I wonder if these SRAM bikes are for Californians, because here in the Washington DC area, I can say that probably two riders I've seen have SRAM, the rest Shimano.

I would have to say no on that. We are in Florida and lots of SRAM bikes come through our channels. Definitely more than di2 these days.
