That ZL1 is a race car. That car look like it just made for the track racing.. On the highway I'll have to be in the SS 1LE. The ZL1 is a investment how I feel. I'll hold it for 30 years brand new.

Thanks Mike for the video very informative, nice comparison. I have a question do you know what type of improvement will add the performance exhaust that GM offers as part of the options? And do you know if adding this exhaust would delete the double exhaust mode?

As a ZL1/1LE owner…on a racetrack - no contest. ZL1/1LE puts down power better…it did 7:16 at the Nurburgring after all. Things that people don’t know - The Aero was developed at the Mercedes F1 Wind Tunnel. The rear glass is thinner for less sound insulation and weight. The front lower grill is very different and chugs in 106cu.ft more air than the base ZL1. The wheels are forged unlike cast wheels for most Vettes to date. You can brake harder beyond the ABS threshold in the ZLE and there is no ICE mode. The 6spd has a shorter ratio in 6th gear to go like a bat out of hell in any gear. The ZLE has a solid subframe where the chassis is bolt to the body with little to no rubber. What it means is information and confidence at the limit. The stock GY3R tires are for track only with very stiff sidewalls. Most change to the Michelin PS4S for the street and it changes the ride immensely. The ZLE is GM’s version of the GT3RS. In short - lots more easter eggs.

Solid info boss - I forgot about the rear glass totally :) Yeah the car is indeed a serious track weapon and I did give a GT3 a run for it’s money ;) I like the Goodyear 3R due to insane grip as I don’t bring it out in rain or cold at all!

All amazing info, and if I could add on as well: The ZL1 1LE also has under body strakes for additional aerodynamic efficiency on track, the suspension setup is multimatic DSSVs, and the huge carbon fiber wing, and dive planes + splitter are race derived. And, it also comes STOCK with R comps. So in short, the ZL1 1LE is indeed a GT3 RS for the Camaro, is a track focused car first and foremost, and is the most ultimate ICE Camaro that’ll likely ever be built. It’s the big daddy.

I've had both.. I sold the ZL1 1LE and and bought ANOTHER SS1LE.. I really enjoyed the ZLE,, but in the end, it was so overkill that it wasn't as fun to drive in 99% of my driving scenarios. In the end, I sold it for ALOT more than I spent on it when the market was crazy high on used cars and later bought a brand new 2023 SS 1LE. Super happy to be back in a SS 1LE.

Agree,, the SS makes more sense to most of we "average Jane and Joe" drivers and I'm betting in the real world it will sell easier, better and at a greater price than will the ZL1. The ZL1 is attractive to the HIGH PERFORMANCE Camaro enthusiast but in reality WHERE can you experience all it has to offer than on a track and how many of us have the time or inclination to find one. We drive up and down the "streets" of America therefore the more streetable car is more desirable. Just say'n 🙂

This 100% helped me. I currently drive a 2019 GTI and plan on keeping it as a daily when I get my next car. It's fun and practical. For a while I was really deadset on getting a 21+ Mach 1 with the tremec. Then I saw how much cheaper the SS was with the 1LE package. I was looking at ZL1 1LE's as well. Just like you had mentioned, I want to also be able to put 100% of the power to the ground on the street and not worry as much about losing traction. Did not know it did not have the magnetic ride suspension. For me, that's a big selling point. I've never had a car with it and would love to experience it. Another selling point is the torque and power curve of the LT1 compared to the Coyote. I'll test drive one eventually but I do like the idea of how much more usable the entire torque curve is in the LT1. So now I'm looking to get an SS 1LE by the end of the year. Not sure if I want to get a lightly used one or build one to my own liking from the factory for the final model year. I have no doubt they are, but the LT1 is a pretty reliable engine right? Even with a good chunk of mileage on it? P.S. Found your channel about a week ago and love the content! Very informative. New subscriber

@Tyler, Appreciate your post. As an SS1LE owner, do yourself a favor and GET this car! You can put ALL the power down and the chassis tuning allows you to feel “one” with the vehicle. There’s a reason a driver like Randy Pobst has given this car such high praise. It’s a driver’s car! Next, the LT1 is VERY RELIABLE. Mine’s a 2018 and it’s had ZERO issues. Lastly, make sure you get the 6-Speed manual for maximum driver involvement. Hope this helps!
@GoodKong.BadKong

LT1 engine is also direct injection only, so eventually you're gonna have to get the engine serviced to clean up all the carbon build up, I don't know how expensive that'll be but I'm guessing its not gonna be cheap. The Coyote engine is both port and direct injection. Ford did this so that you won't ever have to service the engine for carbon build up.

