2023 BMW iX | Luxury EV Family Review

I own one. We drove from Dallas to Seattle, to Los Angeles(on the coast) with the whole family. Car is amazing to drive, supremely quiet and comfortable. Best car I ever had so far!

I think it is fine. It's smaller on the road than other large SUVs. The interior is really nice IMO.

I own one. Oxide Grey exterior. Distinctive looking. Rides great. I have 2 years of free charging at Electrify America. I would be very disappointed if I had to pay for charging as it is expensive. Gasoline is cheaper.

Nothing that I can think of. Minor quibble - I have it set to lock automatically when I walk away from the vehicle. It will lock even if you leave your keys inside the car. Can't think of any other complaints.@@myemailiscool

I disagree with the statement "gasoline is cheaper". In GA, special EV rates during the lowest cost period (11p-7a, while I'm sleeping) allow me to fully charge, e.g. from 20% to 85%, for just under $1. Yes, $1! So charging up every 4-5 days means, at most, I'm paying $6. Do the math....

I was referring to gasoline being cheaper than charging at a public charger. Charging at home is always cheaper. But not everyone has a home charger. And if you go for a long trip, you have to use an expensive external charging system. @@kdsmclife7080

I’m just trying to understand why this vehicle had to be so distinctively unattractive 😬😬. It’s frumpy, it has the iconic love it or hate it beaver teeth grille, and it’s just odd for no reason. The interior is nice though, minus that screen that’s just sitting on the dash with that support structure near the passenger side. Great review as always Micah!

Absolutely HILARIOUS! Especially since - i have been a BMW fanatic & a proud owner of 4 different models.... The shape of this vehicle is painful! "What" were the Team on when designing & more consequently approving the design & style???

If you use carplay/AA you can access the Nav/phone/media with the top three buttons on the middle console and use the center wheel to scroll. BMW option packages keep changing with the iX50/60. Air suspension/rear steer/DAP are the major features I would get. The automated lane keeping/cc is very good and comes with the DAP. I don’t like the crystal features but the wood panel is a big improvement over piano black. The wood adds texture so you can feel the buttons without looking down.

If they had the courage to actually make it as functional as a true minivan, they would really have something bold and practical. As is, they chose to go bold with the square steering "wheel", a design that has been created and failed over and over again since at least 1922.

The look of the iX is growing on me. That grill though, if they could make it 25% smaller or color match it to the paint so it was visually less massive. Case and point I think the iX looks better in darker colors.

A terrible thing to say, but the forward looking rear 3/4 view (like at 17:56) is distinctly Chevy Bolt. I know, a horrible comparison, but the iX really does have far too many styling cues shared with the Bolt.

Cup holders are too out of the way. Difficult to get your cup. Need grab handles. Prefer sunshade. Rather have kidney grills than lung grills. Other than that I like it.

From an actual owner, the cup holders really work well. Monochromic roof actually works really good(I'm in TX, and it works).

Super interesting car, great performance, versatility, etc. High tech back-up feature, neat navigation system, great car sounds, and typical overkill infotainment that should be automatically pared down to basics when the passenger?copilot seat is empty. After that: apparently the switchgear design and ergonomics intern was not being supervised during the iX development. Likewise, whoever suggested and got approval for the rectangular steering wheel a: does not actually drive cars or b: is unaware that this was tried (and failed) iby Gabriel Voisin (1922), Chrysler (1960-1964), British Leyland in the Allegro with the super name "quartic" (1972-1974), and a Honda show car in 2017. Surely there have been others that withered away in ignomy. F1 and Indy cars seem to be the only automotive place where square steering "wheels" seem to stick. Gutsy move BMW!

I was shopping for a new SUV EV recently, looked at the iX but $84k for 315 mi's and 195kW charging speed did not stack up against a $50k, 330 mi's, 250kW charging speed Tesla Model Y, that gets the FULL tax credit, so my actual price is: $42,500. I bought the Model Y and couldn't care less about silly glass knobs and buttons, they're super ugly and outdated. BMW will never compete unless they match the price and performance of Tesla, or exceed it. I've owned 3 BMW 3-series' and have loved them but, I'm not paying an extra $41,500 for an inferior car but I am buying my wife a Model Y also.
