' as the MV and, in terms of performance per pound, better value. I think the base MV is around the same price. I know the numbers for the Triumph are impressive and the Super Veloce gives away around 40hp but the latter has more than enough go for me. I love that paint job - a vast improvement on Triumph's usual fare = every derivative of grey you can imagine. Yuck 🤢. But, all said and done, don't think I could own either bike. Could only afford/justify one premium machine, so it needs to cover more bases eg. solo touring as well. And I don't think my neck could cope with the position too well. Shame. Still nice to ogle though 😊

I sat on one at the dealership. I adore the look. It's just gorgeous. I could not personally live with the clip-ons - I'm just aged out of that ergonomics category. If they add the semi-active suspension to the regular Speed Triple RS - that's then THE bike I'd personally seek... but the look of that fairing with the single headlight is the bee's knees.

It really isn't fair to compare it to a base S1000RR, by the time you add the carbon pack, dynamic suspension pack and cruise control the BMW is more expensive, and it doesn't feel as premium or characterful as the Triumph.

An achingly good looking bike in the flesh, but the riding position is just a bit too focussed for my liking. Had they ket the same flat bars and peg position as the RS I think it would have been a winner, but as it stands it's neither an out and out sports bike or a proper super naked. Perhaps the perfect bike for guys wanting to step away from sports bikes, but it would be nice to see the next step in the retro roadster segment. I thought this could have been the bike to replace the mighty Thruxton R/RS.

Me too. I was underwhelmed by the 1200RS. Triumph should have given this bike the electronic suspension and all the upgrades they have given the RR. I don't actually like the look of this RR a total departure from the previous Speed Triple look.

I've owned a Sprint RS 955 since new. The sound of this new Speed Triple RR and the basic view and riding position look vaguely similar. At the time the Sprint RS was a bit of a 'budget' model (I paid £6,349 before extras) and appealed to me because I wanted something 'between' a sports tourer (Sprint ST) and a sports bike (Daytona 955). Wonder if anyone will go the DIY route and fit an after market half fairing to a Speed Triple RS, have a more upright position and save a couple of thousand pounds?

The Triumph Speed triple 1200 RR, looks more suited to a race track Mr Flyer. It is a very nice looking motorbike. However the york would be a problem where put your phone if motorbike dose not have sat nav. (I believe the middle of handle bar is called a York however I may be wrong) the second is back part where number plates is, I just think is waste of space, and might muddy or wet. However just my opinion Mr Flyer. 😏

I think the idea is a sport bike with a nod to practical road use. Think Duke Supersport or even Fireblade. If I were 5' 8" and decades more supple, I'd be interested. But at 6' 5" and knackered, it's a bike to admire, but not ride. The market is likely small, hence the high price for a low volume run. But had they gone for a Speed Triple sports tourer, to rival the z1000sx, they might have a model that is lovely to look at and sells well. Great video!

Unfortunately Triumph have made a marmite, bike, you love it or hate. Sales are slower the expected according to my dealer and you can nearly £2k off the list price if you haggle hard enough. I’ve owned 3 Speed Triples but this one will not be making an appearance in my garage - it’s not a Speed Triple and it’s fugly.

What a fantastic looking bike. With triumph where did the dirty hands guy martin types go? They obviously priced them out of the market, british dads on a Sunday and even daily run. Yes modern times, competitive markets. and so many have love for this brand but can't afford it. Motocycling has always been blue collar working class, but triumph are not british working class, meet at the cafe bikes anymore. Another premium brand with bragging rights for liquid middle classes that have a company car and have no clue whatsoever about what a biker is. Another core bike brand gone.

Just test rode one, suspension terrific, brakes great, handling great, engine horrible, sounds like a bag of spanner’s on tick over, rumbly in lower revs, vibey at higher revs, power is fine, but really 17k for an engine that basically feels rough, methinks that they have bored it out a touch too far?, or if it’s engineered in “character” then they’ve cocked it up IMO.

Test rode the 1200RS recently, very fast, love the styling. The suspension had been tuned so it wasn’t super stiff. Didn’t like the fact the dash kept flashing a low oil pressure fault (dodgy batch of sensors apparently). Also the rear brake squealed awfully when pulling up. Not a massive issue but the engine also vibrated a lot when pulling away. I normally ride an MT10 which isn’t as pretty and doesn’t have the spec but considering it’s deficit in capacity and cost (not to mention 100 % reliability) is so close to the RS I just can’t bear to part with it even though I’ve had two Hinkley’s and I loved both.

As far as I understand it, the tail monstrosities on bikes is a result of EU regs that say that the rearmost part of a bike may not be its' tyre. There must be something beyond it, even if that thing is just the numberplate, yes they're horrid in some cases but I think sometimes that folks don't realise that's why it's there.....
