It's all about comfort and space for me. The ioniq 5 cabin really impressed me when i was comparing the cars, it's the main reason i decided on Hyundai. I've loved the ioniq 5, been about 3 months now.

A Kia dealer told me that the snazzier colored EV6’s on his lot sold a lot slower than the blacks, grays and silvers. At least in Madison WI, might be different elsewhere. I would def pick the red or Yacht Blue! Beautiful in my eyes.

@@tymonster183 Yeah, I love that teal too. It's gorgeous and modern. I got my EV6 in gravity blue and love that one too. They're kind of aimed at different customers and their color options fit them.

I picked the EV6 GT-line for a few reasons (some of these are specific to Australia). First, in Australia the Ioniq 5 is (or was, it may have changed by now) only available via online ordering, so it's like trying to buy Taylor Swift tickets. You have to wait online for a batch of cars to be released for sale, then quickly complete your order before they sell out. I couldn't even get a test drive. My EV6 I just walked into the dealer, took a test drive, and placed an order. Next is range, the lower, more slippery, EV6 also had a slightly bigger battery (I think the I5 has been updated since then) which gives an extra 50 or so km range, which I've used a few times. I'm currently on a 5000+ km road trip and I've had one leg where an I5 may not have made it. The Australian EV6 got a custom local suspension tune, optimised for Australian roads. Impressive investment from Kia given the first year allocation was only 500 cars. The I5 got the softer setup from Korea/NA that can be underdamped and flustered by rough Australian roads. The EV6 tune keeps the car well planted in the hills above Adelaide, offering good body control while remaining comfortable. The I5 interior is definitely more spacious, but when I sat in one, I wasn't impressed with some of the finishes and I didn't like the gear selector. While I completely understand your comments on Piano Black, the white interior on the I5 would have also been and issue with kids and a wife who likes to spill coffee. I found I prefer the cosier feel of the EV6 and the console feels like it belongs on the Enterprise. The I5 glass roof can also be a bit oppressive in an Aussie summer. Note, the EV6 GT-line does have the premium relaxation seats that recline way back, just without the thigh cushion. I think the sport seats in the GT should have been optional as they are a frequent point of contention. The GT-line seats may not be as bolstered, but they still grip pretty well because of their faux-suede surface. The I5 is better for space as well, but not by enough to sway my preference. The EV6 still offers more than enough space for a family of four, a week's worth of luggage, and a spare wheel. Finally for exterior style, I actually prefer the I5, especiallyin Digital Teal. But still really like the EV6. I just wish the Australian market got some of the more interesting colours like Green or Gravity Blue. When The dealer asked for my colour choice (the website hadn't been updated yet) my first 3 choices were all rejected. We ended up with Yacht Blue. My wife, on the other hand, doesn't like the I5 style and rejected it as an option based on that alone. Odd, I thought, as she usually prefers SUVs. In the end, they are both brilliant cars, and I can't fault anyone for preferring the I5. It's just great a platform with so many core strengths can produce such a diverse range of options.

Good comments and reflect my NZ experience. My EV6 is crazy good and better bang for a buck than the Ionic5

