2023-2025 Toyota Prius Hybrid, Prius Prime - EPB Release For Rear Brake Pad Replacement Service Mode

Master Technician Viktor G shows the DIY how-to rear brake pad replacement service mode procedure for backing up the electric parking brake motors.
Please note that no matter how you retract the rear parking brake piston screw (using the procedure in the videos, using a 12 battery to supply power directly to the EPM motor, using the factory computer or mechanically winding it back using a Torx bit after unbolting the motor), there is a small chance of setting a fault code for the brake system. If the fault code is set, it would have to be cleared with a good quality scan tool.

Thanks for sharing this, Victor. I bought my 2024 in January. It's my first (and probably last) super modern car. This vid pretty much sums it up. The simple emergency/parking brake (push pedal/pull lever) was so much more simple, and less inclined to random computer glitch/electronic failure. Why must manufacturers make stuff so complicated?

Some people like the EPB and some don’t 🙂 There are several advantages to it: lighter weight, automatic engagement/disengagement, no cables to seize up etc. In my experience, these systems have been quite reliable and trouble free.
