Mark Stone's hat trick was the first Stanley Cup clinching hat trick in 101 years, the 1922 St. Pats were the last team to do that where one of their players scored 4 in the clinching game.

I know that I'm going to read a lot of jokes about the long 6 year cup drought, but I'd like to offer my Vegas perspective. My family has been in Nevada since before Las Vegas even existed. I was 5 years old when UNLV won the NCAA championship. I barely remember anything from that time. The first professional sporting event I attended was the Las Vegas Thunder as a 7 year old. I learned from an early age that people did not view Las Vegas as a real city. It's a vacation spot, a place you can treat like a theme park. It was many things, but not a place where real people live and definitely not a place people are from. Las Vegas was also not a city that sports leagues liked to acknowledge. That we were built on gambling made us a taboo for sports. Vegas is such a wonderful town, full of really friendly, welcoming people. It's funny to say in a city of nearly 3 million, but if you've lived here long enough it really has a small town feel. A camaraderie that comes from growing up in such a unique place. I've felt the struggle of identifying with this town and its people, but receiving nothing but misunderstanding and judgement. For me, this cup win was such catharsis. Validation for all the bullshit that people say, and the way they treat our city. When that clock hit zero tonight, I openly wept. I had been running a bar with at least 200 other fans of my team and city in attendance, and I wept with that incredible release of emotion. We may have only been in the NHL for 6 years, but this city has been yearning for community and a shared identity for a whole lot longer than that. So if you think this fanbase hasn't earned what we were blessed with tonight, please let my words show otherwise. Go Knights Go!

something about that 2017 first year that means a lot to me is just before the season started, Vegas had that awful shooting. The Knights magical run, hell just seeing them play, really helped us heal as a city & community. So seeing them win the cup this year after helping my home city heal just means a lot to me. I know lots of teams have waited many more years for the cup than us, but after all they did in 2017 to help our city come together after tragedy, I personally think they deserve it

Vegas' problem their first year was how Fleury kept his style the exact same for the whole year including the playoffs. His type of aggressive play works until you run into a team that abuses cross ice passes like mad which happened in the final since Ovi just plants in his spot.

That's a cool story. Hill wasn't much better than average for the last 7 years. And he didn't really do anything spectacular as a third string this regular season. You'd think that Vegas was the team getting outshot 2-1 and that their defense was the one playing like crap, but their defense against Florida limited shots and blocked more than he faced in 4 of the 5 games. Guess which ones Vegas won.

I love how your sarcasm blends with ironic anger. As a Ranger fan I CONCUR!!! This team, this season was magical. For hockey conspiracy theorist’s, MAYBE it was a “fix” bcuz the NHL’s motto this year WAS “The Golden Era”!!! Just saying……I CAN sub to your channel bcuz your a Leaf’s fan & they’re original 6!!! I’m looking forward to a new season where we’ll hoist a WCF Championship banner & our 1st Stanley Cup Championship banner. It’s Reilly Smith that got the GWG bcuz he scored the 4th goal in a 3-9 win. Sadly he won’t be there to enjoy the moment bcuz he was sent the the Penguins a week later. I’m as angry as my friend with the Fleury trade!!! About player’s height. Look for the “Comprehensive Cancer” commercial with Alex Tuch!!!! Just do it, trust me!!!! Looking forward to a new season. I think the 2022-2023 playoff’s were remarkable. So many game’s, so much talent & luck!!! Every series had a hook. Good luck to the Leaf’s this year. They might make it to Conference finals this year. Maybe….you never know

I'll join in on the absurd facts about this cartoony season. The Vegas Golden Knights finished 5th in the league at the end of the regular season. With 16 wins in the playoffs that put them at 67 total wins between the regular season and playoffs. Boston, who was knocked out in the first round, finished with 68 wins between the regular season and the playoffs. Absolutely goofy things happened this year and this stat just solidifies that silliness. Honestly might be one of the craziest and most memorable years in NHL history.

Not goofy. How often has the President's Trophy winner won the Stanley Cup? I think only once. Fifth in league? That's pretty high.
@dubiousjustin8706

You're right on that. I was more trying to emphasize that so many stats and situations this year come across as things you see when playing Chel on rookie. Boston's insane regular season. McDavid's crazy regular season as well. Draisaitl being tied for most playoff goals with two less rounds of games. Florida's amazing Stanley cup run as an 8 seed. Stuff like this is why I said this season was goofy.

That no fear element you talked about........ yeah, no one in the Leafs has that. I've been a lifelong Leafs fan, but I'm starting to feel like their core players are more interested in a payday than winning a cup. That being said, congrats to Vegas. I was there 2 weeks ago and it is very much a hockey city.

I grew up in Vegas in the early 2000s, moved to Chicago ~05 and barely knew what sports were lol. Got barraged by the Cubs/Sox/Blackhawks/Bears/Bulls and nothing really did it for me until I was in college and VGK came on the scene... after being so close in the first season, they finally UKnighted the Realm. My heart is so happy :)

Vegas kept getting better after each series. They played a total 200ft 5v5 with drive and attention to detail. Yzerman, Crosby, Toews, are great not just because of raw talent, but because they played a total game with a focus on what in the moment was needed to win. Vegas as a team bought into that…They played Canadian work boot playoff hockey perfectly.

"miraculous, not because they are superhuman, but because they are human" made me emotional. what an amazing sport, what amazing athletes, and what an amazing conclusion to an amazing season. I know the general hatred of vegas is only gonna get worse from here on out, but ultimately I know it comes from a deep love of Their team, because that's how I've felt about the sharks or the stars in the past. we just all really love the sport and the guys in it, and (if only for today) that makes me happy. thanks for the fun 22-23 season 💛🖤❤️

The Florida Panthers run reminds me a bit of the Minnesota North Stars run in 1991. They were one of the lowest seeded teams. They then beat both the number one and number two teams, and then the defending Stanley cup champions to meet Pittsburgh in the Stanley cup final . They were competitive at first. Like Florida, in the second last game , they overcome a big deficit to make the game close but ultimately lost. Then in the first potential cup winning game, it was like the glass slipper fell off, and they lost 8-0.

question for Steve and everyone else here about the physicality and aggression in this series: do you see Mitch Marner surviving and being effective in such a series? i dont and thats why i want him traded as long as his value is high. Steve is right, its not only about being tall and tough. but skills without one of the other things doesnt cut it either.

Vegas: 6 seasons, 2 Stanley Cup finals, 1 Stanley Cup, 12 playoff rounds won👍 Toronto: Last Stanley Cup finals in 1967 (57 years ago) when there were still only 6 teams and only 4 teams made the playoffs (2 rounds). Last Stanley Cup won in 1967 ( 57 years ago, but I guess we can brag that the last time we were in the finals, we won).😭 12 playoff rounds won from 1992/93 to 2022/23 (30 seasons)😭😭 Congrats to Vegas.😁 Will they win a second before the Leafs end their drought? I've lived in Vegas almost the entire 40 years I've been on this planet. I have been a Red Wings fan since the early 90s. Hockey is my favorite sport. When there were rumblings that Vegas might get a team, I knew I had to put down my deposit for tickets, along with some buddies. I wanted to see my Wings in person at least once a season and cheer for a brand new, local, probably bad team along the way. It has been 15 years since the Wings last won the Cup. I am beyond ecstatic. I have earned to go to a championship parade my entire life, now I get that chance. Hang in there Dangle, it'll happen
