Looks like the "second requirement" for the tax credit is now on hold, and the Bolts should now qualify for the entire 7500 credit this year... or at least until March of 2023.

That's an excellent point, and it makes the Bolt EV and EUV even better bargains, at least for the time being. News broke this week that the government is delaying the implementation of the materials-sourcing requirement for the EV tax credit until (at least) March. Thanks for pointing this out!

We own a 2022 Bolt LT2 and love it. Great car. It's fun and efficient. Yes it's a small car but some of us like driving small cars. Beating the EPA estimates is really easy to do in the non winter months, we were getting over 300 miles of range in mostly town driving. 230ish range on the highway. Now that winter is here, it is closer to 200 city, 180 highway. But for our daily driving that is still more than enough. Last weekend we took it for a 560 mile round trip. In temperatures in the teens and a 15 to 20 mile per hour head wind. Yes we spent more time charging (about an hour each leg) than other EVs would need, but considering I saved at least $12,000 over those other faster charging EVs, for the 2 or 3 times a year I will be making those types of trips I can wait. Plus we got to check out some new restaurants while it was charging.

I picked up a 2022 Bolt EUV back in July and haven't looked back, completely loving the commuter car. Prior to this I was using an Audi S5 or Honda Accord Hybrid as my commuter vehicles. The only negative in my opinion are the seats, not nearly as comfortable as an Audi but then again it's twice the price! Plus you can buy aftermarket thigh support if you're truly uncomfortable (it looks a bit ghetto but comfort is more important). Overall I don't regret my first EV purchase - Chevy even installs the 240V outlet and charger for free! Doesn't get much better then that.

We put a deposit on a 2023 Bolt EUV Premiere Redline that's in transit. The requirement for the battery is on hold till March so the Bolt does qualify for the full $7500 tax credit. Also in NY there is a $2000 rebate other states have their own programs. However you must buy the Bolt from a NY dealer on the NYSERDA list and be a NY resident. A lot of reviewers just don't understand EV's. This reviewer is smirking about charging speed like it's a game changer but it's not. If you've been driving EV's for the last six years like me you'll love the Bolt, especially if you charge from home. The Bolts are two of the highest efficiency EV's you can buy and if you charge from home or an outlet at a condo or coop you get up every morning to 247 miles range or about 180 in winter. If you're like me who charges from his own PV you specifically look for an EV with high efficiency not charging speed. Higher efficiency means you maximize your PV, faster charging speed is meaningless unless you're taking long trips constantly which 95% of people driving don't. The average distance Americans drive in a day is ~30 miles. Taking the occasional trip and waiting longer for a full charge - so what, the only people who care are the reviewers. The Bolt is not a sports car and it doesn't try to be. It's a great, dependable car for living life, if you expect it to handle like a Porsche don't buy it but for everyone else it's hard to beat. Sales for the last two months are bearing out my sentiments, we love our Bolts and have for the last several years. We're just people, not race car drivers, you can't drive over the speed limit and the Bolt does that very well indeed!

I have reserved a 2023 Bolt EUV and hoping to get it sometime next year in March/April. The problem with buying an EV from mainstream auto makers is the greedy car dealers who try to take advantage of market and slap on a huge markup or add-ons that you can't remove when they reserve an EV for you. After going through several greedy Chevy dealers in and around the Central Florida area (Starling, Biniface-Heirs, Morgan, Wesley Chapel etc.), I did find one (Vann Ganaway) who said that they wouldn't put any mark-up or add-on to the car if I reserve through them. In the meantime, I have bought a Tesla 3 without going through any of the hassle that you have to go through with the mainstream auto makers, so next year, we will have two EVs in our household.

