2023 Camaro ZL1 1LE Manual Review Is The Sledgehammer! The Camaro ZL1 1LE is not a newcomer to the American Muscle Car segment but this track focused model was first introduced in 2018 but these cars are so rare and hard to find it took me years to finally get a chance to make these videos for the channel. In this video I highlight the unique differences between the GM Alpha platform and the S550 Mustang platform. I discuss quality of the build inside and out and of course the driving dynamics of this car on the streets of NY. The LT4 powertrain and Tremec TR6060 6 Speed are perfectly in harmony with this car in every scenario. Power delivery is addictive to input any throttle on a stretch of open road. The chassis is rock solid and the Multimatic coilovers are tuned so incredible once your on the right pavement. The Brembo brakes could be better as I mention the Shelby GT350R and GT500 do stop better and have better initial bite. The Camaro ZL1 1LE uses a sophisticated E Diff controlled by the GM Performance Traction Management software and it is definitely a unique attribute in this class of cars that is not used in Ford and the Dodge products. The 6th Gen Camaro ZL1 1LE seating position and pedal placement are also better for my anatomy than the S550 Mustang platform and the car is just a pure joy to drive. With sinister aggressive styling, a comfortable cabin with awesome Recaro multi way seats this is one of my favorite cars I ever had to chance to experience. Hope you enjoy this video and we will bring the ZL1 1LE back in a few months for some higher speed twisty backroad POV drives to really see what this machine can do.

Can anyone comment and tell me the exact number of ZL1 1 LE manufactured since 2018-2024 run? Do you also know the breakdown between manual and 10 speed auto versions. Thank you

This will take some time as there were so few produced into 2024. The 10speed came in 2019….bulk of ZL1 production was 2017-2020. Let me see if I can add em up in a few days. Keep uploading I’ll tell you

I feel fortunate to have a 2023 ZL1 and I noticed when I’m in the passing lane on a highway cars in front of me immediately get over where as when I’m in my truck with the same scenario they don’t move over . Those ZL1’s look intimidating all right .

Nice little Easter egg, when seated with the seatbelt fastened, pull it all out till the end and let it go, the belt fastens in place and keeps you locked in to the seat secured. I come from a 2017 2SS into a 2017 zl1 I’m a blue collar guy and love what these American manufacturers did at the end with the v8’s they are truly fast cars that demand respect with the pedals, enjoy and great review 🙏🏻

This will definitely be a legendary/highly sought after collector’s Camaro in the next 10 years or so. Hell, it already is with the amount of numbers and lap times it has put down since 2018. It’s no wonder why the last Camaro ever built (for now I guess), was a manual ZL1 1LE. These things are gonna be worth so much one day, I think. Having this monster next to a 5th gen Z/28 is true garage goals for me!

Excellent technical review, loved the talk about the aluminum strut towers and the shortcomings of this particular Brembo set-up. I live on the other side of the river, the roads here do suck especially since that last reasonable snowstorm, so many potholes that need attention. Looks like they're finally starting to fill some of them. All the best, enjoy that stable 👍🏽

Awesome review! I have a CTSV wagon (automatic) and I’m researching its future replacement (I wish I could keep it but…). The ZL1 with a manual seems to be the one (or a CT5V Blackwing) for me. I can also clearly see your video shows the 1LE ride is smoother with the tires you swapped out. Videos with the OE tires show the 1LE is bouncing around like crazy. I have Lyme and now arthritis in my spine but this speed freak isn’t sacrificing my fast cars just yet. Thanks man!

Great review! Drove my students ZL1 1LE at Watkins Glen 2 years ago while he sat passenger, he wanted to see what it can do. Well the car is great out of the box, so great i was running 2:05's and running it 8/10's with him in the car. if it was my car 10/10ths.... its a Sub 2 min car at the Glen without a doubt. I loved every min of it, but i did feel the weight as i pushed it.

it is a serious machine I do wish they spent more time reducing weight at least 200lbs or so but it boogies and needs a track to really extract what this machine can do on our roads it is almost deadly to wreck or get arrested but I am still getting used to it.

One idea is for you to swap out the DSSV coils for Fortune Auto 510s. This is considering you are not tracking the car. The FA dampers are way better for the roads where you are. Keep the DSSV in storage as a backup IF you ever sell the car.

Thank you for this review and comparison. Love your content. I used to have a regular ZL1 10 Speed, tuned on E to 620 WHP with a Borla S Type exhaust (perfect tone IMO), sold it and now cross shopping the GT350, Quadrifoglio and the ZL1/ZLE. Have driven them all, but only had 10 mins seat time in the gt350. My focus is getting the most thrilling car out of the three but I'm conflicted. Since you're one of the few people that have owned all three, which would you go for if you we're in my position?
@autofanaticcars
@autofanaticcars 4 ай бұрын
Depends on price your willing to spend but the three are all awesome the QV is best as a daily i feel because of the automatic and dual personality it has. I still will say no other modern car will give you what a Shelby GT350 can. But you have to want and like the noise, vibrations and tram line etc. there are several GT350 on the market and Alfa but only 2 ZL1 1LE and there 50 k over sticker. Let me know what you decide but since you already owned a ZL1 I say go for a Shelby GT350R you won’t be disappointed in the drive every single moment you spend behind the wheel
@northener99
@northener99 4 ай бұрын
@@autofanaticcarsReally appreciate your swift feedback. My wife would kill me if I asked her advice again lol. I think the GT350 is where my heart is at. I love the dual personality of the QV, but I just don't know if it will thrill me long term. I rented one on Turo for a couple of days and did some mountain driving in the QV. Such a fun car. I've never been one to let practicality rule me but having a 2 year old has changed that (a bit). Still we have a Tesla as a daily so no worries there. But for a fun family weekend trip car, spirited driving with some friends in the mountains, car meets, I think GT350 will tick most of my boxes. Thanks for letting me rant haha. I'll let you know what I decide and thanks again. Looking forward to your next video.

