Okra...I grew up down south where okra grows no problem. After moving to zone 3 I have to start my okra inside. It needs heat to germinate. Your greenhouse may be the ticket too. The best success I have is growing it in a hot house/greenhouse. I have to have okra, so go to great lengths to make it happy and hot. It's the best any way you eat it! Good luck!

Brilliant to see you getting back into your veggie growing plans. I like to try something new every year. Last year it was cucamelons they are sooooo cute and quite a tasty little snack and they pickle so well. This year, baby sweetcorn. The squirrels always eat my proper corn cobs if I don't fight them off and I'm hoping the little fluffy tailed munchers can't be assed with the baby corn if I grow some big ones nearby. Trying to time this later in the year with Pak choy and chilli ripening. 🌶 Spicy stir fry and noodles 😋 yum!

Clemson spineless okra is the only variety I grow. Pick it young when it’s tender though, or it will get fibrous. This past growing season was my husband’s first experience with it. He was thoroughly impressed with the amount of harvest, and the height of the plant. The more you cut, the more it seems to grow! This year will be my first year of cut flowers, so I’m excited to learn from trial and error 😆 Happy gardening everyone!

Ajvarski Pepper will be grown again this year as they are the prettiest red pepper that are sweet and great for roasting. I grew coleus from seeds last year. They were super slow at first and then suddenly grew like crazy and I ended up with so many plants in many beautiful colors and patterns that I could put them everywhere in the garden. They also stay nice in a vase for a very long time and grow roots very soon. The only concern: they are the slugs' favorite meal right after basil and dahlia seedlings.

Hi Nicole, Talking of “removing heat:” Heat and cold/cool is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is related to the balance of yin-yang chi (energy) in our bodies. Foods have properties that can help to maintain this balance. Imbalances trigger illnesses. You can find out more online. East Asians, like Chinese and Koreans, are obsessed with heat and cold in our foods; which are reflected in our cuisines. Btw, Chinese celery has a pungent smell, used mainly in soups and garnishes. Good luck in trying our all your seeds. Oh before I forget, your growing season may not be long enough to grow bananas, but they are great as ornamental plants. Love your channel and your videos. Keep them coming.
@FlowerHillFarm2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’ve never heard of it before. I would definitely be bringing the bananas indoors for half of the year. Everyone around here who grows them treats them as indoor plants 🍌🪴

I think I have perfected the loofa/luffa after 3 years of almosts. I had about 4 plants last year that had huge luffa gourds that were drying when the first hard frost hit. I left them out there, but they didn't really dry properly after the plants died. I got 3 luffa "sponges" and had enough to give as Christmas gifts, but I WANT MORE! Great seed haul. I focus primarily on flowers, but I do enjoy growing a variety of lettuces, radishes, cucumbers, etc. Last growing season, I found a seed company somewhat close to you in Rochester, NY that sold bulk quantities of flower and veggie seeds. Great variety of flowers and veggies and much larger quantities than what I could find from most online companies. I decided to go ahead and buy in bulk so I wouldn't have to buy any seeds for a few years. What in the world I thought I would do with 250-1000 seeds of each variety I don't know, but I figured I would be set to never order seeds again. Ha! I think I ordered as much or more from them again this year. I must grow all the varieties!

Hey Nicole, I used to live in Thailand, they use snake beans there a lot, but the eat it mostly raw, either in green papaya salad or just as side veggies for spicy stuff, like chicken laarb salad. The texture is crunchier and a bit tougher than regular green beans. The small eggplants I've seen used in curries, especially green curry, they keep their texture and bite, so would probably work in stir fries too. Job's tears I've eaten there in salads, when you cook it, it's a bit like pearl barley but sweeter 😊

I did baker creek’s orange jing okra and omg it is so good and is beautiful. Lots of peas, beans, long beans, greens, pineapple squash, lots of varieties of tomatoes (I had a whole section of black and purple veggies), I’ll do the purple marasaka (I think) pepper….delicious pepper jelly. Oh, and doing amaranth again - you can actually eat the seeds like tiny popcorn and use the plant to dye wool.

I did the Yod Fah broccoli last year, it was so delicious and kept on giving all summer. Also, I grow Martino's Roma every year, and it's so prolific. I grew Abe Lincoln last year also, and let me tell you, it was not only huge, it was my best tasting out of 40 varieties, that I grow. Good Luck

Like to watch your seed hauls! It gives me ideas for ones I haven't tried! I know you are very busy but it would be nice to have you do those halapeno popper recipe or a rutabaga one to share how you make them. Guardian Answer does that on occasion and its fun to see how someone else cooks things! Love Baker Creek. I too am trying those super duper echinaceas. Cant wait!
