Nice video, Joe. Please keep the updates coming as you learn more about the camper. I am wondering if there is a portable satellite hook-up on the outside? Also, what is the production date for your unit??

Sorry for the delay. Yes, there is a portable satellite hookup on the outside. There’s a connection for cable and a connection for satellite. My camper’s production date was December 2021

Joe, thank you for the in depth product video. Specifically, in the Winnebago Micro Minnie FLX 2108TB, I have a 220 watt Ecoflow Bi-Facial solar panel. If plugged into the Side Mount Solar Port, is it compatible with the GO Power 30 amp MPPT Charge Controller. In short, will the charge controller take the watts from the Ecoflow panel and use it to charge the battery? If not, is this because the GO Power charge controller is only compatible with GO Power solar panels?
@joestravels3027

I believe the port is wired to the battery so your portable panel needs to have its own charge controller.

Hey Joe, really enjoying the videos. I want to buy a 2100bh FLX for my family in the next few weeks. I live in Texas where it is quite hot during the summers. Can you comment on how well the AC has kept your unit cool on hot days while running on battery power?
@joestravels3027
@joestravels3027 2 жыл бұрын
The a/c is relatively efficient, but I still use it sparingly. I installed a MaxxFan vent to keep fresh air circulating and try not to use the a/c too much while on battery power. That said, I was able to run it at 72 degrees in 84 degree Florida weather during the day for about six hours while I was inside working (with the compressor cycling on and off to maintain the temp, and the solar panels charging the battery) and ran the battery down to about 50 percent. So, if you intend to do something similar you should be fine. I’ll have to play more with mine in the dead heat of summer, and see how that goes. I may need to add a battery at that point.

Is there room in the garage to add an additional battery so more solar panels could be added?

Hi Joe, I'm a new Winnebago owner. I bought the 2024 Micro Minnie 2108TB. I store it in an enclosed space so the panel is not exposed to the sun. I do have access to a 110 outlet in the storage space. If I turn the battery disconnect switch off will it still provide a trickle charge to the battery?

Why is it important to prevent wind from going underneath the solar panels when driving? Mine have been installed since 2016 on the front (3 panels ahead of the AC) of my 2101DS and I've had NO issues. The fear days of solar panels flying off RVs is long over.

It’s probably not. Just a nice touch. The aerodynamic improvement would be negligible.

Joe love your videos…I just purchased same unit…however after talking with go power rep my 30A mppt solar controller is not hooked up to my battery…was curious and still learning the unit…is your bank 1 red + and white - wires connected directly to your positive and negative terminals on the battery? Rig is going back to dealership next week…hard to find any info on setups…was on phone with xantrex and setup inverter…. Thanks for any input.

My wires from the controller are not connected directly to the battery. I had to take my camper back in for warranty work, so I can’t check, but I suspect that the solar controller is wired to the power distribution box under the stove, which in turn feeds the battery.

did you ever get more information on this? I'm running into dead ends trying to figure this out, along with how/where the "solar on the side" port is wired. I'm just trying to plug an extra portable solar panel into the side like the marketing material indicates I can do. :) Thanks!
@joestravels3027
@joestravels3027 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheDevilOfCoffee I haven’t tried to. I’ll take a look the next time I pull it out of storage, but I’m told the side port is wired directly to the battery (that may mean directly to the power distribution box) and bypasses the solar charge controller so your supplemental panel will need to have a built in charge controller.

@@joestravels3027 Awesome, thanks. That's what I've read as well. I did try a portable panel with its own controller but it went into an overcharge mode. I will have to investigate more with a multimeter, I suspect. I'm on a mission now. :) Edit: got a Renogy 200w panel and they let you bypass the charge controller. It plugs right into the Solar On The Side (SAE) port and adds a lot of great solar capacity. Only tested it out once but it did quite well. Cheers!

@@joestravels3027Also talked to Go Power support and yes they thought that the side solar port was wired to the battery. I then sent a email to winnebago support to get there take on this issue. They sent me this wiring diagram that show the 'solar on the side' go to the Go Power solar controller. So I'm assuming that it is a parallel connection to the solar controller. I have a Renogy 200 watt portable unit that I was hoping to add to the 'solar system'. Hopefully this shared link works. reply if not. drive.google.com/file/d/1X8ShUHQphsa8SUlUYojl7w53v_OsdOAS/view?usp=sharing

Joe I went through the battery manual and your settings. The manual says for float use 13.4 with max of 13.6. It also says to disable equalization and temp compensation settings. That's the only discrepancies I found. For turning off the inverter I'm testing the power off timer setting in the inverter app vs. powering it off on the system and using the remote for on/off as suggested. Any thoughts on that? Also, what weight distribution are you using? On the site the dry hitch weight says 548 the dealer put on weight distribution of 400 to 600 lbs. Seems like I should use 600 to 800. Thanks for the video.

Yeah, I get conflicting info from the manufacturers and Winnebago. I saw Winnebago was telling another KZbinr to select AGM as the battery type rather than Lithium because they said the solar controller was incompatible with the Lithionics battery. We just can’t get a straight answer. I’ll have to adjust mine based on what you’ve pointed out and see how it does. The temp settings sounds about right, since Winnebago snipped the temperature sensor. It really shouldn’t matter, since the battery has its own bms and temperature sensor. I’m using the 1,000lb equalizer WDH, which I used on my last rig too. The tongue weight is heavier than many people realize, once you have your trailer all loaded, water tank filled, propane bottles, etc. 1,000 is probably overkill though. 600-800 should do just fine.

@@joestravels3027 Thanks man.Dealer says 400-600 should be fine which I question on the weight. So far charging is doing well on the settings based on the battery manual. Bulk is reaching 14.4 during the high point of the day. I did notice the MPPT temp at 111F out of 113 operating temp during peak. I've been testing the inverter auto power off settings and it's working well. I have it set to 4 hours via the app. Overnight, I have minimal things running water heater on Eco to mimic frost setting conditions, fridge is on the coldest setting, and no lights. Every morning the inverter is off and I wake it up through the remote in the cabin. I hope this testing helps.

You seem to know your stuff but do a troubleshooting video and cover everything. Like why is the double green light on the solar controller the left one is blinking. Why when I’m on shore power and batteries fully charged my inverter doesn’t shut off. Where do I get these answers. Thanks

I’m assuming you have a FLX. If you haven’t done so already, turn off the inverter in the basement, with the switch on the inverter itself. When that’s off, you’ll be able to turn the inverter on or off on demand with the switch inside the trailer by the door. Winnebago ships these with the inverter constantly on by default for some strange reason. That just becomes an unnecessary drain on the battery when you don’t need the 120v appliances.