I'll second that these also reflect my own experience as a used buyer cross-shopping offerings for the Ioniq 5 Limited and EV6 GT-Line in the NZ market. The Ioniq 5 has some great initial plusses that make it a tempting purchase before you factor in some niceties to the EV6 that are particular to the Aus/NZ market: For the styling I'm a bit up and down on the design of the Ioniq 5. I'm less in love with the retrofuturistic style than most, but I certainly don't dislike it. With the EV6 I do very much like the slightly sportier build and the more visually coupe back half. I'm also an absolute sucker for its spoiler and tail light design, but I think that it's definitely not a looker from every angle. There are some perspectives where the overall shape just looks a bit odd and unseemly - mostly the front 1/4 and 3/4 angles where the curve of the bonnet combined with the rest of the car makes for a particularly unflattering silhouette. The Ioniq 5 being a touch wider in the body but a hair slimmer when including mirrors is great, as it means more of the overall width is being spent on useful space. To juxtapose, the EV6's mirrors are more like the car equivalent of clown shoes and make me anxious even backing into my garage for a fitment check. The shorter length of the I5 also makes it an easier fit with city driving and parking, as well as home garaging in contemporary buildings with slightly smaller garage spaces. The raised seating and cabin roof makes for easier vehicle access, and the SIGNIFICANTLY better overall visibility drastically increases my confidence navigating while driving - especially in tighter spaces. Interior comfort is much higher to start with, with noticeably more leg and shoulder space to work with and more versatile options for setting up your driving position to be exactly how you like it. There's also the strong impression that the white leather seats will wear noticeably better than the synthetic suede + synthetic leather seats in the EV6. Even looking at one well-maintained dealer demo EV6 I was considering, I could spot some noticeable discolouration on the faux leather trimming in the crevice of the seat - nevermind concerns about the longevity of the synthetic materials and the stitching. I respect not wanting to deal with the sun roof, but for NZ's more temperate climate it's quite agreeable. I'm also a fan of the design being two shade rollers that extend from either end and meet in the middle, as most other vehicles with a single shade runner end up with the shade itself being noticeably slack in the middle of the cabin. Where the Ioniq 5 starts to fall short for me is in the sound department, whether it's the 6 speaker default or 8 speaker Bose system, which only sounds marginally better to my ear than the 8 speaker JBL system in my current Kia Niro. The 14 speaker Meridian system in the EV6 sounds significantly better in all areas, especially with the improved utilisation of the subwoofer once all the service campaigns have been implemented and the infotainment system has been updated to at least October 2023 release. And then there's the places where the Kia just cleans house with the Ioniq 5. There's the local suspension tuning that makes the vehicle a joy to chuck through some twisty country road corners, there's the improved range from the better aerodynamics, and there's also the ZF-tuned frequency selective dampers that are VERY difficult to find information on, but what there is indicates that they have indeed been particular to the Aus/NZ models thus far and are only coming to all global models with the recently announced facelift. Even though I've spent a lot more words here lavishing praise on the Ioniq 5, most of what I have to praise it on are, frankly, petty luxuries. At least in the calculus for my purchase, they're heavily outweighed by the extra range, the better handling for Australian and New Zealand roads, and overwhelmingly outweighed by the frequency selective dampers which help fight the outrageous road noise we face from our abysmal coarse chip road surfaces. The war against road noise is a constant fight in both countries because of our crappy country roads, so that in and of itself is a massive, unbelievable value add that makes the Ioniq 5 basically a non-starter in comparison.

When we sat in the IONIQ 6 immediately after getting out of an IONIQ 5: it only took a few seconds before my wife made up her mind, and had to have the spacious luxurious openness of the IONIQ 5 over the 6. I’m sure this EV6 would’ve carried that same cockpit closed in tightknit feel that some may prefer. We love our IONIQ 5 and I would argue the new in 2023 Gravity Gold Matte is a nicer color than any of the others that are available in 2022/2023. Unlike the EV6, the IONIQ 6 has a lot less head room so if you’re considering either go sit in them to start narrowing your choices down which will happen quickly if you or your passengers are over 6’. 👍🏼 22:12

We are 3 months in with our 2023 Ioniq 5 SEL and are loving it. When we test drove it back in April, the sales person got out of the car for a moment and my wife turned to me in wonder and said: "Arnie, I love this car!!" I totally agree with your comparison points. We have no regrets. Also as an aside, we are still producing more electricity from our home's solar array than we use even after adding charging of the car to the load. We live in a small town in the PNW far from interstates. So even when we go to the big city, (Seattle) we rarely exceed 65 MPH as we are mostly on 2 lane roads. As a result we have been averaging 3.8 KWH/Mi for about 270 range after our first 2,500 miles. Very, Very happy with those numbers!

I think you're a fan of the Ioniq5 and nothing will change your mind. Your opinions actually made up my mind to pick the 5 as well. Both are fantastic with a few flaws, like no rear window wiper, poor placement of the USB slots, no wireless Car Play or Auto, and the RWD is pretty sluggish. Hyundai has been hitting it out of the park lately. I hope Hyundai adopts the Tesla plug and gets into the Supercharger network as GM, Volvo, Ford, and other are in the process of doing. I do prefer the exterior styling of the 6; it looks like a Macan from the rear. The 5 reminds me of a stretched VW Golf.

Wow...great comparison! We just took delivery of our Ioniq5 Ultimate AWD about a week ago and have piled on 1700 km! We traded in our 2023 Kona Ultimate EV in Phantom Black...we did 48,000 km in the Kona in 10 months...loved that car...0 issues except size was pretty cramped for our road trips. The charging speed between the 2 is amazing! We had ordered a Runway Red EV6 last December but this Ioniq5 was unspoken for at our dealer (dropped off the day before we saw it and bought it) and we jumped at it. No regrets what an absolutely fantastic car! Your comparison was very well done...Thank you! Mike

I think the EV6 is far more futuristic looking than the Ioniq 5. The EV6 was even featured in an episode of Black Mirror. I'm not really a fan of the retro look of the I5, but to each their own. The interior arm rests on the EV6 aren't that comfortable. You should feel the center armrest with a short sleeve shirt, the material is quite rough.

