The 2023 Ford Everest large SUV is a very popular 4WD, with the release of its second-generation model creating plenty of excitement thanks to its introduction of a turbo-diesel V6 engine option.
The 3.0-litre unit has 184kW of power and a whopping 600Nm of torque, putting it streets ahead of the rivalling Isuzu MU-X, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Toyota Fortuner on paper, with that trio making do with four-cylinder grunt.
But in this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Marcus Craft puts the Everest V6's Sport variant through its paces off-road, to see if it's more than just a set of impressive numbers. After all, a longer wheelbase than its predecessor doesn't bode well for its 4x4 abilities.

Why compare against the MUx isn’t the Everest closer to the 300 series Landcrusier in size? I don’t think I’ve ever heard a reporter say that the Landcrusier is handy capped by its dimensions. All I hear is a reporters bias against the Everest when compared to the similar sized Landcrusier. Then you have the significant price difference between the Landcruiser and the Everest. This would indicate that the Everest is a better choice between those two vehicles.

The comparison seems to be based on them being UTE-based wagons.

What is the turning circle like? I know a Prado turns so much better than a Hilux. Does it struggle because it's based on the Ranger platform?

We just got ours. It is nice just a bit bouncy tires a quite large. We had a territory before this. We realised the inside in the everest isn't as wide. Passenger and driver are more closer(less distance between) Definately consider different options first. Not cheap. I think model has emphasis more on height. Wish we got a Jeep Cherokee.

Will you be conducting a towing test? I'd love to see how you go with say, a 2.5t ATM caravan, how you set up the Everest, if it needs weight distribution hitches, revised suspension or whatever, to tow it safely. I'm in the market to replace my 2020 Ford Ranger 3.2 Wildtrak. I've love the Everest Sport with 18" wheels, but my son-in-law tows our old van with his 2015 Everest and it needs a WDH, otherwise the arse drags on the ground, it pitches badly and steering is too vague. I towed that van (he bought it off us) with the Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 V6 and it needed the WDH for the same reasons. However, the Ranger is fine towing without one. So, it's a toss-up between the Ranger V6 and the Everest V6.

So it's hamstrung by its dimensions and needs 18 inch wheels and tyres? I think I got that the first time but just to be sure, does it need 18 inch wheels and tyres and is it hamstrung by its dimensions? I'm not sure if I got it the 6th time.

Is there any advantage keeping the 20 inch tyre package as we would not be going off road.
@brisal88
@brisal88 8 ай бұрын
Yes 20inch is best for city and highway driving. Just not good for off roading as there is no clearance sidewall to deflate the tires and not enough clearance for the diff. If you are not off roading, keep the 20s.

Sport owner of three weeks (Demo with 3,500ks) Haven’t taken it off road as yet. The claimed fuel figures are not achievable, Ford must have driven this vehicle on a decline with a tail wind. Another gripe is the speakers, totally woeful for a 70k plus car.

@@smaldo19 how do you go with setting up the Everest to tow? Does it need a weight distribution hitch? Son-in-law's '15 Everest does. Too unstable without it.
@smaldo19
@smaldo19 Жыл бұрын
@Marts Tee didn't have to change anything and it tows well. About 190-200kg on the ball and not much weight in the back. Much more and I think you'll need different springs. Recon if you need a weight distribution hitch you've got other issues going on.

Anyone serious about off roading in any brand of vehicle would likely get custom wheel and tires so to constantly detract points for wheels and tires is very short sighted as it is not marketed purely for off road bashing. It is sold to families primarily.

Thats because the Ranger is classified as a Light Duty Truck and the Everest a Passenger Vehicle. Emissions Regulations differ which drives the need for Adblue.

Sounds like official fuel figures are complete B/S. People i know who have one confirm this. Would rather my 2022 Fortuner, sensible screen size. Good wheelbase dimensions. Plenty of power at 150 kw and 500nm with currently 8.6l per 100, diff lock in rear, good traction control and 17 inch rims to air down and bag out when needed. 5:14
