I drive a golf 8 gti clubsport and honestly the infotainment isnt hard to get used to especially with the customisable home screen where you can see the radio station and navigation for excample at the same time etc. Love the sound system as well

This great video is alluding to something very important common to all possible ''Audiophile'' level sound systems (whether in a car or not), that offer Equaliser adjustment setting...that a lot of purchasers don't look into. The default setting of a lot of stereo systems EQs/even your smartphone audio (whether Harman Kardon; or other well-known brands such as Bowers & Wilkins), have the equaliser Hz settings all at ''50%'' that is all options of Hz 'in the 'middle'. This results in a 'muddy/flat' sound lacking in treble and bass. These stereo systems, it's really important to turn up (esp) the treble and bass in the equaliser settings to the ''smile'' configuration; 100 Hz about +8; 350 Hz about just above the middle point; 1 kHz about just above the middle point; 3.5kHx slightly higher at about +1; 10 khz recommend all the way up to +9; Subwoofer about +8 Even with the above, the Harmon Kardon VW Golf Mk8 system is still not quite as good/crisp as the equivalent Harmon Kardon surround system in the BMW 1 series for some reason/does get harsh at very loud settings. Possibly because the speaker set-up in the vehicle is not quite as good. But this crucial equaliser changes in settings makes a big difference in improving the sound and getting the most out of the system. It is a very similar analogy to leaving the EQ settings on your iPhone under 'music' settings to 'off', compared to changing the setting to 'Rock' or 'Dance' - notice the immediate improvement in crispness in sound...or leaving your amplifier EQ Hz settings in your home stereo system to all in the middle.. I hope this helps users who have this system purchased as an option...interesting in the past all stereo systems came with EQ switches (even on the ''boom boxes!" of the 80s) externally obvious, which forced us to play with them to remove the flatness of sound to this 'smile' configuration. Now with everything defaulted to options hidden without physical buttons, it's easy to not be aware of above tips.. Please note also that speakers of some companies like Harmon Kardon/Bowers & Wilkins need some 'riding in', and sound more dynamic/better after 1 month of constant usage in the car for some reason...

I dont know man, i got the new Gti base model not thinking much about the audio though, coming from a 05 nissan altima with bose sound system i have to say its a huge difference. The basic sound system in the new Gti is very bad, and im really thinking on upgrading it, not sure if i can update it to harman kardon at the dealership but I'll probably try!

Capacitive controls on the wheel and dash, massive reduction in cost in the centre console. I quote a lot of parts like this for manufacturers, I can see MASSIVE savings for VW here.

That’s not a subwoofer it’s a 6” driver for mid-bass. I own a ‘19 GLI and completely redid my stereo. What I hate about it is the fact of not being able to replace my radio for an aftermarket one yet! I’m at the mercy of the integration gods. 😖 I have the ability to run flac audio though but the frequency response from the factory radio isn’t that great. Thanks for the video.

I find it strange that such a seemingly competent audio reviewer doesn't do a basic frequency sweep to see what the eq is actually set to and bases everything on feeling. Savagegeese did actual measurements and it tests pretty good. Also Harman/Kardon most likely wasn't even near this car they just stamped the paperwork.

he said at the start hes using lossless straight from USB thumb drive for best possible quality - you should also be able to use lossless from your phone with wireless apple carplay because it uses a wifi connection (as far as I'm aware) so there is no bluetooth quality bottleneck / loss

The bose system in the Buick VErano is five times better sounding WITHOUT a woofer! My Subaru Harmon Kardon however is much less quality than the GTI:( its ok) but the GTI is crisp for anything other than hip hop!

It can't be coincidence from the marketing team for people at a glance to read that as Harman Hardon. In any case, IMO this is one of the worst infotainment systems out there, some things take clicks through ten pages to get to that used to be just a button.
