This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV, subcompact electric crossover. Looking for a more affordable electric vehicle, take a look at the Chevrolet Bolt EUV!
The Chevy Bolt EUV has a 65 kWh battery with up to 397 km/247 miles of range. It has 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, FWD only.
What’s new for 2023? Chevrolet has added the Redline Edition available on both the Bolt LT and Premier models for $570 CAD/$495 USD. It has black exterior accents instead of chrome, red trim on the outside mirror caps, a unique 17” black wheel design with red accents, black and red Bolt EUV badging and red interior stitching. In the US, there has also been a price reduction of $6,300 on the Chevrolet Bolt which makes this a very affordable electric vehicle.
The Chevy Bolt EUV comes loaded with plenty of standard features including, a 10.2” touchscreen, 8” driver information display, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, heated steering wheel, heated cloth front seats, a power driver’s seat, manual passenger seat, 6-speaker audio system and Chevrolet Safety Assist.
In the US, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and a power driver’s seat are not standard features but available in a package.
The panoramic sunroof, Bose sound system, navigation and Super Cruise are available in packages and can be added to the Premier Bolt model only.
Chevrolet will cover standard installation of a level 2 charging outlet with the purchase or lease of a Bolt EUV.
This Chevy Bolt EUV comes with an 11.5 kW onboard charger. With a DC fast charger, the Bolt EUV can charge up to 154 km/95 miles of range in 30 minutes and with a Level 2 charger approximately 7 hours for a full charge.
In Canada, the Bolt EUV qualifies for the Federal rebate of $5,000 and any rebates in participating provinces. In the US, the 2023 Bolt qualifies for a tax credit.
The Chevrolet Bolt EUV starts at LT $43,147 CAD/$27,200 USD and the Premier is $46,647 CAD/$31,700 USD.

I own a 2023 Chevy bolt euv, I've had it for a few months now it has about 5K on it. So far I love the vehicle, it's just a wonderful little car. It drives very nice smooth, and it's very quick it's fun to drive. I've had no issues at all with it, I've been averaging 3.7 kilowatt-hours in Winter driving around 220 miles of range. The few month I had it in the summer it was actually really good I got about 5.3 kilowatts an hour about 300 miles of range. I charge it at home GM gave me $1,500 credit to have it level 2 installed in the house. If you're looking for affordable EV this should definitely be on your list, It's a terrific value.

Not sure why GM has no interest in reducing the price in Canada. It’s a bit of a slap in the face to Canadians.

One of the reasons why Chevrolet reduced the price in the US is because the Bolt no longer qualified for a tax credit. However, the new rules in place under the Biden administration, the 2023 Bolt now qualifies for a tax credit up to $7500. I wonder if Chevrolet will continue with this price point down the road now that it qualifies? In Canada, we have the $5,000 Federal rebate. It's a steal of a deal right now in the US, amazing price even the Premier model at just over $31,000 USD.

@@andreaspencer9813 not sure how dealers and manufacturers do their math. I just got a BZ4X LE and it turned out to be $100 a less a month on lease than a BOLT EUV. I think far too many people have expressed an opinion on the Bolt without have having actually been in a Chevy Bolt (actual seat time). Sadly, I feel confident in saying that this applies for most General Motors/Chevrolet/Buick/Cadillac products. It is refreshing to see an honest and fair review for not just this product, but generally for all the vehicles that you guys review. I’m typically impressed to see or listen to somebody’s actual realistic experiences, rather than shouting platitudes like the many sycophants who just want either the views, the attention or the free car. Thanks for keeping it real… and for the video.

Yup. We live in a large SUV and pickup truck world here in NA. No love for the small, practical and fun car. The same applied to the Smart ED and BMW i3. I had each one for 4 years, fantastic cars, mostly ridiculed. To be fair, these small cars are not great on freeways, so they're not for most people. They're niche vehicles, but great at what they do.

Exactly Daniel. Btw. I have been a huge fan of BMW’s i3. To me, it has always been a unique and logical approach (small motorcycle engine generated/backup hybrid) for a ‘city car’. Pricey… but VERY overlooked.

