Just from a Retro soul stirring memory point of view, the kwacka gets the nod. I still have clear memories of when the 900s first came out and the incredible impact they had on the scene. Yoshimura, Rickman and many other frame,pipe,engine specialists turned themselves inside out,to make specialist parts,kits for these bikes- it was amazing. I’m sure I could tee up replacement flab ridding parts to get the weight down and still maintain the fundamental ,retro appearance of the bike.

I’d have to say the Kawasaki still gets my vote. That seat on the Yamaha should be replaced with a cowling, especially if you don’t carry a pilllion. Also a small bikini fairing would help smarten up the cockpit area.
@gerardmontgomery280
@gerardmontgomery280 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that same shape of seat but as a cowling in that stunning blue would elevate the looks of the XSR to something truly special. As it stands though the Z900RS would be the one for me.

I just picked mine up a week ago Sunday. At first, I thought the frame looked too massive at the front and the swingarm looked extended. But over a couple of days the look grew on me. My track bike is a CBR600rr so at first, the XSR's rear tire felt like it was sweeping the road way back there. I could feel the difference in wheelbase length between the two bikes when intiating a turn, which really wasn't the case with my FZ8 vs. the CBR. That being said. After a couple hundred miles of break-in and some testing at an area I'm very familiar with, the XSR turns sharply and is very stable in a turn. In fact, the turn-in is sharper than I expected. Beauty is subjective, but I'm glad I grabbed the XSR vs. the MT09SP. I feel like I sit in the XSR and on top of the MT09SP. I already have a sport bike in the CBR, which I track at least 20 days a season. I didn't need another sport bike (although I will track the XSR once twice for the fun of it). I wanted most of what the CBR offers (especially a sweet motor) but with more comfort for multi-day trips. The electronics are nice, once you get used to them, and the cruise is the cat's meow. All in all, the bike is one hell of a value, in my opinion, for a real-world bike. Yes, you can buy a 200 bhp naked with all it's big-name components and cache, but really, how long can you keep the throttle pinned on the street. Just price it against anything similarly equipped and it just jumps out as one to give serious consideration.

I might be in the minority here...but, this bike is fugly. It was before...and it still is. The lines don't work. The tank and frame up near the forks look mismatched and cobbled together. The seat and side panels are ill proportioned. Might have a great engine...but....

I currently ride a 2023 MT 10. Here is why. So a couple years ago I purchased a 2021 Kawasaki Z 900 RS café. A year later I put my butt on the 2022 MT 10 for a demo ride and realized I was on the wrong motorcycle. The Z 900 was not the correct bike for me. The Z 900 RS café was a phenomenal machine however, after riding the 2023 MT 10, I knew right away I was on the wrong machine. Long story short, I traded the Z 900 café for the 2023 MT 10 and have not looked back. Anyways I did get a chance to demo the RSX 900. I could not be more impressed. It is fabulous from top to bottom. Either way, I’m gonna stick with my MT 10 :-)

With regards to the xsr900 being the fastest retro... that's a yes and a no from me. The Honda cb1000r neo café has a bit of an identity crisis. It's not a full super-naked, and it's not a full retro. But if we consider it a modern classic which there is an argument for... it is by far the most powerful modern classic. In terms of bang for buck in the modern classic genre, the xsr900 is THE bargain. Over a grand cheaper than the closest rivals - z900rs and Speed Twin. Plus more power.

In my opinion there is nothing retro about the bike. the bikes got a modern engine. modern frame, modern brakes and suspension. so the seat has a hump in the back and it has a round headlight. that doesn't make it retro in my eyes. The Kawasaki Z900 RS is close to retro. I took the XSR 900 for a test ride. I forgot how insane that engine is. power right off of the line. but its not a bike you want to relax on. there is something about the bike that makes you want to use the engine. yes you can ride at low rpm's. but you will still be revving it once in a while in situation where you can get in trouble fast. I am tossed between getting this bike or something with less power that you can use the power more often. I want to check out the Suzuki GSX8s when it hits the dealer. and the Honda Hornet. or maybe check out the Triumph speed twin 1200. but I also want to try the new Street triple 765, I also want to try the Honda CB1000r. and Kawasaki z900 RS. at this point I am not sure what direction I want to go. all the bikes I listed are allot more money where I live. the Yamaha XSR 900 cost around $13,525 if I translate the money to dollars. but all the other bikes I mentioned are also over priced. but the ones that have been out a while I find really clean ones second hand. but not the XSR.

