All I can say is I’m Loving my F-250 H.O lariat tremor. sometimes pull a 16ft gooseneck trailer and exhaust brake works awesome. Still gotta learn more about the exhaust brake

Agree - good video. I started watching the video and thought this video looks like Pennsylvania. I grew up between Johnstown and Altoona.

The exhaust brake isn’t going to continue working past a certain speed. It isn’t going to be like your old truck you’re going to need to have a load on it for it to continue working until you’re almost at a crawl plus it might also be stronger. I know because we have a 6.7 Cummins and it stops working around 40-50mph without a load,but with a load the exhaust break kept working when crawling to a stop at 5mph.

2018 6.7 Cummins exhaust brake is amazing. My 2022 f350 powerstroke exhaust brake is…..well it makes me think well it beats driving a gasser with just brakes.

@@ArmyProperty i know but with that said I love the 10 speed and the locking rear differential and the 48 gallon tank. I love the long bed and the ford puck system. I also love the drive modes.

I have a 2020 powerstroke. I’m assuming the 2023 exhaust brake works the same. Exhaust brake has 2 modes, on and automatic. Exhaust brake on: This mode turns the exhaust brake on where it is “always on”. Basically when the gas pedal is not depressed it will engage. Exhaust brake automatic: this behaves a little different. Basically it tries to maintain a specific speed. Once you take your foot off the gas, whatever speed you are going at that instance, the exhaust brake tries to maintain that speed (It doesn’t ever accelerate the truck, it only keeps the truck from increasing speed - well tries to keep the truck from increasing speed). Another way to set the speed in this mode is to press the brake pedal. What ever speed you are going when you take your foot off the brake, it will try to maintain that speed. In my opinion the exhaust brake works great when going at a high speed (60+ mph) and/or a shallow decline. No complaints there. Where the exhaust brake runs short on performance is at slower speeds (like 35 mph down a 7%+ decline) and/or steep declines. It will rev that engine up to 3500rpm to TRY to keep you slowed down. It really doesn’t do a very good job. Overall it’s much better than nothing, but can use some drastic improvements

Thanks! Appreciate the detail. And agreed..... it's better than nothing..... but not "great" like the other ones.

The RAM has an amazing and very classy looking instrument cluster. The all digital does start to look a bit gimmicky.

Yup. Agreed. Analog is better. (Especially the one in the Ram.) The only caveat is that you can set the Ford’s screen up to give you some really useful info. 🤷‍♂️

@@ArmyProperty yes sir they do, I will be ordering a F350 SRW but the perfect truck would look more like the Ram, the back seat of the Ram and the powertrain of the Ford.
@ArmyProperty
@ArmyProperty 10 ай бұрын
@@Captain-Awesome it's funny you say that. If we could design the "perfect" truck it would have 6.7 Cummins (due to overall reliability and simplicity of repair), probably the Allison 1000 6-speed or maybe the Aisin, and the Ford's body & interior. The 6.7 PowerStroke is an unbelievably strong engine, but its long-term durability & maintenance costs are making us cringe. The engine compartment is packed tighter than anything we've ever seen.

@@ArmyProperty Ha! It’s the back seat of the RAM I like most, it will slide forward and the back lays back and a mega cab has space for days. I guess there will never be a perfect truck in everyone’s eyes. If I could have an inline-6 reliably and power of the Ford that would certainly be a great start for me anyway.

The brake rotor diameter om a 2023 F350 DRW is 14.29 inches The F450 with a box is 15.5 inches
@ArmyProperty
@ArmyProperty Жыл бұрын
Good to know. So it's more than an inch bigger. That adds up to more swept area, and more mechanical advantage because the brake pads have a longer lever arm on the rotors (assuming roughly equal tire diameter). Thanks

I just had my brakes done on a 2011 F250 with 120k miles. I have a Platinum ordered so I have a question or two. If you drive with the cruise control, does that override the exhaust brake? I like coasting a lot since it helps my fuel mileage. I get 20-22 MPG, not hauling using Cruise Control as often as possible. The ONLY time I would want exhaust braking would be when I exceeded the CC speed down a grade. We have some decent mountain passes here in Oregon and with cruise or just dropping into a lower gear, I still rarely ever touch the brakes. I pull a 10k trailer and then use the manual tranny shifting so we shall see what difference the exhaust brake makes.

Theoretically the exhaust brake could hurt your MPG's a little bit, because it slows you down when going down steep descents, so you don't carry as much momentum forward after the ground levels off. But most people are glad to trade off some MPG's for the vastly improved safety that you get from having much more control on the downhill.

Good video, well explained. I'm driving a 2023 F350. exhaust brake behaves the same as my 2017 did. Can't compare I have never had anything other than PowerStroke . BTW I agree the HO option is totally unnecessary for the majority of owners (Other than Hot shot) but those the guys with the ego issues will pay the extra $2500 for the red badge.

Exhaust brake makes a world of difference, when headed downhill. Engine brake will work aggressively to keep the truck from getting away from you.

Folks with the HO are reporting 1.5-2mpg better than the stock 6.7, so that would eventually pay for itself.

H.O. not even close to those number. And the DEF usage is about 30 to 35% more. The 6.7 little diesel is a work horse. When you compare numbers. But... if you buy either motor for fuel economy, I would suggest a Honda.