Hello Corbin, I have a 2023 Ioniq 5 (Canadian model) ultimate (no sun roof) up here the sunroof is a $6,000 upgrade. We love ours, the learning curve is very big. Watching your Chanel has helped understanding most of the cars features. I had one problem which I think I have solved my wife and I went for lunch at a local pub, parked outside near a concrete wall in front of the car (outside temp was 35 deg) we were about 2hr when we came out and got in the car. As you can imagine car was hot, set inside temp to 29 deg however the air conditioning did not come on.. the fan was only blowing hot air the drive home was about 1hr. Parked the car in our air conditioned garage. I stayed in the car and waited about 15min. And the air temp from the fan started to cool fairly quick . What I deduced was that the cooling was cooling the battery until the air intake was cooled down enough that the battery would be getting cooler. Sound about right. If you can give me your thoughts on the matter I would welcome them. Thanks for your time Ken Cury

I like both, but the slightly longer range of the Kia EV6 RWD Wind getting 310 miles of range it what convinced me to get that one and it was the only one the dealer had at the time in April 2022. The Hyundai dealer said that Hyundai is not making any Limited Edition Ioniq 5 in RWD with 303 mile range, so that was that. The Kia is actually giving us close to 310 miles of range in the real world. And I love that wrap around display.

I own the top-of-the-line 2022 Canadian version of the LR, AWD Ioniq 5. Previous vehicle was the 2020 Kona EV (traded in). I actually use the comfort seats while on car ferries and waiting for them to arrive. Had the EV6 been available at the time, I would've seriously looked at it (liked the design and features). But the Ioniq 5 is my definite preference; comfortable, fast, good efficiency (now that it has battery preconditioning). Hands free is good but not like Tesla ... not even close but seems better than Ford or GM's subscription hands-free modes (just say no to subscriptions - they'll get the message). Good comparison Corbin!

The cars are so similar that IMHO the main differentiating factors really come down to the three you mentioned: looks; ride; and cabin. I agree with you that the Ioniq 5 looks better, and for the exact reasons you'd mentioned. Love the square-pixel design elements. But my spouse has the exact opposite feeling, and since the car is primarily for their driving, we got the EV6 GT-Line instead of the Ioniq 5. In that gorgeous red, of course. :) Though, we would've wound up with the EV6 anyway, because both of us prefer the ride and cabin better on the EV6. You're exactly right about the differences. The Ioniq 5 has a more open cabin. To me, it feels closer to a mini-van feel. Not as big obviously, but it's a more upright sitting position, with more open air around the driver's seat. But that's why I like the EV6. The more reclined position, with a more wrap-around feel, gives me more of a feeling of being connected to the car, instead of riding on top of it like it was a horse. And while the suspension differences are subtle, they are definitely there, and I really like the slightly more solid/responsive feel of the EV6. It still soaks up bumps in the road without any trouble, but has better feedback and immediacy to the driving input. I do have some quibbles with a few other things you mentioned: While the Meridian system has potential, I really _hate_ how they've set it up. With the default settings, the rear door speakers (all four of them) contribute very little to the sound. There's a _huge_ difference in volume if you fade the speaker balance 100% forward vs 100% rearward. At a normal listening volume level, fading all the way to the rear reduces the overall volume to almost nothing. The system should be designed so that you can fade the audio without needing to also adjust the master volume, but with the Meridian system, very large changes to the master volume are needed as the balance is changed. Similarly, almost no bass is sent to the rear door speakers. I've been able to improve the situation by keeping the balance faded toward the rear about halfway (4 or 5 on the scale of 10), and then increasing the master volume back to something listenable. But for the system to be so forward-biased by default is just silly. It's ironic that the GT model you drove uses regular buttons for the seat and steering wheel heater controls, because at least on the GT-Line, these are just touch buttons, and they are even easier to accidentally activate than the physical buttons you saw are. I thought I was going to hate the buttons in our car, but fortunately after awhile you get used to the issue, and using the area of the console just aft of the buttons as a wrist or thumb support to steady your hand to operate the climate/media touch panel works extremely well for me. As for those little wings over the C pillar, I can see why some might find them overly "busy" from an aesthetic point of view (I like the way they look, personally), but they add another nice feature to the EV6, which is that underneath the wings are nice bright lamps that come on when the doors are unlocked/opened. At night, this adds some very useful illumination to the ground around the rear of the car.