I currently drive a 2016 Chevy Spark EV for our 2nd car urban errands runner and I love it. I see the Bolt EUV/EV as a logical replacement in the future. I think the idea of a taller car like the EUV makes ingress/egress great for us old folks to get in and out of. My Spark is way easier to get in and out of than my 2004 GTO so vehicles like the EUV, Kia Soul, etc., work well for the typical retired persons vehicle needs. It seems the Bolts will eventually be replaced by the upcoming Equinox EV even though it will be a bigger vehicle. Like my Spark EV I don't believe the Bolts were meant to be the only vehicle in most American families but offer just enough range, performance, cargo capacity for shorter trips, although if I had one taking a 900+ mile trip to visit family once a year wouldn't be concerning to me especially as more charging stations come online. Averaging 4+ kWh per mile at highway speeds is pretty damn good too.

I've had my Bolt EUV 2023 for two weeks and I love it. Doesn't handle like the Tesla Model 3 but the Bolt is not a sports car. It proved to be pretty good on hard pack snow that was getting icy, although I grew up driving in snow. It's not AWD. I think it looks great and my friends were very impressed. I have a disability so the one pedal drive is making my commute so much easier. I'm a little nervous about taking a long trip next summer. Reliability of the charging stations seems to be an issue.

If you're willing to wait you can do what I did and order a build through the Chevy site. Dealers love selling these because they get a sale on a car they didn't have to have on their lot and so are usually happy to sell it for MSRP. And you get exactly what you want in terms of trim, color, options, etc. with no compromises. Maybe go to a different dealer than the one you went to first; to try to gouge you that much they don't deserve your business.

The slower you drive, the more range you get. At 60 MPH and not so cold it affects the battery, you can get over 300 miles. A bolt in California is more than enough range. That goes for most of the southwest and pacific north west, even though it gets colder in the winter in the north. One thing that is MUCH better in the EV is the turning radius diameter: EV = 34.8 / EUV = 38.3.

The cost is probably low enough that it doesn’t matter for this car but you should include depreciation as,part of total cost of ownership evaluation for vehicles you review. A,major consideration for EVs is the ability to upgrade vehicle systems and software over the air. Vehicles that do not have this ability is the same as buying a smart phone which does not provide software updates or the ability to download apps. Without this core tech, an ev will have very high depreciation

There is no “better” or “worse” EV in 2023 on the North American market. The choice is not so tremendously large. Each and every one of them HAS to be used for its intended purpose. For instance Bolt EUV is a perfect commuter in urban environment where tight parking is a problem and unmentioned excellent surrounding view camera is very useful. Despite having slow DC charging it has one of the fasted unmentioned AC charging speed at 11.5 kW and while commuting the latter matters more than DC charging speed. This is not intended for road tripping after all.

@msmith617 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the confusion! I just meant that the Bolt EUV's fast-charging rate was slower than that of some newer, more advanced EVs. You are correct: the Bolt EUV can charge on a DC fast charger, but only up to a certain rate. Because that rate of charge is slower than many DC fast chargers' max rate, the Bolt EUV can't maximize those charging stations' output. Chevy claims 95 miles (a bit less than 50% of the car's total range) in 30 minutes , but a Hyundai Ioniq 5, can add 70% charge in 18 minutes.

So the 2013 Volt is still much better. The Volt has two electric motors giving you blazing fast response even for 2013 and a "sport" mode that will earn you traffic tickets galore! Plus, if one motor fails, the other instantly takes over until you can get it repaired. The Volt was the survivalists car. A shame Chevrolet stripped down the Bolt EUV to basic off the shelf.

