2022 UCLA Latinx Graduation Student Commencement Speech by Yuliana Barrón Perez

My name is Yuliana Barrón Pérez. As the Tri-Chair for the 49th Annual MEChA de UCLA’s Latinx Graduation ceremony I had the opportunity to give an address in-front of 10,000 people at Pauley Pavilion Stadium at UCLA.
I was born and raised in Salinas, California, one of the largest agricultural communities in the world. I come from 3 generations of Mexican farmworker day laborers who have cultivated and harvested the fields of California for decades. I have always found different avenues to advocate for farmworkers in my community and beyond.

Wooow sin palabras. Exactamente este video se lo comenze a mostrar a mis hijos cada que me dicen " dad I can't do it its too hard" and even thought they still can't do it by themselves they kept on trying after I show them this video. Gracias por tus speach, es muy poderoso y motivador! Como padre trabajador del campo y de la construcción, organizador y como padre soltero por muchos años, abriendo camino y haciendo lo mejor para que mis hijos lleguen a cumplir sus sueños a sido toda una travesía, pero hoy, vert este video, escucharte, me brinda mucha esperanza, me emociona y me inspira a seguir luchando por mis hijos y verlos en un lugar como lonas hecho tu. Eres un ejemplo para muchos jóvenes como mis hijos y ojalá que muchos más sigan cumpliendo estas metas y rompieron con las narrativas que otros le han puesto a nuestra gente, a nuestra comunidad.