The EV6 GT was the first EV I test drove when I was trying to decide which one to buy (just a few weeks ago). I was instantly drawn to the looks and the sporty nature of the car. The first thing the sales guy had me do was to sit in the back seat to show off how much leg room the back area has. I'm 6' 1" and while trying to get in the car I whacked my head on the sloping roof line so hard I was seeing stars. The salesman apologized for not warning me about the low roof height and after regaining my composure I got in the driver seat (very carefully) to drive the car. I lowered the seat as far as it could go and still felt like I was looking out the very top portion of the windshield. I had to recline the seat a good ways to compensate for the lacking headroom. I will say that the car was a hoot to drive with 600 HP but in the end I felt that it was a poor choice for my tall torso. I then considered Tesla, Nissan Ariya, Ford Mach-e, VW ID4, Ioniq 6 and finally the winner, the Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 fit me like a glove in every way and I find it extremely comfortable and fun to drive! Very happy with my choice!! Thank you for making these informative videos to help us decide!!

I've owned both. Both are/were 2023 versions. I bought the Ioniq 5 in June had it totaled early August. I ended up buying the EV6 Limited Edition (dark forest green with dark tan seats), which is a cross between the GT Line and the Wind and has every option that both trims offer. I like the exterior looks of the Ioniq 5 (mine was matte dark gray) a bit better, but I love the interior of the EV6 as it has a much better "car" feel and much better storage space in the front seat area. To me the openness and spaciousness (living room feel) of the Ioniq 5 wears think and actually seems far less "luxurious" and just down right spartan. I also like the way the EV6 handles as it's a touch firmer and thus a lot more stable handling. And the sound system is much, much better. Both are great cars and it's a tough choice to make. I suggest much more than just a casual test drive in both before you decide, as I obviously picked the wrong version the first time. Also, make sure you drive both the AWD and RWD versions as there is a huge difference in acceleration and handling. The only slight problem I have with this review is comparing an EV6 GT to any other is not realistic as the GT is literally speed and handling enthusiast's car not meant for families or as an every day driver.

Great video showing the similarities and differences, but a couple minor comments when comparing the Wind to the SEL. The Wind door handles do not present themselves and no interior ambient lights. You get both when you move to the GT line. Also, as you’ve stated in the past the SEL does not get the v2l interior outlet, memory seats and ventilated seats like the Wind.

One thing that might throw the backseat measurement off is that the EV6 GT has different seats than the normal one - ones that don't have cooled seats as an option. Something to think about if you get into a EV6 non-GT. Also, I think Kia/Hyundai is allergic to "pause" buttons. Neither car has one. Why either has a power button at all is beyond me. It clearly doesn't need it, since the remote start bypasses it entirely.

EV6 Wind does not actually present door handles, and it's hard to lock and unlock without reaching for the key fob. Annoying. On the plus side, the shape of the key fob is great because you can VERY EASILY find the lock and unlock buttons by feel -- ie -- in your pocket.

Do you like the quietness of the car or would you prefer it was you know somehow making acceleration noises and decel and all that??? Also are you aware of anything sold in the USA that actually works to do that like aftermarket wise I haven't found anything on KZbin for the ioniq 5 I found for Teslas!!! 😢😢😢😢😢 been meaning to ask I watch your videos all the time im in central Florida and bought my Abyss Black long range 23' SEL RWD on 12/31 got an insaneeeee DEAL!!!

EV6 NA Limited Edition because as nice as Digital Teal is, that Dark Forest Green is just to die for! Also while the I5 had a $3000 dealer-greed-tax, said green EV6 had a $7000 dealer discount, so effectively worked out to $10k less for the same car in a better color. . . :D

I will mention, having owned RWD and AWD of both cars, the regen modulation is much more linear with the Ioniq 5. Level 3 vs level 4 is much less received in the EV6 and a big jump to level 2 (where it feels similar to the Ioniq 5 for 2, 1, and 0) vs much more linear steps down each of the levels

Are the seats in the EV6 better on lower trim levels for people with large butts? I am really hating bucket seats lately. They are torture if you have sciatic nerve pain in your hips or a large butt in general. Is the Ionic 5 seats any better? I wouldn’t get the ev6 GT anyways as I would much rather have the range over the torque. Same with the Ionic 5. It’s cool that they came out with an N version (LOL) but I’m not drag racing EVs. I need range. Another 50 miles is worth not going 0-60 just 2 seconds faster.