Buyer beware. 2022 Chevy Bolt Class Action Lawsuit A 2022 class action lawsuit is accusing General Motors of selling 2020-2022 model year Chevy Bolt EV and 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV vehicles that are unsafe and likely to catch on fire. Allegedly, the batteries in these cars are not fit for normal use because they become fire-prone when the cars are fully charged or go below 70 miles of remaining charge. About a month after the sole plaintiff leased his new 2022 Chevy Bolt, GM recalled the vehicle following reports of cars catching on fire. Over three recalls, GM has instructed drivers to limit the battery charge to 90 percent, not let the remaining range drop below 70 miles, supervise the vehicle while it is charging, and to not park the vehicle close to fire hazards. According to the suit, GM’s “warning that consumers should not charge the Vehicles past 90% drops the advertised mileage capacity from 259 to 233.10 miles. Taking into consideration that consumers cannot allow the miles remaining on the Vehicle to fall below 70 miles, the battery range falls further to 163.10 miles - that is, 62.97% of the advertised mileage.” The plaintiff says that he would not have leased a Chevy Bolt had he known about its limited use and safety risks. This recent 2022 class action suit is the latest in a string of lawsuits filed against GM over issues with Chevy Bolt EV and EUV batteries. A similar suit was filed on behalf of 30 plaintiffs in Michigan in December of 2021. Two other suits regarding fire-prone lithium batteries were filed in 2020.

I just always liked smaller cars, since my very first one. I like how maneuverable they are, how easy to get in and out of parking spaces, how you don't bang your doors against other peoples' cars or walls, how I'm not worried about narrow car lanes as much, how I know where the boundaries of the vehicle are that make it easier to zip around town. And they're less wasteful. There's usually just me in the car.

I have 2022 BOLT euv premiere with super cruise and 2021 tesla model 3 performance. The bolt super cruise is only OK imo. Normal fwy works great but the same fwy during traffic low speed the car bounce left n right within the lane, sometimes force you to take over the wheel and rare occasion super cruise are not available on same fwy. What I like about bolt over tesla, it has panorama roof with power close and HD rear view mirror camera (you didn't mention in video). Overall I would take base model 3 over fully loaded bolt.

Tyranny only comes in three forms. Denial of resources, social status, or the physical. If you think about resources the denial of a home and or transportation are the two largest forms of tyranny. People who can continuously dictate the price of these can create for themselves a dictatorship. Is there democracy when dictators exist in every community?

Actually it is a fad. It'll stop being a fad when charging stations in America, and most of the world, become as common as gas stations are today. When they're no longer a rich man's toy. When they become truly affordable for the masses, without the need for governments to subsidize their purchase by individual citizens. When they can be charged up at charging stations as quickly as it takes to re-fuel a gasoline powered vehicle. When their range on a full charge will go as far as a gasoline-powered counterpart. When their range doesn't drop like a boulder off a cliff when you're towing literally _anything_ behind it. And when a real solution is given to apartment dwellers (the vast majority of citizens in literally any nation on this planet) instead of telling them to buy houses so a personal charging station can be built into said house. Until ALL of those issues are properly fixed, EVs will continue to be a fad.

@@digitalfutur Early cars like the Model T had solid rubber tires. And were raised high above the ground. Look at old film reels from that era. That car had far more in common with modern-day SUVs designed to go off road than it does with your typical car. So honestly, the government didn't actually need to get involved. But people complained and paved roads were faster for the cars at that time. Now that I've addressed the one point you've brought up. Do you plan on addressing any of the valid points I originally brought up? Or are you hoping I just go away? Also, please don't try that lame debating tactic where you pretend that none of my points are valid. That doesn't actually work. Thank you.

@@tipit0086 Oh please. You seriously can't be THAT naive. Then again, in a world where the junk science of Climate Change has become a religion... Let me enlighten you. In the 1970s, The movement first started. But it's leaders and followers were screaming about the coming 2nd Ice Age if people didn't change their ways. Nope! Some of the hottest summers on record in America. So they went away, and the very same leaders returned in the 1990s. But screaming about "Global Warming." What happened? Some of the coldest winters on record! Oops! Now at this point, anyone with a working brain would say to themselves, _"Apparently I was wrong, and need to re-think my beliefs."_ Nope! Just change the vocabulary again, and call it "Climate Change." Now no matter what happens, they can pretend they were right all along. Isn't that lovely? Yeah... Doesn't work with someone who was alive during the 1970s and knows that the "Climate Change" movement is full of junk science. But you clearly buy into it. Guessing you were born several years after the 1970s. Sorry you got lied to, and brainwashed. Have a good one.