Another life long Texan here, 4 years ago I test drove 3 ZL1'S all used, 2 were 1LE's they broke my heart on the rough ride. Found a white ZL1 with all OEM 1LE parts added, with 2700 miles, she's been with me for 4 years and almost 30K, magnetic ride is wonderful, and I will eventually get to COTA with it. The SS sounds louder due to higher compression, my ZL1 has borla Atak cat back, it speaks to your soul and everyone around you .😂
@historyisaguide

The ZL1-1LE has wider front fenders, thinner glass, also has parts that you add underneath to help with airflow that come in a box in the trunk when you get it new, when I got my ZL1-1LE, although it was very difficult to get (waited a year) the SS-1LE was even harder to get. I don't daily mine, and if I had to, I would definitely say the SS-1LE or regular ZL1 would be a more livable choice. The ZL1-1LE also has a completely different front fascia than the reg ZL1, beyond just the dive planes, it eliminates the led lights, and has additional scoops around the central grille opening, hard to notice unless u see them side by side. I really liked this video, because I really feel like these 2 are going to be Camaros that people will want, and will be the ones that hold their value. 👍👍👍🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

It's not a daily only have 2200 miles on it right now but I enjoy driving it every time I get it out. I probably could have ordered it without a sound system, I rarely listen the radio because I love the sound of that LT1 engine. So, for me the SS 1LE was a much better option because of $20,000 difference and I can put full power to the road without traction issues. It's also a fly looking ride.

I was omw to drive the ZLE and saw the freshly traded SS 1LE at local Chevrolet dealer. Decided to stop and take a look at the SS 1LE took it for a drive keeping in mind this is pretty much be my DD except for couple months or rain. Id heard all the things about the ride of ZLE making it almost impossible to DD, loved the 2SS 1LE and never went to drive the ZLE. I love my 2SS 1LE but been thinking maybe I made a mistake. Great video, MIke! I'm going on 3 years of owning my ZL1 1LE and still enjoying it. No doubt its a harsher ride but I like it. I get stopped so many times when getting gas and if you go through a drive thru, someone is usually going to compliment the car hah so definitely don't get one if you don't want to talk to people! Best thing I have done on my ZL1 1LE was switching to the Michelin Pilot 4S tires, huge difference from the Goodyear Supercar 3R tires that came stock for daily driving. It's funny I drive mine in manual mode for the Auto all the time. The shifts with the A10 are much better than the 2016 Z06 A8 that I had.

Summary: it's boils down to $20K, which is the price you pay for another 200 hp - I have a 2023 ZL1 and it is a rocket ship with the ride of a baby carriage in Tour mode. By the time Mike puts all the "manual" upgrades on the SS the price gap drops, and in the end it's not about the quality of ride, it's about the initial price difference. I liked the video, but too much emphasis on the quality of ride between the SS and 1LE version of the ZL1 - if you can afford it, simply get the ZL1 without the 1LE package and you'll NEVER regret it. Thanks again Mike, another great video.

The ZL1 1LE is a track car first, and street car second. It’s a VERY focused and serious car, and while the SS 1LE is a serious machine as well, it’s less harsh and just dead set focused on road course work than the Z is. I mean, the ZL1 1LE comes STOCK with multimatic DSSV shocks, under body aero strakes, R compound tires, race derived aero etc. The SS is plenty and then some for most people; the ZL1, especially in 1LE trim is a monster and a half.

I love that ZL1 in white! I too got the SS 1LE in Wild Cherry Tintcoat as I honestly couldn't justify the extra money as I knew I wouldn't be able to take full advantage of it. The SS is already fast as crap man and although it would lose in a drag, I wanted the cornering ability first and foremost. It's hard to find a decent price for the ZL1 but I got a smoking deal on my SS. It would have cost me more than $20K to get a comparable used ZL1 and it just didn't work for me. I will say though, the motor build of the entire LT4 is really enticing. IMO it is one of the best performance motors being built right now, very freaking stout!

Unless you’re going to the track every weekend a ZL1 is overkill. I had a buddy that trade in his zl1 for an SS. Although the ZL1 is the ultimate camaro you can’t actually use that horsepower power on the freeway or in the city without getting pulled over.

Sound's like my decision to buy an R/T Scat Pack Wide Body over a SRT Hellcat. I wanted a manual, I wanted to be able to throw it around a bit without being terrified, and wanted something a bit more poised in the twisites than the big Hellcat, I am not a pro driver so nearly 500HP and a torque curve that hits right off idle is at the limits of my skill for a road course. To top it off, it was like 60k fully loaded with the shaker vs a Hellcat that was about 80k. Yes, I track my Challenger.

@@danaberman6929 manuals are pretty much done. If I went zl1 next it have to be a m6. The thing about the zl1 is that it looks just like a SS. The SS is the better car, not faster, but better. SS 1LE will put better lap times on more technical tracks and on tracks with more straights it will slightly be behind the ZL1 1LE. The better car will also include the miles you drive before fueling up, SS gets the upper hand in that field.

The ZL1 presses all the buttons without a doubt. But (yup always a "but") you can't get it with a manual transmission. I'm sure the transmission is not an issue for most here and in reality, it wouldn't be for me either if I had a bad knee or hip. Then without a doubt it would definitely be the ZL1. Well I think the other big reason would be price, you can get a 2ss 1LE for about 40-50k, a USED ZL1 1LE will cost you around 130k for a supercharger. No brainier the SS 1LE is a MUCH better value unless you are seriously racing that car, no track day but RACING that car, then its a good value.