I really can't comment on EV6 as the GT is the only version I've ever been in. Ioniq 5 seats are a little bucket like but much better than EV6 GT. I am definitely on the verge of being uncomfortable in the Ioniq 5 seats if I were any bigger

How easy/hard is it to keep your ioniq light interior clean and good looking? I like how it looks but concerned that the high traffic items get dirty quickly (e.g. steering wheel, seats)
@TheIoniqGuy
@TheIoniqGuy Жыл бұрын
It stays surprisingly clean but that’s probably more dependent on lifestyle than materials. I don’t think I’ve washed my steering wheel since the spring and it looks and feels great. Seats don’t really experience blue jean transfer but that’s dependent on the jeans you wear as some have more dye in them than others. They wash easily with a cloth and some mild cleaner

All the Piano black is why I didn't go for EV6... Not really, I did pick up an Ioniq 5 due to larger cargo room, better rear seat (have elderly parents and job that requires me to take packages to UPS/USPS often) so, Ioniq 5 was my choice in Lucid blue, but I wish I would have gone with the Black EV6 GT-Line I was eyeing... Will likely wait for MY 2025 EV6 (my Ioniq Lease ended July, so, I"m just biding my time with my hybrid van). So, Yeah, I should've pick up EV9 Land trim, but am waiting for EV6 instead. (If I can convince van driver to get EV, I'll get EV9 as well?)

note: regarding the IONIQ 5 if you live in the Southwest especially, (hell anywhere it's muggy or hot in the summer, have you ever had small kids go nuts and complain about how hot the car is in the back seat !!!!) Damn it, for this price, you should expect rear AC vents for passengers. Extreme climate is getting worst , your passengers will burn up sitting back there without rear AC, this is a dealbreaker for me now, :

I test drove the ioniq 5. Thought it was very uncomfortable. The suspension sucks and it felt like i was driving a poorly suspended small hatchback. Also theres is alot of useless space in the front, making the boot too small for my taste. Which is a shame cuz i rlly like the look of the Ioniq 5. I went for the Skoda Enyaq instead and couldnt be happier.

Ioniq. Even just the view out of the tiny rear window vs the sensible rear window, yup would rather have the space and air of the Ioniq. However because NEITHER has availability, and BOTH have a 2yr waitlist, I will probably end up going for the Vinfast VF8 instead. Weighing the pros and cons... Base model costs a bit more, slower DCFC, but AWD in base trim, THE best warranty in the business, "Hey Vinfast" voice control, REAR WIPER FFS, and best of all "almost no waitlist", I suspect that's my next car. 🙂

Frustrating how some US dealers are having slow moving inventory building up but other markets are starved for inventory with 18 month wait lists. Telsa seems to be one of the few focused on taking care of as many markets as possible with short wait times. 2024 I5 has a rear camera mirror instead of a wiper... I'm sure when your rear window gets dirty the rear camera will be clean in winter.....

We tried the EV6, but with the sunroof it has a laughable amount of headroom. I legitimately could not fit into the car even with the driver seat all the way down, my head was still bent sideways just to "sit" in it. No idea who decided on the umpa-lumpa driver seat room. Also the rear seats in the EV6 feel like you're sitting just a couple of inches off the ground, again no idea who decided to have you basically squat the whole time.

I think the color palette sucks on the Hyundai's side. They are pushing the matte finishes too hard. I personally hate matte finishes because you can't put it through a car wash. I also prefer the EV6 layout a little more it's more driver focus. The Hyundai feels like it's trying to be a Tesla model 3 it's a little too utilitarian for me. I think Kia has a better model lineup with the options. Even though when I bought the EV6 it was a few grand more than the ionic 5. I personally think Hyundai and Kia blew it with the sunroof situation. It should have been a panoramic glass roof that open on both models. I give KIA props for the suede like material I also give a ding for the piano black being such a fingerprint magnet. At the end of the day is just a matter of preference would you rather drive they both the same under the skin.

I am a 2023 EV6 owner. I have found out that there is no middle ground with the opinions of the EV6 and the Ionic 5. You love one but not the other. Kind of like coke and pepsi. For me the main reason people gravitate to the Ionic 5 is the same reason I am not gravitated to it. The styling. The styling was just not for me. You give a lot of pros and cons to each model. It is just a matter of what fits for the individual and you made those points very well and appreciate that. It is too bad though that you didn't have access to the GT Line or the Wind to compare the ride.