You pretty much hit the point on why I haven't upgraded to a ZLE from my ss 1le, ZLE way too much car for the road. Maybe I would consider it if I had another daily- GM has a specified track alignment for the 1LE which I highly recommend: tire life will go down of course if you are only driving it on the road. Got it a few months ago and on the way home from the shop had a small round about, front end grip was insane and then it was a bit wet so had the rear step out a bit: most fun I had all week.

No matter what you decide to do with this car just enjoy every minute of it! One of my favorite parts is the rev match downshifting, it sounds awesome. awesome the car on cold damp roads like I did this video is really sketchy but come spring I can take a proper drive. For some reason when the traction breaks it kicks the rear to the left and then a split second later the E diff corrects this I wonder if the modes can be adjusted so it reacts quicker to make both wheels lock up more consistantly if anyone here knows?

GT350 is quite different and incredible in many ways I do miss mine and have been looking to pick up another one soon, the ZL1 is a better chassis and much more developed platform but equally as awesome to drive and enjoy. This is the last chance to ever experience cars like this considering how grim the future looks because of politics and regulations ruining it.

your absolutely right the weather is still too cold in NY to really take any of these cars out and fully enjoy hopefully next month I will get a chance to hit some backroads. Another issue is the power this thing makes where as taking a GT350R and enjoying full revs and the gearing is easy on backroads but the Zl1 is very hard to even get out of 2nd gear on most backroads. It is ideally suited for a large professional rack track I can now see, street usability is limited for fun/ The suspension can be very harsh on bad road for sure but on the highway and smooth back roads it feels perfect

You think 650HP is fun….take a glimpse back to 2002 and having 600HP out of a C5R 427 under the hood!!!!! yeeehaaaawww. No but honestly these 6 gens are so amazing and the best bang for the buck in my opinion. Ok so i love my modified 800hp ZL1 1LE but i owned a 21 GT500 for About 2 years and IMO the GT500 handled better. I felt more confident hitting corners at higher speeds in the GT500 and Stock it felt faster than the modified ZL1 1LE but that’s just a butt dyno so I’m sure it just felt like that. Stock for stock GT500 definitely a good amount faster but one has to account for the 7 speed DCT vs a 6 speed manual which I believe is the big difference maker when it comes to speed or power difference. As far as the handles i only can go by street handles on secluded roads where to me the GT500 handles better and feels more grounded and sticky whereas the ZL1 1LE feels more loose in the rear which gives me less confidence which is why i say GT500 handles better. I will say the front suspension feels more direct in the ZL1 so i can see why some may feel like the ZL1 1LE handles better like this guy is saying. Both are incredible cars and mine will soon be a full blown Exorcist version making roughly 1000hp when it’s finished in a couple of weeks. Most of work we did so just now adding the Gen 5 3 liter whipple, bigger heat exchanger, Mcleod 1200 rxt clutch added to all the other work that we already had done to make it an exorcist build. Texas speed stage 3 Cam, AR LT headers, built and ported heads, forged internals, main studs, auxiliary pump, Rotofab intake, Corsa extreme, and more. Now getting the whipple, bigger TB, Injectors, Heat exchanger, clutch etc…. When she is done I compare it to my modified 426 hellcat Magnuson 2650 Challenger E-85 1200hp and to the GT500 based off memory of how the Shelby drove.

I honestly feel the S550 platform for the Mustang GT500 does feel more confident and grip out back however the earlier 16-19 GT350R front ends feel more lively and twitchy like a track car which I prefer where as the ZL1 1LE front is very balanced and neutral, the Zl1 front end does feel better than the 2020-22 GT500 because Ford revised the front geometry to make it easier to live with but it really numbed it down a bit compared to the earlier GT350 models. The DCT is way faster than any human can shift but I do prefer shifting for more fun and the Gt500 is a bit heavier but has different gearing and more power to feel faster for sure. two very different cars both are awesome

I noticed you said the back end wasn’t as hooked up as the S550. I beg to disagree having driven every iteration of that platform. You have to dial in negative camber in the ZLE with 0 Toe Front and 0.05 Toe In Rear. Different car completely at that point and it’s ready to pounce like a bat out of hell! The rear subframe has no rubber bushings, it’s hard mounted to the chassis for one reason - transmit/communicate what the rear end does to the driver and hook up! You also need to soften up the rear swaybar. It will help settle the car better on backroads. Here’s a link on how to do it - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gH2sZ62knLmqqq8si=gKn6zK2rksW32i1f
