So people only complain about door handles and other electronic buttons in cars, but never complain about electronic button inside something like elevators or people's houses?
@ztpgarage
@ztpgarage 2 жыл бұрын
@@automation7295 honestly, it’s not even the button. It’s the fact you have to grab somewhere else, especially on the rear door on the body. With a door handle I don’t have to worry about prints or scratches. And buttons do fail, where door handles in my experience don’t.
@watchreport
@watchreport 2 жыл бұрын
@@ztpgarage they complicated it just to be different. They could have done push handles where the handle pushes out when you tap on it or when you get close with key fob like so many others, but they did different and complicated to try and stand out and in my opinion they failed miserably. If anything they should have removed the handle altogether and just had the doors open with the key fob and then you grab it from the inside and pull it open. Still stupid but better then how they implemented it.

Doug’s point at the end really hits it on the head for me. I don’t necessarily want something like an EQS where the whole vehicle is so focused on showing us the future that it misses out on some of the more mundane necessities for a car. I just want a normal Lexus LS, that happens to be electric.

I just wanted to point out (for those unaware) is that the thinking/reason for an electronic button for the glove box is that when you put your car in "Valet Mode" for valet parking, it prevents valets from rifling through your glove box. I have a 2016 Cadillac ELR (which also does not have a manual button for the globe box). When you put the car in "Valet Mode", it also locks out certain functions of the infotainment as well as the glove box. It also keeps you from opening the trunk.
@lamenamethefirst
@lamenamethefirst 2 жыл бұрын
Here's an idea. We could put a revolutionary new technology on glove boxes called a lock, which when used can only be opened with something called a key. Oh wait. I just find is silly that their idea of safety and privacy for the 10% of the time it'll be used by a valet, is to also make things more difficult for the owner 90% of the time. There's an easier way. Everything doesn't have to be shoved into the infotainment system. The concept of valet keys already exist. Just program the valet key to be able to only start the car and have limited functionality. Just like the doors are radio controlled and unlocked by the presence of the car key, so can the glove box. Problem solved.

A heritage Easter egg. The disguised button popper to open the access door for the plug-in links back to the fuel filler hidden behind the left tail light in 40s & 50s Cadillacs. The sales they gain by selling to Californians who think that feature is cool heavily outweigh the very few sales they're losing in Ohio. They lose 90% of their range in the cold weather anyways, I doubt door poppers are your main problem. That being said, I agree they're dumb. A thought popped in my head about the screen operated glove boxes increasingly being seen in more and more vehicles these days. As per my theory, it might be a substitute for the lockable glove box back in the days when keys used to be a thing. Now with more and more cars going keyless, more manufacturers are integrating glove box openers in the screens so they can't be accessed without the key in the car. Just a way to integrate lockable storage inside the car without the use of keys. P.s. either I just figured out a mystery or might be too late to realise this.

I refused to buy GM for over 30 years due to horrible experiences in the 90’s. I then, reluctantly, decided to support a family member who works there and got me a deal on a 12 month 21’Cadillac CT5 lease. I absolutely loved it. Car was perfect from the day I got it ‘till I returned it. I now have a ‘22 Yukon Denali and while I’m enjoying it, preferred the Caddy and the features it had that are lacking on the GMC. Like auto hold and massaging seats. Spoiled, I know. I know await the ‘23 Lyric and will receive soon. Excited for my first electric, and while not perfect, it’s not 100K, either, and as stated by Doug, is a really nice ride. I can’t wait.

The Model Y is not hard to get, the performance model is being delivered by the end of December and the long range version is being delivered with in 3 months for the customs. They are made in the new Texas factory with all American part, which is still ramping up production. Car and Driver puts it as the 13th most popular car in the world. The Lyriq is way behind and that wait list will get longer with the massive recall because the screens were shutting down for people in the middle of driving. Well you can dislike the look, but GM is still in a spiral ever since Obama took them over. I'm one of those people that is more interested in having something normal and familiar but electric and this is coming from someone who's also very technology centric as well. I just feel that with EVs in particular, there's been too much focus on putting technology where it doesn't need to be. A good example of that is an electronic opener for the glovebox. That's just a solution looking for a problem and there's a lot of that going on with cars today. I'm more of a fan of something like the Mercedes EQB. On a good note, it is "kind of nice" once the roads are repaired (not endless dodging literally holes and objects) and lines are painted for the most part - you get reminded how nice those are.

I recommend a weighted Doug score scale where the daily drive score values carry 5/7ths of the overall score weight. This would make more sense since it's rare that an average buyer would purchase just for weekend use.

Would make sense for usual new cars, but for classics or modern supercars, that would kind of kill the purpose of the Doug score for those.

Been thinking about replacing my Velar (since the warranty's going to expire soon and the car's nothing but headaches), was considering electric but wasn't really drawn to any of the EVs on the market. But this looks like a contender.
