Volvo is a brand that has been in almost constant flux over the last few decades. And while their biggest transition yet centers on plans to go all EV sooner than later; like most brands, they’re also shifting their focus away from wagons and sedans to utility vehicles. In fact, their current best-seller is this XC60, so let’s see how they plan to keep it that way. #Volvo #VolvoXC60

Why in the world would anybody opt for the new Acura MDX Type S starting at $72k and it’s got 100 less horsepower then this & its 0-60 is a full second slower then this. And this Volvo starts at $44k. This is an amazing vehicle. I want it.

The new SPA Volvos are in a league of their own when it comes to value. Even this well appointed T8 with 450hp/550torque is only $58k, making it one of the more powerful cars you can get in general for the price and it’s in a Swedish suv with orthopedic seats lol. All while having interior/part quality that beats out the rival Germans and Japanese. Volvo always has and seems to always will be slept on.

@@motecozuma1 from what I’ve read online, Volvos seem to be fairly reliable as long as you do your maintenance items on time, preferably by the book. I’ve seen plenty of newer Volvos for sale with 100k mi+. I’d gladly settle for less reliability if it means to not be seen in a gussied up Honda.

I love it and it is fast as hell, but has anyone thought about how much cooler it would have been with a turbo and supercharged 5 cylinder just hearing the sound of that engine would be freaking amazing. I just don't understand why volvo had to change something that obviously wasn't broken.

For efficiency's sake. One thing that surprised me and my friend were just how far away the fuel injectors were from the valves on my old S60 T5 (B5244T5). Even with 280hp and 315lb ft, it still kept up with his 2009 IS350 though. By the end of it, we were up to 320hp and 370lb ft. Camaros and Chargers got annoyed 🤣

I was a huge Volvo lover, I've owned 5 of them, mostly wagons. I'm not a fan of the current generation of Volvo's, especially their wagons. Significantly less space than previous wagon despite looking good. I also dislike their pathetic 4 cylinder engines which are noisy and unrefined especially at their high price point.

This is one of the problems with plugin hybrids and pure electric vehicles. Having the means to plug it in is a problem for people living in apartments and old houses. Plus the electrical grid in this country is so archaic it could collapse at any time.

"city weave" lol. That's just Tweed. We used to use that on mini trucks because it was the cheapest material to get lol. C'mon Volvo... Tweed aint "luxury"
@jclouw321
@jclouw321 Жыл бұрын
That’s not just any tweed, it’s a sustainably sourced wool blend. While most tweed is wool, not all wool fabrics are created equal. Compare a $300 tweed jacket from JC penny against something like a $2000 tweed jacket from Emiliano Zegna. In cars, the only brands that even dable in tweed are Toyota with their legendary Century and various Bentleys. Highly regarded as some of the best seat fabric in the world if you aren’t hung up on the “”luxury”” of leather, which isn’t all that nice anyways unless it’s properly processed. I’d recommend doing your research first.
@vicdez
@vicdez Жыл бұрын
@@jclouw321 First things first in your JC Penny/Emiliano Zegna comparison. Made by the same seamstresses in the same plant, with a different tag. Ask any seamstress about this. Second thing is Tweed is not a comfortable fabric so the fact anyone thinks its luxurious is purely subjective. Since it seems you're either defending your purchase or some how have some skin in the game be more precise about the so called "sustainably sourced" because that seems like plastic and not even real wool lol. I speak from experience not repeating random things I read on the internet.
@jclouw321
@jclouw321 Жыл бұрын
@@vicdez Well I can state for a fact that your suit point is not true. I’ve worked in the textile industry for over 10 years and fashion for 6. I’ve sold suites from $300 Topman sets to $4000 custom Zegna made-to-order suites. JC Penny suites are Chinese sourced fabrics with chinese manufacturing. These wool factories slaughter their poorly-fed sheep because it’s easier to sell the meat and wool. Compare that to Zegna, where both the fabric and manufacturing are in Italy. The sheep are well cared for, well fed, shaved, pampered, then shaved again. A time intensive process that shows in the quality of the wool. Then it’s hand-sewn with double stitching into the beautiful suites they make. Unless this seamstress is flying from China to Italy to make these two brand’s suites, I doubt they’re the same. Back to the topic of car upholstery, have you owned a car with both wool and leather seats to compare? I’ve personally multiple leather seat cars (both my current cars have them) as well as a 1989 Volvo 760 Turbo reupholstered with quality wool seats and man, wool seats make a massive difference. Warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and anti-microbial, all while being sustainably sourced when done right. I love the look of leather, especially as it ages, but it’s hard to argue the comfort and form factor of GOOD wool upholstery.
@vicdez
@vicdez Жыл бұрын
@@jclouw321 So the Italians don't eat their sheep and Chinese do. I don't see how that means "sustainable". Back to "wool blend" care to elaborate on that subject? The word "blend" in wool blend would dictate that it is not one hundred percent wool but some plastics as well. I can see a price increase in your quality example if someone double stitched a whole suit from scratch. How likely that no actual machine was used in making said suit to dictate up surd price vs branding? Quality is not dictated by where its made. (most things made in China are sub par, just not all) I have owned a car with both tweed and leather seats. Again feel is subjective and does not mandate its representation of luxury. I much prefer suede/velour type materials but again subjective. Think 80's premium Nissan/Toyota/Honda. I remember I used to have a Citation with tweed and vinyl as well. My experience in auto upholstery with materials is while you do get better longevity/workability with better materials the price difference between say the cheapest vinyl vs top vinyl wasn't much and the amount of work I put in an interior was the deciding factor as far as pricing. Tweed is one of the harder materials to clean especially when you have children and is certainly not "luxury".

Its also a no-cost sub for the nappa leather, so it’s not like it’s a ripoff… if someone likes it and wants it, or would rather have cloth than animal hide (which seems to be a rather large movement and concern in European cars in the UK and Germany) they have the choice to get it. Not into it, get the leather. It’s not like they’re boxing anyone into a leather-free corner and trying to push it at us as the *new* luxury choice.

They’re different categories of cars. We currently own an older Volvo XC70 and were shopping for a second car for the family and stopped by the Hyundai dealership to see what they offered. They showed us a Kona Limited trim and man…. the interior quality is just, not there. In the words of my partner who isn’t car literate said to the salesman, “this feels cheap”. Sure the car might be great, but it’s in the details that Hyundai really missed the mark with us. Stiff, uncomfortable seats with low quality leather, hard plastics galore, weird design choices. That’s in start contrast to even our older Volvo, where the seats are orthopedic and the leather soft, all the plastics in touching distance are soft, all parts of the door you would touch are soft enough to sleep on, there’s real metal and wood trim, and ergonomically everything made sense. Plus there’s just the “thud” of a well built car that Volvo is known for that Kia just… Didn’t have. So we struck a balance between sport and comfort and got a late-model C30 T5 R-design. Not to say it’s a bad car, your Kona N sounds like a riot, but it’s definitely a different market.