For me to be in Yamaha is going to have to install a cafe fairing and maybe cowl cover on pillion area of the seat. I seriously cant stomach naked motorcycles and I dont understand the reluctance of manufacturers to AT LEAST offer fairings and cowls aftermarket! Seriously?? I truly believe they are missing the boat on this.....and then when a company DOES fit a cafe fairing like the Kawi Zed cafe bike I think it is mainly to make up for being so lacking otherwise! Similar with Honda 1100 cafe twin really nice looking but rather porky and low power...sorry I just insist on getting it ALL which I believe an XSR SP with fairing and cowls WOULD deliver WHY the reluctance? I simply refuse to believe many people would want the naked if they had a faired option....come on it CANT be that much more expensive to produce! Some extra brackets and painted plastic ad a windscreen? Might add a few hundred to production cost? I am boycotting until I get what I want

I've retro-fitted the shorter swingarms on both my last Yamahas, same here, I'm put the MT09 one on it, sharper steering in more important on Scottish roads than high speed stability! Would look great with RD350-N type bars, and green number boards stitched into the rear seat, like the bike it's based on, the TZR250 3M-A reverse cylinder, and the model after. Tank range is an annoyance, shame it doesn't have the Tracers capacity! Love it otherwise, the late '80's/early 90's TZR'S are still my favourite Yamahas, be nice to emulate them again,but with reliability!

I own the XSR900 previous model and tried the new Z900. Both engines are absolutely different. The Yamaha engine is always ready to rev. It is more sporty and nervous. The XSR engine es smooth, but the Kawasaki 's four cylinder revs more regularly and it is smooth like silk. However, I would choose the three cylinder engine of the Yamaha because its intense acceleration, high torque feeling and lighter weight. Yamaha suspension is very stiff, nor is the Z900. Both are phenomenal bikes, more comfortable the Z, more sporty the XSR. By the way, XSR consumption is very low (I do 65 mpg) and maintenance costs are pretty reasonable (100€ for the 10.000 km scheduled maintenance).

I find it pretty amazing how something so close to the most ideal motorcycle currently, has easily fixable flaws. Yamaha could have easily given it a decent turning angle, lock to lock. Yamaha could have easily given it a wider more legible screen. Yamaha could have easily given it a 17L tank, after 8 years of people complaining about it. These are easy fixes. They don't require some monumental redesign of expensive and difficult things.

I've owned both the Z900 and 2nd gen MT-09. In spite the better features with the Yamaha (cruise, IMU, TC, quick-shifter up/down), I prefer the Z900 for it's smoother engine, stable confidence inspiring chassis, bigger fuel range. Yes its more simple but the throttle control and flexibility of the way the power is delivered doesn't need traction control, it needs operator self control. Would I like a cruise control? Beyond a doubt. But I'm to the age and time in my life where if the bike doesn't fix stupidly glaring features, I'm not buying it. I've bought and lived with bikes over the years that frustrate me a lot over stuff that just shouldn't be a design feature, with apparently no explanation from manufacturers other than the design teams are negligent and short-sighted, or fools. These are experienced brands that have been around a VERY long time. I have much less tolerance over these things anymore.

I really want to like the XSR, and I think it is a fantastic bike to ride. However, the seat on the 2022 model is just way too ugly. I am also not a big fan of that large frame and swing arm. Just too much 'in your face'. And call me old-fashioned but I cannot get used to those hidden under-engine exhausts.

The seat looks better in the flesh but I'll agree with you on the exhaust. The old one looked better.

I’m not tempted to trade in my xsr for this new one, but it’s nice. I love the cruise addition, but not much else. Don’t need the tracer swingarm, or lower seat and longer reach. It’s obvious that they’re targeting a newer audience than previous buyers, but that’s okay. It’s pretty cool. 👍👍🇨🇦

The XSR is a bit less ugly than the MT-09, which means it's still mostly ugly. Yamaha should fire its entire design department, as should Suzuki.

@@DB-sd3cw no, but i do understand motorcycle design and air and water cooled design differences. You looked at the latest Ducati Monster compared to an Evo 1100? And i don't denigrate people with a different pov.

It's just... so goofy looking. It's like the designers got bored halfway through and just did whatever they needed to get a bike out. The previous model had a clean, muscular and simultaneously retro and futuristic look to it. Sucks because I really considered buying one.