@@kellingtonlink956 I picked one up for an incredible price four years ago, it's worth almost the same now. It's incredibly frustrating that no other car companies took on this approach. The new Nissan X-Trail ePower does, and I would love to buy it except it's not for sale in North America. The upcoming Mazda CX-70 PHEV, similar to the CX-60 already available in Europe, has another very interesting drivetrain.
@kellingtonlink956

The Europeans have always been blessed with incredible power plant options. Diesels especially. Even the legendary E38 BMW 7-Series (and Mercedes-Benz) had an in-line with a manual, as well as diesel and even hybrid options (the F1s). And lest I mention the compact and subcompact options (VW Up! for example).

Zach nailed it, regarding price. As a whole, the car is a very good offering from GM. Decent power and features and seems to look good as well (in terms of quality of materials for the class, fit and finish and style). However, the price disparity between CAD and USD pricing makes it a tougher sell in Canada (it's $15k cheaper in the US, plus their rebates are larger). TFL recent bought a base Bolt and only paid $18k for it (MSRP minus rebates). The higher trim is only a few thousand dollars more, so you could likely buy the top trim for $25k or less. That's a bargain. This car isn't perfect (slower charging rate, FWD only, etc), but I still think it's a good option for people who mainly want a city runabout car and who charge it at home overnight (like most do anyway). It is likely the next generation of this (in a few years?) will move to a modified Altium platform which may address some of its mentioned shortcomings (charge time, AWD option, etc).

I agree. Great value currently... When I got my 2017, MSRP was like $37k, which I thought at the time was way too high. But there was something like $6K GM discounts. So that, combined with the US Federal tax rebate, brought it down to a reasonable price for me. I was glad that GM finally decided to drop the MSRP. For the current price, this is a great EV... I put over 100k miles on mine before the battery was replaced last year for the recall. I didn't have any noticeable (by me) battery degradation. Batteries being batteries, I know there was some loss, but it had to be minimal. So even if I hadn't had my battery replaced, I'd still be happy. And now with a new battery and new 8 year/100k battery warranty, I couldn't be happier. Yeah, the fast charging is slow. But as mentioned, this isn't a problem as I charge at home and this is mostly a commuter car. I always think the "what are you going to do when you have to replace your battery" comments as interesting. One, I'm not worried about it. They are proving to last a long time (at least liquid cooled batteries like the Bolt has. Yeah, I used to drive a Leaf and there are issues there). And two, you generally don't have people asking gas car buyers "what are you going to do when you have to replace your engine/transmission?" I mean, yeah, some people will eventually have to do that. 🙂 But you just don't generally ask people about that. 😀

We own the 2023 Bolt EUV Premiere Redline Edition with all options and picked it up Jan 2 here in the US! Actually had no choice as it was in transit and didn't want to order because the $7500 Fed Tax Credit might be halved in March due to the battery requirement of the Inflation Reduction Act. We use it locally and commuting finding charging at home overnight at level 1 at 12 amps is good enough. We are having the outlet for the level 2 charger installed which is being paid for by GM! YES!! 🎉 AND a charging cable is included for your Bolt EV/EUV. Imagine that. Buy a $60K Tesla Y and you can’t charge it at home unless you buy a $250 cable or have a charging station in your garage lolol. Crazy. Would you buy an expensive laptop with no charging cable? NO! But a $60K car… sure why not. Doesn’t make sense. Guess what, not everyone owns a perfect home with a garage or way to install a L2 charger &/or outlet. Slow trickle charging still works for many many people. Especially the people who probably are buying a “cheap” Bolt.

Zack, 9M (if you check GM's newer logo it looks like it) seems to be ready to offer all or at least most of their model names in BEV versions. If so, the 2G Bolt maybe rather sold as the Trailblazer EV (which would likely approximate today's Bolt size) unless Chevy moves a new Bolt elsewhere in the BEV lineup. And that's why you've replied me about the Bolt when I've commented on the Toyota bZ4x. Those 266 lb-ft of torque on the Bolt are really felt under Andrea's feet and it does feel snappy enough. cold temperature will decrease efficiency of battery, and increase wind resistance. cold temperature will also lower tire pressure, which you can pump to back it up. so cold temperature has other effects to shorten your range. for me, during the winter, between 20-40 degrees, i use about 10%-15% to heat. but the range efficiency would drop to about 3 miles per kwh. in the summer, it's about 4 - 4.5 miles per kwh. so the heater counter about 10% range lost or less. because in the summer you also need to turn the AC on.

