Well, my affliction for new machines kicked in high gear since we've had some really cold and gloomy weather lately! I decided to trade in my 2020 Polaris Sportsman 850 premium instead of paying for a whole new clutch and belt assembly. BUT.. I was still pretty happy with the Polaris Sportsman 850 premium so I just figured that I would trade it in for a new 2023 Polaris Sportsman 850 premium. So after looking at Honda, Yamaha and Polaris I went ahead and put down a deposit on a 2023 Polaris Sportsman 850 premium with camo. I had to order some upgrades to set it up like I want it, including a winch, front and rear bumpers and some front and rear steel racks. So, I loaded up my 2020 Polaris Sportsman 850 premium and headed in to Powersports of America, located in Paducah, Kentucky for the final trade in a purchase. But a strange thing happened when I got there. My new Sportsman 850 premium was sitting outside in the 'sold' area but there was a very beautiful and rugged looking 2023 Can Am Outlander 850 XT in camo, sitting right next to it. So, needless to say the beautiful 2023 Can Am 850 Outlander XT got my attention. Join me for today's episode as I test drive both ATV's and make a swift change after the test drives! Grats on the new machine, fun times ahead. My biggest complaint with my 21 Outlander was the maintenace. I felt like I was chasing down a squeak before and after each ride, went through a ton of marine grease and lubricant. Also, while the visco lok 4 wheel drive is better than limited slip, it's not true 4 wheel drive as this model doesn't have a locking front diff. The power though is a blast and I hope it does you well. Next time, test drive a new Grizzly 😉. Polaris ride quality with Honda reliability and build quality. Cheers!
@kapperoutdoors
@kapperoutdoors Жыл бұрын
I had a Brute Force and really liked it! From what I've read the new visco lock "QE" is what I have that is supposed to be a big improvement over others, maybe like yours? The QE is 'quick engage' so they definitely improved it. I will definitley test it to see if it truly locks the front diff, or if it kind of comes in and out, as the front tire turn. I'm hoping that once it kicks in, that it stays in automatically for some time, but I'll try to find out! Thanks and happy trails!

I have the 23 sportsman 850 ute and think it's great. I haven't gotten to ride a can am yet. I have sat on a few and feel like they're pretty stiff. Coming from a Polaris everything is stiff. Itp mudlite xtr. I've gone through 3 sets across 2 machines and 13000km. Btw sport mode on the intelligent throttle control means wheelies. As for your gripe about the clutch on the Polaris, hitting your clutches with compressed air every 1000km or so will keep them from being jerky. It's not just a Polaris thing.
@kapperoutdoors
@kapperoutdoors Жыл бұрын
As for the Polaris, I've known that belt engagement hesitation on most every one I've had. Although I have never cleaned them as you suggest so you may be right, but for the average non mechanical person they do have that reputation. Yeah, wheelies should not be in my 'opportunities!' LOL That could be bad!! But looking forward to some trail riding! Thanks

You know the Polaris ultimate trail has all that stuff the outlander has. You keep comparing the outlander xt to the Polaris premium trim. Is the xt directly competing with Polaris premium trim or is it a step up? Like I said, the Polaris ultimate trail has the front and rear bumpers, winch, and led lights. Just seems like another Polaris hate video. I tried the Canned Ham’s and didn’t like them. To each their own. I will say this every machine should have LED’s standard, from base model up. These companies also need to step up their game and update their screens. These things should have the same screens as new vehicles. The technology is there and isn’t expensive.
@kapperoutdoors
@kapperoutdoors Жыл бұрын
This was definitely not a Polaris hate video! I have had many Polaris machines over the years and I have a Polaris Ranger XP1000 Northstar now that we enjoy. Just trying to lay out the options as objectively as possible that's all.

Seems like a Honda or Yamaha would have been a better choice for an ATV that was going to be used for work. The Honda Rubicon or forman would be much better on fuel, quieter, gears instead of a belt, and of course the honda reputation. A yamaha kodiak would also be a good choice. Constant belt tension and a 10 year belt warranty. Still a great reputation for quality, still better on fuel than a 850 twin.
@kapperoutdoors
@kapperoutdoors Жыл бұрын
I considered the Honda Rubicon, but felt that I just needed more power. Then I really got excited about the Honda 680 Rincon, but they do not offer power steering with it! It's always a tough call in situations like this. I did like the warranty though as you said on the Yamaha. Makes you believe they really beefed it up. But we'll see, it's another life experience and adventure! Thanks

Why do people think these atv's ride and operate as smooth as an automobile. They don't. You're being nit-picky. Why make video's of what you bought ?? Nobody cares. Buy what you want, what works for you, what's cheaper, what's faster. Let people make up their own minds.
@kapperoutdoors

Well I'd say that contrary to your statement, many people do look for other input when comparing and buying machines. People usually appreciate other people's points of view and experiences when it comes to researching and testing out machines. We've got tons of feedback over the years from people shopping machines and they do appreciate insights from others when comparing machines. So, actually a lot of people do care since the more insights and points of view they can glean, the more educated they will be when it comes to their own test rides and purchasing. Thanks
