2023 Genesis GV60 | MotorWeek Road Test

Genesis’ first foray into the world of battery electric vehicles was a modified version of their G80 sedan; and while it was a fantastic effort, getting the full benefits of an EV requires a dedicated EV chassis. Beautiful vehicle! Interior is also done very well. The only gotcha is the price. Performance starts at68,985! Who is the car for? In fact, most EVs seem to be priced extremely high. I wish the pricing on EVs that look nice (like this vehicle) didn't start at such a high price point. At nearly 70 grand, there are several premium gas cars you can purchase that are also fun to drive. Even if you factor in getting a tax credit, this vehicle is very expensive. Oh well. I'll be stuck with the combustion engine vehicles as long as car makers price their EV vehicles as if every car buyer is rocking a six figure salary.

Fun fact: Hagerty pitted this thing against a Model Y Performance in a drag race and the GV60 won by a full car length.

Beautiful car, and so glad that Genesis brought back the $7500 Fed. T/C for this car so far (due to the fact that it will be made in Korea). The styling on the car is so handsome and attractive because I saw more than one of these on the road, and it's so eye-catching to look at.

Why do you Americans NOT have the camera side "mirrors" like we do here in Australia, or Europe or Asia ? These electronic side video screen mirrors are brilliant in low light or in wet weather , give the best blind spot coverage and of course, minimise the wind noise due to its much smaller size. Why don't American models offer this great feature ? ( Is it because you still haven't embraced the metric system ? )

Definitely not a looker and overwrought when compared to its stately siblings (GV70, GV80). I guess they had limitations with the design given that it's based on the Ioniq 5. Thankfully, it's got all the right components underneath. It's RWD based and it accelerates like a true performance EV. Kudos for that!

I really like this car. But two things that bothers me: The front head lights and tail lights are awesome. I love the simplistic two bars. However, the front grill is "Prius hideous". It's ooogly. It's terrible. The other thing that bothers me is how low the range is. If you're charging north of $60G, you can't have range of 240. That's not acceptable. It' should be 330 minimum. Because in northern states where it's cold, you lose 20-25 percent of that range right off the bat.

Plant based leather? My car has plant based leather by way of grass fed cows. 259 miles on a charge? How long does it take to charge to 100%? My car can go 500 miles on a tank of gas and takes five minutes to refill. Electric car batteries are made from finite, non-renewable materials that get thrown into landfills when they no longer work. How green is that?

Range somewhat comparable to internal combustion engines (ICEs) is meaningless if the "refuel" time is also not on par with said ICEs'. When traveling, nobody wants their refuel times to require, at minimum, 45-90 minute turnaround times!

True, having to wait a little while for the 5% of times (or less) I have to charge when travelling can be a nuisance. On the other hand, the 95% of times (or more) I charge at home saves me a huge amount of time against going out of my way to a service station, waiting for an open pump, standing there while it fills, heading inside to pay, then having to get back on the crazy busy rush hour road. All in all, charging rather than fuelling is a net time saver.