The Bolt EV gets a little more range than the EUV, 417 km/259 miles. Chevrolet decided to drop the price in the US because the Bolt no longer qualified for a tax credit. Not sure if Chevrolet will make some adjustments in the future or leave the price the same now that it qualifies. It's an amazing deal right now!

Good review, except for her comment about the steering being 'very vague', and then wondering if changing the tires will be 'good enough'. She needed to push the button for 'sport' mode, which improves steering feel and pedal response considerably with no hit on driving range, based on my experience with a 2022 Bolt EUV premier. His comment about putting other tires is spot on - I replaced the stock tires with Michelin Cross-Climate 2 tires. The combination of these tires with sport mode results in a car with precise steering and handling. But even with the stock tires 'sport' mode improves steering feel. Overall, an excellent car, especially for the money.

With Chevy announcing the base price of the upcoming Equinox EV at $37,250 CAD, it's hard to recommend either Bolt model. After the $5k gov't contribution, you'll be able to get a decent EV crossover for the same price as a loaded Honda Civic. I think Chevy has a winner coming down the pipe with the Equinox, but they need to rethink the Bolt's price and positioning. They'll need to start under 30k for the non-EUV to see any traction (once the Equinox is available.)

I can’t really complain though as I got all weather mats, leather interior, safety upgrade and heated/ venting seats for $27k USD with my trade in. It’s well worth it for the gas savings alone. Great job as always! Sounds like a great second, runaround vehicle, especially for us seniors who usually stay close to home and shop locally. Does the vehicle feel small inside for the 2 of you, sitting side by side? Also, assuming that I charged it off of my 110 volt outlet in the garage, how long would a full charge take? Finally, in the long run, does it hurt an EV to not charge it to 100% often? I see me charging it on 110 volts and often not having sufficient time to charge to 100% before I am heading out again.
@andreaspencer9813
@andreaspencer9813 Жыл бұрын
We didn't find the vehicle tight at all, there was enough room for both of us and the back seat for legroom is very good. You don't need to charge the vehicle to 100% but with a level 1 charger, it could take up to 3 days to fully charge it if at 0%. If you are not using the full EV range daily and are just topping up, it won't take that long. I read on a forum that a 12 hour charge would give you about 77 km/48 miles so keep that in mind. Level 1 and Level 2 chargers are best for EVs, you should limit your time on a DC fast charger to protect the battery.

My Mom owns a Tucson PHEV and didn't install a level 2 charger, level 1 is just fine for her EV range.

My 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV Premier has front heated and ventilated seats, back heated seats, camera backview mirror, wireless phone charger, wireless Apple and Android connection, and all the safety features for the price tag of US $35k OTD. I didn't opt for super cruise, and sun-and-sound package, which could've given me hands-free driving on certain highways and updated audio system with dual sunroof. It gives me 300+ miles on full charge with mostly city driving where you can use regenerative braking more often. Interior is big with a lot of front and rear legroom, which is an advantage of EUV over Bolt EV. Cargo area is adequate for your everyday haul. GM paid for the level-2 charger installation at my home, which saved me a good amount of money. It qualifies for full $7500 tax credit, so, if I will meet the income requirement to take advantage of that, it will end up costing me US $27.5k OTD. Perhaps, the best EV you can get with a lot of passenger room, features, and great mileage for the money. GM's reliability is always questionable, so we will see how it will fare in the long run. So far with 2500 miles in 2 months, there has not been any issues but it is too early to judge the reliability of the car.

I guess it just comes down to preference.

After T price drops lol. Autopilot is what now, $12K!? That’s like 30% +/- of the Bolt EUV. SuperCruise is a few grand more. You get something to charge your EV with. Tesla is $250 to get a power cord. More to instal a charger. Rear seat pass. can adjust their own heated rear seat! I’ll take that over no air vents (btw- air vents on Tesla rear are like turbo jets and you can only change deflection, not fan speed or output in rear! Unless adjusting it for entire car) Btw- AWD is overrated, get good tires! If it snows 2’ you’re prob not going to work anyway so you’ll be fine when the roads are plowed. Even in Colorado!! Especially in CO! AWD in Tesla sucks because you still can’t stop (see above about regen braking adjustment) once you get going.
